Fabulous staff, great location

I recently stayed at the wellington with my mother and my 2 young children. The room was clean with everything we needed. The staff were very accomadating and the food was lovely especially breakfast. The wellington had a great location within walking distance of the london eye and on the doorstep of the underground which is def the way to get around in such a busy city.
Thank you to all of the staff, when returning to london we will def be staying again.

What can I say, this hotel was 100 time better than I was expecting and the reviews told me it was great. I booked this for my partners 40th birthday, and the hotel couldn't do anymore to make it a very specal occasion. They were on to it as soon as we walked through door, making sure the room was ready with champagne and decorations when we got in. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner was brillaint, he wanted to help make our weekend special and helped us with places to go and what to do. We will definitely be staying here again - more than once. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Our room backed out onto the very busy railway line, which, for some people might be a little too noisey, but for us wasn't an issue as we were so tired from our days activities. The room itself was lovely and clean and the bed was extremely comfortable, however we were a little dissapointed as we were looking forward to having a bath in the ensuite only to find there was shower and no bath. But this is only a minor gripe. The corridor and stairs to the room look a little shabby and were very strong smelling of cigarettes(the smell had gone by the morning, but it was a little unpleasent). The location was great for the Tate modern and covent garden and was very easy to find walking from Victoria station. The lively pub downstairs looked like a good place to start an evening although we didn't try it on this occasion. I would recommend this hotel to my friends. Very reasonable and very comfortable.

Not acceptable after a day of hard work

I booked this room because the existing reviews were good. Unfortunately my experience was far from good. The access to the rooms with luggage is difficult and no help was offered. The room was very small and the carpet very dirty. The breakfast was not good either with very old and stale croissants.
All in all not acceptable when you have been working all day and you have more work the following day.

Room was tidy, clean and surprisinigly quiet given the proximity to the station. The landlord and his team could not have been friendlier and really made us feel welcome. Although the rooms are obviously a little tired and in need of a spruce up, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was very clean and the shower was superb. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting somewhere convenient and comfortable for a short to medium stay in London.

Glad I read another review suggesting taking ear plugs! I live in the country and ear plugs meant I got at least a reasonable amount of sleep. Room small but reasonable. Breakfast OK. Only stayed one night. Would be happy to stay one night, or two at a push... but I need my sleep.

Unable to get in the hotel and wrong type of room!

When i booked the room i asked for 'early check-in' for 11.30-12.00. I called the hotel the day before just to checked this was still okay as i didn't want to arrive in Waterloo early and then have to wander around until the usual 2pm check-in.
When i arrived at 11.00am all the shutters were down on the hotel/pub. There were No Doors i could use to get in. I even walked around the building 3 times to ensure i wasn't 'missing anything'. I could see staff in the pub through the window but despite banging on the windows and doors i was ignored. I tried calling the hotel about 20times to say i was outside but it was constantly engaged. I managed to get in when someone who was staying there exited the building. When i did get in and say i was to be checking-in early it was like i was 'putting them out'. When i finally got my room key (which they wouldn't give me until 12, even though i paid at 11.30) it was a twin room with 2 single beds and NOT the double, which i had asked for and booked.

Central location, good value for money.

We decided to stay at the Wellington after viewing other accommodation. The reviews were satisfactory so we thought we would give it a try. Rooms were adequate and bedding very clean, loads of hot water all the time. The breakfast was excellent, being freshly cooked to order. We did not eat evening meals there so can't comment on the quality.Buses run past the door every few minutes and over 60s can use bus passes.

Great location, good service. Hotel room is basic and does get very hot. In our room we only had access to open one window, there was no air con or portable fan to use so I am imagine in the warmer months that this hotel could become very uncomfortable. There is also a lot of traffic noise due to the hotel being so close to the station and main roads so if you are a light sleeper I would definitely recommend you taking ear plugs with you. They have a bar menu and the food that we had was good, the bar area itself is lively with a good atmosphere.

Get what you pay for really.
Room could have been a lot cleaner with cobwebs on the ceiling and the shower cubicle being rather dirty.
Also had trouble with the shower as it would only give you boiling water unless you had it on full power, which after doing led to the headset flying off the holder hitting my girlfriend on the head.

Great value - great location!

Great value for money, especially because location is right across from the Waterloo train/tube station, giving easy access to all of London. The hotel staff was pleasant and friendly and accommodating! It was a bit awkward checking it late on a Friday night when the bar is hoping, especially because you check in at the bar and have to fight your way to find where to check in at, and you look a little silly carrying luggage in front of all the bar goers - but it's still a great value for the money. The room is small, but it was perfect for what we need - just a place to shower and sleep. It was exceptionally clean though, the bed was very comfy, and the train nose isn't so bad - even with the window open! Especially if you're exhausted after all the site-seeing! You don't even notice it! The breakfast in the morning was wonderful and the service was very helpful and friendly! Pointed us in the direction to find an adapter for my hair straightner! And even stowed our bags after we checked out so we can continue our adventure in London before we left! I'd definitely stay here again.

Cosy and Comfortable.

Was very tired when we arrived in the evening, so off to bed we went,. the room was spotless, had some pillows and a cushion so could get comfy and watch TV which was on the wall and was a good size. There were a few faint train noises but it was nothing unbearable. To be honest its better than hearing noises from a busy street. We were at the back so no street noise. The shower was very good, nice large towel and toiletries smelled pleasant. The breakfast and coffee and toast were excellent, served by friendly staff.

Accommodations with character, not recommended for sleeping in

The Wellington is conveniently situated across from Waterloo station. I arrived in the midst of a rugby match but had no problems checking in at the very crowded pub on the ground floor. One then weaves their way up stairs and through a series of winding halls and through many fire doors. I was pleasantly surprised with my room, it was clean, big enough, comfortable and the bed and pillows soft and comfy. The room was also equipped with a hair dryer, tea service and wi fi. The UK is known in the industry as having sub standard hotels when compared with other countries, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the Wellington. Just one word of caution train service starts early so only heavy sleepers will be able to sleep in. I would recommend this hotel as well as the curry joint down the block. It's a departure from the generic chain hotels but I appreciated it's history and character.

The pub is nice, but the hotel part is terrible!

When entering, the pub looks very nice..... but straight away, my stay at the hotel was terrible.
When trying to check in, none of the staff knew how to check me in. They could hardly understand english. They didn't tell me what number my room was, where I could find it, what time & where breakfast was etc - nothing. I was just left to guess.....
There was no information in the room - about where to get breakfast etc. and no phone to call reception if there is a problem.
The room was tiny for a double, but quite clean.
The Bathroom had mould all around the shower and the sink was dirty from the person before.
The window in my double room was broken and wouldn't close. I told the bar staff and they said someone would come and fix it - no one came! Therefore it was a freezing Feb nights stay.
I did eat down in the pub, and the food was decent for pub food.
But you can hear the pub from your room (quite a busy noisey pub), you are also next to the tube and a main road - so not a peaceful night. Although there were ear plugs to use, in the room.
But the staff were rude, not very clear and generally my stay was awful.

It's very reasonably priced for the location It's convenient for the tube and all transport links.
However what really stands out is the friendly service, the great breakfast, and the overall atmosphere. This is central London so there will always be a bit of noise from the Street at night but overall we love the Wellington which has characterful rooms, good bathrooms / toiletries, and is always very clean and safe
