I'd booked a single room for one night...
I'd booked a single room for one night only. I arrived an hour before check-in and was told my room was ready so was able to check-in early, great start. Although I didn't ask to be upgraded, the Receptionist immediately apologised that he couldn't upgrade my room due to the fact that the hotel was fully booked for that night (FA Cup and play-offs weekend, very busy). The room itself was quite small but entirely suitable for one person, although en-suite was perhaps a little cramped. Bed was a double and very comfortable and clean, as were the bathroom and towels. One thing that I found not acceptable but could live with for one night was the fact that there was no internal lock on the room's door into the corridor - just a chain, which I didn't feel totally secure with.I'd mentioned to the Receptionist that I'd need to check-out very early next morning so would miss breakfast. He said that would be no problem - he would arrange for the dining room to be open for me to have a continental breakfast, and would 5.30am be okay? That was a very good of him, well beyond my expectation.Price-wise I think my room was slightly overpriced but I must stress the customer service I received during my short stay was most excellent, first class - and if it was that good next time I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. One big plus was the free wi-fi, the signal in my room was very strong.

Eliane Cornaz Affolter

This is not a 4 star hotel by any means. No lift. They did bring me breakfast to 4th floor but no milk for tea! Terrible experience

5minute walk from Victoria Station has you standing in front of a fairly impressive looking Windermere Hotel. On arrival we were upgraded to the Cartmel room. A nice room with a small couch and a good size very soft bed. It faces the main road. The room was clean and well equipped. On the downside there is a noise of running water when the room above uses their facilities. It sounds as if it's running down the walls and it's so loud it'll keep you awake, especially when they are taking a shower at 5am. The floors above also creek like mad. The road outside never really gets quiet and the residents of an adjacent tower block are anything but quiet when returning from their nights out! Overall the stay was pleasant, the hotel clean and in a good location for Buckingham Palace, St James Park and the Appolo Victoria theatre but I didn't get much sleep at all!!

There was a friendly reception at the hotel and the room was clean, not huge but comfortable. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and good service. The location couldn't have been better; a pleasant and relatively quiet area well within walking distance of Westminster, The West End etc. We paid £169 for a family room which I think was pretty good value considering its situation and facilities. Also worth mentioning is the fact that we were able to control the heating in trhe room - and open the window without being subjected to excessive traffic noise. Would reccomend this place, and probably use it again.

Just popping down for one night as the usual hotel was full. The Windermere is a friendly little hotel full of personality. The welcome was warm and friendly and the room clean and comfortable. They upgraded me to a double room as there were doubles available that night. The room had a good desk space was limited due to the large bed - Extremely comfortable - I slept well. I would rather have a large bed and less space although if my partner had been there as well, we would have got in each other's way. Bathroom was small but perfectly adequate with a good shower. There is a good selection of restaurants within a short walk - Myself and a colleague ate at "Millhouse Spice" on Vauxhall Bridge Road which, although slightly more expensive was well worth it for London. The hotel staff took note of my comments as they told me they are always on the look out for recommendations for other guests.Overall, I would recommend this hotel. The accommodation is of a good to high standard and the welcome was extremely friendly and genuine. My room overlooked the road and noise was not a problem. It is abouit 5 minutes walk from Victoria rail station and (if I got my geography right) even closer from the coach station. If you prefer a genuine hotel rather than a faceless chain, this is one to consider.

The heating in the room was broken. In the bathroom there was an intense smell of disinfectant and detergent products (so I was obliged to open the window...). I think it is enough....

I booked a single room, but the one I was offered was in the basement and, on a cold snowy day in January smelt musty. I asked for another room, and was offered an excellent much larger room. The whole stay (2 nights) was a very pleasant experience. The hotel stands out from others in the same road because it appears freshly painted and welcoming. All staff were helpful, friendly and generated a very pleasant atmosphere. I had one evening meal which was top quality. The breakfast was first rate, well cooked, excellent ingredients and piping hot. I'll certainly stay in the Windermere again.

Excellent hotel and location. Staff couldn't be more helpful. I arranged to meet my daughter in London, she arrived before me and got to the hotel approx 12.30pm. Our room was ready for us and she was able to leave her suitcase in the room while she came to Paddington to meet me. We had an evening meal which was exceptional value. The steak melted in your mouth and cooked to perfection. Upon departure of the hotel, check out time was 11.00am. but they let us keep the room until 12.30pm. Excellent service all round. Would highly recommend.

Our premier room felt like more of a suite and was extremely comfortable. The breakfast array was great and the restaurant staff were too. The welcome that I received upon arrival was friendly and warm and the night reception staff were equally so. Would definately stay again!
