Indifferent stay for too much money

I travel to London for 2 nights most weeks, so have stayed at a few.
This hotel was basic, and slightly run down in general.
I stayed in Room 2, which is down next to the breakfast room. The room is below the entry, so people stand outside the hotel talking, which is annoying for the room occupant, but not their fault. Also, the room adjoins the kitchen used to prepare breakfast, so you get a wake up at 6.30 when the crashing and banging starts. The room size was OK. Bathroom was basic, shower stall cramped, but plenty of hot water at good pressure.
Night staff have no idea how to get laptops running Windows 7 connected to the wifi. This is a problem if you are on business as I was.
Good location for food and tube. Continental breakfast was fine, with good croissant and OK coffee. A bit short on tables, but you get to meet fellow travellers that way!
Absolutely not worth the money I was charged to stay there. Would not consider again unless a last resort.

Great service for a great price

Its a simple hotel with simple amenities but the guys on the front desk are great, really helpful and pleasant.
Breakfast is simple but plentiful and served in a clean and friendly way. The rooms can be small but so can the prices - recommend for the budget traveller everytime!

Still a little better than similarly-priced competition

I was trying to analyse why I preferred this hotel to the one next door and came to the following conclusion: it's not because the rooms are better - although they are - but it's the fact that the staff are polite, friendly and welcoming. Good manners and politeness are a key ingredient of customer service but some hotels just don't seem to appreciate that.
I checked in earlier than anticipated but the receptionist ran up to the third floor to check that the room was ready. This was done very good-naturedly and reinforced my opinion that I had made the right choice of hotel.
The decor of the room, as before when I stayed here, was a little 'tired' but the room was comfortable, adequately equipped although the bed did creak a little.
Breakfast again was more than adequate for me although some might find it a little meagre. Fresh fruit, juice, cereals, toast or croissants, tea or coffee.
The only negatives to my stay were that the price of a single room was £10 more than I paid for a double room two months previously and the (different) receptionist when I checked out was a bit grumpy.
All in all I still think this hotel is one of the best in the area at the price.

Comfortable stay

The reception staff were welcoming & helpful. Although my single room was very comfortable, it was on the 4th floor. When I explained my difficulty with having so many stairs to climb the reception staff offered me an alternative room on the ground floor for the second night of my stay. I very much appreciated this. My luggage was moved for me. Having 24hour staff presence on reception was very re-assuring. Perhaps if it was made clearer that single rooms are at the top of the building this would help clients. I shall stay here again.

Smallish and slightly shabby room but friendly and helpful staff

We spent two nights in the hotel, Saturday and Sunday so the value for money was good. The room was a little small. It was not too noisy even though it was situated at the front of the hotel. There was plenty of hanging space but virtually no shelf or drawer space so it would have been difficult to unpack. The furniture was old but functional, though the bed could have been more comfortable -- wider, a little softer, and less 'bouncy'. The bathroom was good. Breakfast -- orange juice, cornflakes, muesli or weetabix, tea or coffee, toast and croissants -- was fine and efficiently served. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. They ask guests to leave the key when they go out. The first evening the receptionist asked our name when we came back for it. This check was not made the second evening, even though the receptionist had not seen us before. We regarded this as a slightly unsatisfactory lapse in security. We had a good meal in a Vietnamese restaurant in the next street towards Victoria. There are other inviting restaurants nearby.

Nice Place

I booked the hotel because of it.s location and price. The hotel had mixed reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. However all I needed was a place to stay for a couple of nights.
The hotel turned out to be quite clean, the room was tired but clean and tidy with a proper ensuite not one of those box things you sometimes come across in cheap London hotels.. Only down side was the room was on the fourth floor and there is no lift.
The breakfast was the usual cereal, juice, toast tea or coffee and also fresh fruit. A bargain.
Just round the corner is Grumbles Bistro. Also recommended.
Staff were helpful and efficient. I'll stay again.

For the price one doesn't expect much but this was a little better than I expected

The receptionist was quietly efficient and I checked-in and had my room key within a few minutes of arriving. The room was a basement room and was bigger than I expected although the decor and furnishings were a little 'tired'. The bathroom was compact and functional although the water pressure in the shower was impressive. The hotel is located in the heart of Pimlico and was an ideal location for me being close to work but only a few minutes walk from Victoria. Breakfast was adequate: cereals, fruit juice, fresh fruit, toast, tea or coffee.

I was allocated a basement room with a very small en suite shower room.
The furniture looked a little tired but was serviceable.
Unfortunately the room where breakfast was served was too small for the number of guests such that a queue formed outside the basement dining room at 0800am on the Saturday morning.
Only a continental breakfast was available.

Decent for the money, can't fault it!

To be honest I wasn't expecting much from the hotel... I'd packed extra layers to sleep in at night in case it got cold, ear plugs in case it was noisy, and an eye mask in case it had thin curtains that let the light through. I needed none of these - the heating was always on and made the room toasty, the location was quiet and the windows thick enough to mask most street/traffic noises in the morning, and there were net blinds covered by thick long curtains.
The two males on Reception were very friendly, one kindly offered to carry my heavy roller-case up all the stairs for me (I don't think there's a lift, in case you have difficulties with stairs).
You have to leave your key at Reception when you go out, but I guess this is to save having to replace lost ones.
The room was just what I needed, the bed was a bit hard but that comes down to personal preference I think. The TV had channels 1-5, it was a small TV but I wasn't there to spend much time relaxing in my room.
There were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe for me - usually I find there are never enough! There's a safe in the wardrobe too but I didn't use this.
The bathroom was clean, and towels were provided - 2 large and 2 small with one to stand on when you get out of the shower. There was sufficient hot water - also a pleasant surprise as I'd heard stories of 'budget' hotels running out!
I called reception for the wi-fi code and logged on... it was fast and consistent, I was imagining it would be like dial-up!
I had breakfast on my second morning, just a regular continental where you can request tea/coffee and toast/croissant, with a small selection of cereals and fruit. It wasn't an outstanding selection but it did the job, and when my croissants (I got 2!) arrived they'd been heated nicely.
Honestly, I was really surprised and pleased with the standards of my stay. Good job!

The Victor Hotel

I am gutted that I have to say two bad things about this hotel because overall I would recommend people to stay here. I'll start with the good hoping it will outweigh the bad.
The customer service is excellent, greeted with a nice welcome and given enough information about the surrounding area. Also at breakfast they were polite and quick with serving tea's and coffee's along with hot croissants. I also needed some documents printed and the reception was able to do this me at no charge and also was kind enough to ask about my stay and how i finding the hotel. Again great Service!! Lastly each night I was able to get a good 6-8 hours sleep due to it being quite on the 3rd floor.
Ok so here's the bad, on the fourth night I went to get into bed and pulled off the first set of covers, I then saw what appeared to be stain on the sheets, I took a picture of this and I will try to upload it. I changed the sheets over, trying to avoid the stain. This however didn't bother me too much as I've helped out in hospitals before, but I feel some people may find this totally unacceptable. The second bad point is that the hotel is very old, this then meant that the floorboards creaked on every step, I don't think there was a part to the room you couldn't stand on without it creaking.

For £75 a night you're not going to expect the Ritz.
Room was big and kept clean. Shame the TV was a bit knackered, but wasn't their to watch TV.
Shower was nice and powerful.
Staff were really friendly.
Oh and free WiFi, although note it's using WEP encryption, so you'll want to make sure you're using https browsing for many sites.
So if you want a good place to stay in the heart of london (the hotel is a short walk from Victoria Station) this is a great option.

The decor in the bedroom was a bit "welcome to the eighties" but the ensuite bathroom was absolutely marvellous. Basic but ok!

My partner and I decided to stay at this hotel because of the price, £130 for two nights B&B, it was a great location, just a short walk to either victoria or plimico tube stations.the room was clean but very basic, few black marks on the wall where people must have run their suitcases/shoes along which were in need of a lick of paint, we had a room on the front of the hotel which felt as though we might as well have been sleeping on the street with the traffic noise sounding asthough we had the window open, the noise was due to a lack of double glazing, which did upset our sleep a little. however we would probably stay there again if we were looking for a cheap weekend and would just try and get a room at the back of the hotel. oh I also would say that with the breakfast there was no offer of a cooked breakfast, just toast and jam/butter and cereal, which maybe wouldn't suit everyone, but was ok for us as we aren't really morning eaters.

Good staff, food good but room poor

We stayed for one night in Aug 2011. No facilities for elderly/disabled guests as our room was up six flights of stairs. The staff were extremely helpful, the bath room was acceptably clean and the food was standard quality. However the bed sheets were old and itchy and the bedroom window was old and wedged open so we had a terrible night's sleep and woke up with a sniffly nose. Cheap and good location near Victoria and Pimlico but rooms and carpets need decorating and refurbishing.

A bit tired but clean

Best thing I can say about this hotel is that it was clean. The place is a bit on the tired and shabby side, and even from the outside you can tell that in a whole row of hotels on this streets it's the poor relation. But that said, would you prefer a swanky hotel room that was dirty? I know I wouldn't. The staff at reception and breakfast were all very friendly. Breakfast itself is nothing fancy and there's not much choice, but again, all clean and for the price, you can't expect wonders. I'd recommend this place if you just need somewhere to lay your head at night.

I booked this hotel for my grandson and his girlfriend. They arrived about 10.30pm and were shown to their room on the ground floor. The walls had mould on them and there was dirty tissues under the bed. The shower was also quite dirty. They complained and were asked if they could wait until morning and they would be given an alternative room. They were transferred to an upstairs room but on returning home they sent a written complaint to the hotel and were immediately refunded the cost of one night accommodation. Everything else about the hotel was satisfactory, staff were pleasant, breakfast was adequate. Very impressed that the complaint was dealt with promptly and satisfactorily.

Good Value for the Business or Seasoned Traveller

I searched long and hard for a reasonably priced hotel for a business trip to London, they were either too high or when reviewed they seemed too be better priced at an hourly rate or they were booked. I finally found the Victor and it was with some trepidation that I walked the half mile to the Hotel from Victoria. The guy on the reception desk was really helpful and all seemed well until he told me my room was on the top floor - "all the single rooms are on the top" - I'm a wedding photographer and was ladened by bags of equipment, I'm also not the healthiest of specimens so the thought of climbing the stairs didn't sit well. I was helped with the bags and after a couple of stops to gather my lungs I reached my room. It was basic but clean. The odd spot of wear on the wallpaper here and there but OK. The bathroom was clean as well and there were clean towels. (changed both days). I was out before breakfast on both days so I can't comment about the food but at £140 for Friday and Saturday nights I was happy and would stay here again - but I need to be a lot fitter.
