Disappointing...

I booked what was described as a 'luxury suite double room' at Dylan Apartments but I'm afraid the Earl Court lodgings I stayed in really don't live up to this billing.
Upon entering, the lobby area is perfectly adequate but I was quickly put off by a pretty unpleasant smell in the lift and the main stairway. The decor and paintwork in the corridors also left much to be desired.
Furthermore, in booking a double room I had anticipated a double bed (as was promised on the booking confirmation) but had been given a room with 2 single beds instead. As I was on my own I didn't make a big fuss over it though. The room was on the smaller side but not horribly cramped and it was cleanly kept but again simply functional and in no way 'luxurious'. The bathroom was dimly lit and the shower unit had a small leak in it which meant water spilled out if the pressure was too high. I made no serious use of the kitchenette unit provided but would have appreciated a decent sized bin to put some rubbish in and a sponge to scrub my dishes with - fairly basic provisions. All in all I was left rather underwhelmed.
On a positive note, the apartments were pleasantly situated and only about a 20 minute trip from central London, and the staff were perfectly helpful and friendly in my brief interactions with them, but I still won't be staying here again or recommending it. There are much better value places to stay in London. 2/5

Very disappointed

We were very disappointed with our stay! The room was, to say the least, a bit rough around the edges!! chunks of plaster missing from some areas of the walls, the shower flooded the bathroom, which then came out in to the main room. The 'Kitchen' was in a cupboard and stank of curry whenever the door was opened. Nice!!! The TV barely worked picking up about 2 channels that had severe static and tube trains rumbled past about every 10 minutes until the early hours!!! However the staff were friendly and the location was fairly convenient. I definitely would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone!!!

Such a let down

I booked the superior deluxe studio for two with TV in the shower and silk sheets as a romantic weekend away for myself and my partner. Where do I start............What a joke!!!!!! 1st room was certainly not deluxe,no silk sheets no TV the room was about 10ft square. I complained to be told that there were no more rooms and what was I complaining for, I had a Jacuzzi bath! (small bath 2 jets!!) we were eventually moved to a "Deluxe" room. Better but most certainly not deluxe no silk sheets, TV in shower did not work and TV in room had 2 channels,ITV2 and Irish Sky News!!!!!! 2 hand towels and only 1 light bulb working in the bathroom. such a let down and staff were no help at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone such a waste of money.

The rooms are absolutrlynothing like the pictures, they are tiny, dirty and a major health and safety issue.
My collegues room the lock did not work, they smelled of smoke and do not feel safe for female travellers.
Never ever stayed anywhere like it in my life and the staff did not look one bit suprised when we complained. Pure filth.

Not what I expected

Perhaps I had unrealistic expectations of this accommodation. Having stayed in serviced flats in the past with family and groups of friends, I think they offer better value for money than hotels, especially as you can save a lot by cooking your own food instead of eating in restaurants all the time. However, I ended up getting takeaways instead, because cooking in the kitchenette is an unrealistic proposition. A wee hot plate crammed into a wee cupboard in the corner of the room is not an adequate cooking space.
I wouldn't have minded if this was the only problem - especially as I perhaps just expected too much here - but it wasn't. The TV had poor reception, meaning only a couple of channels were fully available (Sky News, ITV2 and Channel 4) while a handful of others had sound but were unwatchable, and the rest were just not working. So when I wanted to relax at the end of the day, I was extremely limited as to what i could watch. This wouldn't have been so bad if the WiFi was working, but it wasn't. I paid £10 for 24 hours worth of WiFi, and got about 3 hours of it, because when I returned in the evening, it was no longer working. I went to the reception to complain, and it turned out the guy there wasn't sure what was wrong. This was on the first night of a four-night stay, and when I left it still hadn't been fixed. This probably wasn't helped by the fact that there seemed to be no communication between the staff, as each of the three other staff I spoke to throughout my stay claimed to have no knowledge of the problem until I pointed it out to them. There seemed to be no effort to call someone in to fix it. Incidentally, I was also informed by one of the staff that the reason the TV wasn't working correctly was because of the work that was ongoing renovating some of the other rooms. That's nice, but why should I suffer as a consequence?
Ah yes, the workers. I was woken up every morning by workmen shuffling about in the corridor outside, and in the room two doors down, mainly because the walls are paper thin. Great. Oh, and this was meant to be a double room, but apart from the double bed, there is no way two people could have stayed in that room for any length of time.
I would not stay here again, and I would not recommend it to other people. These serviced "flats" are nothing more than glorified bedsits, and are clearly being done on the cheap. The price I paid was significantly lower than the normal price, and I still feel it was too much. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. The only positive thing I could say about it was that the staff were friendly, but that hardly makes up for everything else.

Overall, hotel wasn't too bad, the staff we're friendly, rooms clean & good location however, be warned, the photos may be slightly deceiving. I paid extra for deluxe room but they either put me in a standard room or the deluxe room just didn't reflect the photos on the website, either way it's not the best business ethos to decieve your customers. The room was an utter disappointment to what I was expecting, especially for what was meant to be a romantic weekend away.I would recommend staying at a place where you know what you're going to get for your money ie Ibis, Premier Inn etc... Personally I wouldn't stay here again.

Small But Sweet

The 'apartments' are actually a small single room; I had a single bed, a cupboard that contained a fridge/microwave/small sink and 1 ring electric hob - yes, all in a cupboard! A kettle and toaster inside too, but sadly, the socket to plug them in is hidden upside down next to the light in there. Many people don't find it.
A small TV on the wall, and a bedside cabinet. Door to a shower room and toilet. The toilet squeezed amazingly in-between the wall and the shower cubicle, not leaving much space at all. No plugs in either sinks, so it's awkward unless you use the shower.
Only one power socket, I found it behind the bed, and plugged in my own 6 way adapter - you will need one here.
The rooms are clean, however, and warm. And for the price, you're looking at probably half the rate of a hotel in the area. Earl's Court underground is literally a 5 minute walk away! I would stay here again, most of my time in London is the odd night here and there, so it's fine in that regard. Very friendly staff too
As for more than 1 or 2 nights, or a couple wanting a romantic weekend, I would suggest the extra money would be well spent to upgrade. But for the business trip, where you need a bed for the night, it's fine. Just know what to expect when you get there, that's all.
Remember: 6 way adapter, tea or coffee and milk (none there), take own water/cold drinks

Dylan Apartments Review

The hotel overall was satisfactory. There are only a few negative points to make, otherwise, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was confortable.
We were given a twin room instead of a double. The receptionist found us a Double room but on going to have a look at it, I chose to stick with the twin room as the Double room was below ground level and smelt bad (very bad!!!)
The bathroom in our twin room had a very distinct smell also but this vanished after the first day (probably hadnt been used in a while!?)
The main issue: The room looked absolutely nothing like any of the pictures which had been taken and put up on the late rooms site. I was under the impression these rooms were vaguely swanky, well decorated, roomy apartments. In fact, this room felt quite cheap and was not up to the standard I was expecting (but i lived with it). If they had honest pictures posted then I wouldn't have been as dissapointed
Overall: I was generally satisfied with the hotel as a whole and my stay was enjoyable. Just be aware, it is not as posh as some of the images make out!

This is not luxury class

Oh dear: I was disappointed with the quality of the accommodation at the Dylan Apartments. In my experience I would not describe the room as luxury. The room was extremely small with cheap fittings. It also smelt of damp, and mould in the bathroom had not been cleaned thoroughly. I was bitten during the night, which I believe was a fleabite.
We were told that the front door would be open and staffed until 10pm. We returned after dinner on Sunday evening well before 10pm to find 2 girls who's key cards did not work and had been waiting at the front door unable to reach anyone by telephone for half an hour. One of the four pass key cards between us fortunately worked.
I would not stay again, and felt it was not good value for money. I regularly stay in London, so consider I am able to judge value and standards reasonably. I have never complained about accomodation before. I have emailed Dylan directly, but not had a response.

Great location - too bad about the accommadation

The location close to Earl's Court Underground and the Picadilly line was great but the accommodation was very disappointing. There was no working phone in the room, the bathroom had several broken fittings, there were no plugs for the sinks, the safe didn't work and only half the lightbulbs worked (although we asked for this to be fixed it didn't happen). The room was called a 'studio' but there was no table for us to sit at when we ate our meals and the kitchen facilities were very basic. The drawers in the bedside cabinets were dirty.

Dylan apartments was horrendous!

Dylan apartments could not have been more dissappointing if it tried. The rooms were faslsely advertised and looked nothing like the website. In our group we had 3 rooms and each room was at a extremley low standard. On the 3rd floor the room next to one of our rooms had danger tape across it and dirty sheets stuffed at the bottom of the door these were not moved for our entire 3 night stay. The whole buliding stank of damp and mold, the sheets were not clean, one of our rooms had a make shift plastic blind as a bathroom door which did not shut correctly. The receptionist asked if we liked our room we obviously said no and in reply she laughed. One of my collegues was asked for her credit card details which were written down and filed there was no explanation and the details were not returned at the end of our stay. In reception they were selling 35p multipack cans of coke for £2 even though it stated these were not to be sold separtely. Suffice to say we will never be staying here again and we would reccomed others to stay away also.

Very small for studio apartment.Should not be advertised as an apartment.

I had a very stressful and hot train journey to London which took two hours.By time I had reached the hotel I was in need of a comfortable rest before going out into London to meet friends.I was in the reception area for around 15 to 20 minutes before someone came to the front desk and booked me in.I was on the 2nd floor and found the lift extremely small, although it stated it could hold 4 people. My room was extremely small and very stuffy. The weekend was very hot and although I had a big window in the room I had to have the curtains shut for privacy,so had very little venterlation.A small electric fan was provided within the room and I had this on consently.I felt that the kettle and toaster were dangerously near a single hob.I had to place most of my personaly things on the bed for lack of space. The un-suite was divided by a folding door, that I constantly knocked my arm against, again the bathroom was so small that it just felt too over powering to have the door shut. There was no bathroom vent,so the whole apartment filled with steam when I showered, this made everything damp and clammy. When my husband joined me the second night of staying the room was just unbearably small. We had to take it in turns to get dressed, one sat on the bed while the other dressed then vice verser. When we were packing to leave we found lack of space and the heat of the room too much as was just stressed and worn out before we began our day.It was 7 minutes past check out time when we were ready to leave, but already the receptionist had been knocking on our door to remind us of time, perhaps if we had enough space we would'nt have to have took it in turns to wash, dress and pack.

"I wouldn't go in there if I was you mate"

As I arrived at the hotel someone standing outside said, "I wouldn't go in there if I was you mate". I did anyway. He was right. I shouldn't have.
The decor of the hotel was old and tattered. There were a number of places on the way up to the room where pieces of chunks of plaster were missing from the walls. The room was incredibly small. The curtain didn't reach to the bottom of the window so I was woken by the sunlight before 5 am. The bathroom stank of bad drains and every time any water was run into the sink the smell was worse. Water drained very slowly from the sink (very slowly) and all sorts of detritus was washed up from somewhere down the pipe. There was no plug in the sink which made shaving tricky. I had to replace my room key each day. Apparently, when the cleaners go into the rooms they have a new key made and this invalidates the key you have.
All in all, I was very displeased with the room, the hotel and myself for being dumb enough to stay there.

It is definitely the tiniest room I have ever been in and perhaps the smallest in the world! There is not even enough space to put up an ironing board! Apart from the ridiculous size of it the room itself is very basic and rather clean. I only spend the night in it because you can't do much more than lie on the bed there. But the hotel location was perfect for everything I was doing and it is only a 5 minute walk to the tube station so I guess on the whole the value for money is fair.

On our return at night, we were locked out of our room, the poor night porter tried his best to find a working key-card for our door (half a dozen trips up and downstairs). We finally suggested he phone his manager, which he did. Finally got into our room after an hours delay.
Overall though, the room was cheap but comfortable, but would hardly class it as an apartment, more of a hotel room with an added wardrobe which contained a microwave, a one ring cooker, a tiny sink and a fridge.

I would definitely not recommend this hotel to Anyone. I stayed for two nights and could not wait to leave. The room was extremely small for the price that I paid, and the feel of the entire place was out of a scary movie. Tiny, dark hallways leading to a tiny, smelly room. The walls could use a nice coat of paint, and the carpets Definitely need replaced.
The pictures that I saw online led me to believe I was staying in an apartment/hotel that was worth the price, this was definitely not the case. Next time I will just stay further from town in a nice hotel.

A pleasant suprise after reading other reviews!!

After reading reviews after booking this accomodation I tried to find alternative accomodation but everywhere was full due to an event at Olympia.
But have to say the staff were very helpful. Although the hallways were a bit grim I was pleasantly suprised by the studio apartment. Very clean, newly fitted kitchenette (utensils were a bit bare and no cleaning products) Wooden floors so did not experience the sticky carpet syndrome. Bright airy room with flat screen tv, overlooking gardens. Very comfy bed and pillows, had great nights sleep! Large Tesco round the corner which was great as I didn't fancy going out so went shopping and ate in room which had a table and 2 chairs. For a one or 2 night businss stay it was ideal on cost and location. Think I got lucky and got one of the newly refurbished 'executive' rooms so had a good stay. I was there on business, admittedly if I was there for a break/hols I'd prob go for something a bit more luxurious but it's ideal for a business / wknd stay.

My room was even tinier than I expected with completely unsuitable 'kitchenette' - broken, furniture and only one curtain. For three nights of the stay there was a smell of raw sewage - this was due to the rain apparently. YOU ARE CHARGED 5% to pay for the room if you don't use cash or a debit card - this was over £40 in my case. The people on reception were perfectly pleasant but not one of them could help me find another curtain or fix any of the issues.
I have stayed in many hotels and apartments on trips to London and this one was the worst.

Dylan apartments/York Hotel

Upon first arrival at the apartment/hotel I was confused. I was looking for the Dylan apartments but unfortunately this is not written anywhere on the building, it does however rather helpfully have "York Hotel" written in big letters over the door, luckily the building number 27 is also written on the porch which enabled me to be sure it was the correct place.
Reception staff were lethargic at best and the petite foyer was unknown to me a very good predictor of things to come. On the plus side the hotel is in a very nice street (aesthetically speaking) and excellently positioned for earls court station for access to the district line.
On receiving my room key I was told I had room 29 (no paperwork or card slips into which key cards are placed) like many other hotels. Once I located the room and opened the door I was overwhelmed by the sheer lack of space therein. A double bed was provided, as was a wardrobe and shabby desk and credit goes to the staff how they got the kit up there via this narrow corridors and the got it all in is a mystery! The ensuite was exceptionally small but everything worked. Bed comfortable, no tea or coffee provided and the fridge door was broken. I had to pay £10 to leave luggage after check out, no locked luggage storage facilities either it was left in reception in full view with the staff ensuring me they would "keep an eye on it".
In summary it's cheap like the budgie, and bearable for a short stint but I would never return, the pictures advertised on the site were nothing like what I experienced.

Ideally placed for Earls Court

The hotel was easy to find, in a smart street within walking distance of both Earls Court and the local shops and restraunts. I did not cook in the room but had plenty of choices nearby for breakfast and evening meals. The customer service was OK but there was no offer to carry my bag to my room on arrival and when I checked out, I was informed that I'd be charged an extra £10 for leaving my bag in reception after 11 a.m check out time. The room was clean but tiny, with the double bed only just fitting in. They had been creative with space but a couple would have not wanted to stay in the hotel too long. I only needed a place to sleep, so it was fine for me and the bed was very comfortable and bug free. In conclusion this hotel satisfied my basic needs but at too higher cost and I do not feel any loyalty toward the brand due to un-engaging staff.

Don't believe the before price

The room was much smaller than expected. It was described as a luxury suite but was in fact a small bedsit style room with a kitchen area and bed but no seating. The TV was at right angles to the bed which had to be jammed in a corner so it was uncomfortable to watch. There was no shelf in the shower or bathroom on which to put anything which was very frustrating. The room was an attempt to be stylish with flat screen TV icluding one in the shower (the value of which escapes me) but it was definitely a case of style over substance. The original price of over £300 per night would have been theft but at £100 it was OK...I've stayed in a lot worse places in Kensington.

Appartement with kitchenette was a good choice for us

The location of the York house is OK, a couple of minutes from the Earls Court tube station - exit Warwick Road (Exhibition Centre). An excellent shop where you can buy everything you need to prepare a delicious and healthy meal in your kitchenette is called The Cooperative Food and is situated at the other tube exit to Earls Court Road. The stuff at the Hotel was OK, 24 hour reception. The appartment was small, but comfortable enough for the 2 of us, we booked the Deluxe Twin and got one on the 1st floor. Well, there weren't any silk sheets as promissed ;-), but they were white and even changed once in our 4 night stay, although kinda strange, changed on Sunday, the night before our departure. The room was clean, the bathroom big enough, although a minour mould stain in the shower... We got 5 new towels every day and they made our beds while we were out. The window could be opened, but not to the full and the glass wasn't clean. The thing I didn't like is, that they asked for a full Credit Card info, although I've paid in cash! They explained it is only in case "something happens to the room"!? Well, the shower head wasn't fixed properly, the window couldn't fully close.... I will be wondering for some time if they might try to put something on my account... The guy at the desk kindly provided us with an electrical adaptor to charge our foto batteries and phone. Suma sumarum it was a very nice stay and good value for money.

Small room, but we knew that when we booked. Shower was hot, lots of clean towels, comfortable bed and a small table and chairs, cooker and fridge for our DIY breakfast. Tesco just up the road, so easy to get food.
Great value for money and would stay there again.
The man on the front desk was very polite and handled a difficult client (just ahead of us) smoothly and considerately.
Recommended.

Satisfactory accommodation

Arrived at hotel with a sense of trepidation having read previous reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly welcome and room was small but immaculately clean. I had one of the refurbished rooms so problably best to insist on one of these.

Not really apartments - just very small converted hotel rooms

I was expecting simple but this was very poor - noisy, cramped and holes in the walls. Certainly looked nothing like any of the photos. There was nowhere to sit other than the bed and nowhere you could prepare food other than in the (tiny) sink which is an inch from the single ring cooker. The small TV did not pick up much other than static - they attempted to fix it (after twice complaining) but failed and refused to give any compensation.

A very nice apartment very handy for Earls Court tube station.

The accommodation allowed us to get up a bit later after a night out, and have breakfast and evening meal when we were ready. Make sure you take food that can be cooked in a microwave.

Good location - small room

Just around the corner from earls court tube station so easy to get around London
The room was a lot smaller than anticipated, with barely any space around the bed. The kitchen facilities were small and hidden away inside a cupboard but I guess would be handy in a pinch. The curtains kept out no light at all, as were made of a gauze like material.
The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly, and helpful.
Good for the price I suppose, but I was disappointed with the size and decoration of the room (scuff marks and holes in the walls).

WHAT DID THE WORST REVIEW SAY?
