I booked this hotel for my bussiness trip. The location was very convenient, just near the Bayswater.
The room was very clean, tight. I would like to recommmed this hotel to my friends.
Didn't expect much when I first booked a room - needed a place and was close by. Since then I've stayed here over 5 times. Excellent hotel, clean, charming and they are obviously trying hard to make your stay pleasant.
Do see the rooms beforehand if possible - it is in an old building so each room is different.
Our room was clean and very comfortable with a fab view onto the beautiful square, it was the quietest hotel in central london you could stay at. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The room was on the small side but had everything you needed. We thought the umi was a brilliant find for value and location, we'll be back and recommend it.
Summary
Convenient location and near a range of eateries on Queensway and Westbourne Grove. My room was looking a bit tired but had everything I needed.Probably would stay again if my usual hotel wasn't available or needed to be in that area specifically.
Summary
After staying in 4 different hotels in the last month on business, I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel overlooks a lovely garden and is welcoming with a bar, free newspapers and evening meals available. It's a busy place so don't expect peace and quiet. The room was not large but was clean and had everything I wanted. Comfy bed, multi channel telly, hot shower and a view! The price was ok and I will definitely stay again.
Summary
We arrived to a cordial reception. I was impressed by the generosity of the woman behind the counter when she produced not one but two swipe-card keys. Perhaps she thought my beautiful other half was going to some society do and I was going to a Ripperologists' convention in Whitechapel, and we wouldn't be back at the same time.
The lift worked, which was nice. We were too tired to climb four flights of stairs with a case apiece.
The swipe-card I inserted into the slot to open the door worked first time! I stay in a lot of hotels - not just shabby ones, either - and this was a new experience for me. I could have fainted.
When we entered the room, we thought we had walked into a fairground . Either that, or the builder had had a few. The floor had a gradient! It was great fun, though. At one point, I looked over at my girlfriend and I thought I had contracted a case of the "dreaded shrinks", perhaps from reading Roald Dahl's "The Twits". I'm just thankful I'm not going bald, because if I were, she would have been able to see my glistening pate.
The gradient also contributed to the dreams I experienced, in which I was hurtling down a slide - not that the bed was made of sheet metal. It was quite comfortable and there were plenty of pillows.
The shower was reasonably powerful and the toilet flushed without any trouble. Can't ask for much more than that.
The only major problem we encountered happened early in the morning, on both days, and this was noise from the bedroom above: lots of scraping of furniture, walking around, that sort of thing. Removal men? Noisy eighteen year old kids let loose in That London for the first time? A re-enactment of Hitchcock's "Rope" (or, more appropriately, "Frenzy")? We bear the perpetrators of this disturbance no ill will. We had to be up at 8am on the first morning, anyway, for a meeting near Clapham Common. (No, I'm not a Member of Parliament.)
Best of all, the staff even let us keep our cases in the luggage room after we had checked out on the final morning. Shortly after that, my partner made use of the internet for a quarter of an hour whilst I had a look at the paper. I must congratulate the management on their decision to use split wooden poles with a leather cord to keep the newspapers neat and tidy. On removing one of these contraptions to read the paper, I didn't know whether I should indulge in some martial arts practice or mime whipping a horse.
We had such a great time in London that we spent hardly any time in the hotel, but we would definitely stay there again. Nice view of the garden in the Square, too.

The hotel was situated in a very nice part of London, lots of shops, restaurants and pubs around the area. The costumer service was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. I'll definitely be coming back.
Summary
Umi is brilliant for weekend getaways - rooms are clean with good facilities and its closeto lots of restaurants and a short tube ride away from central london.
Staff are friendly but clueless, i was told on check in that continental breakfast was included only to be told in the morning that it was not...not impressed with that.
But aside from the staff good value hotel.
The place is great and very well located: also great breakfast. Two things to say: 1) no lift!!! and my room was on the third floor!! 2) free wifi only I had to go down some flights to get signal. Lovely ladies at reception and at breakfast, they even washed some cloths for me at no cost!! I would gladly go back, only if I was to have a room on the first floor.
Summary
The Umi Hotel is located in Leinster Square in Bayswater. The location itself is pleasant enough, close to bus links on Westbourne Grove, with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops in close proximity. The hotel reception has clearly been refurbished in recent times and is pleasant and functional with an in-house coffee shop / breakfast bar (I cannot comment on the quality of the service or food though, as I didn't use the facility during my stay). Unfortunately, that is where the positives end. My room was reasonably sizeable, with a double bed and en-suite shower room, but was very tatty, with threadbare carpets, an old and somewhat worn out bed and tatty of furniture. The desk chair was in very poor condition, covered in stains and with very worn fabric. The room looked reasonably clean on first inspection, but closer investigation revealed cobwebs and heavy dust hanging from the ceiling and light fittings, and dust and dirt down the side and underneath the bed.
The singled glazed window was not effective at keeping out external noise, and the room got very cold at night (there was also no extra blankets supplied in the room. The finish of the en-suite shower room was very poor with old flooring curling up at the edges (possibly due to damp?), and the whole thing seemed to smell of drains. The smell of damp within the room was possibly not helped by the fact that the wash basin was located in the middle of the carpeted bedroom - meaning that over time residents would have dropped lots of water onto the floor in the course of washing and shaving.
The duvet supplied was very thin (see comments about cold above), and then were a couple of nasty looking brown stains on the duvet cover when I first pulled back the linen!
The state of the flooring on the landings within the property is also pretty dire. Once again, carpets are threadbare and the floors are warped, uneven and incredibly 'creaky' meaning that one is regularly disturbed in the early hours by folk passing up and down the corridors.
I know that the cost of the room was reasonably modest (I paid £61 per night for a double room), but I do not think that it is unreasonable to expect cleanliness and a decent nights sleep.
I wouldn't stay here again unless without other options.
Upgraded to an executive double. And the other reviews are right: all you get a bathrobe and some bottled water :(
No air con so room was quite hot and the windows can only open two inches so not alot you can do there.
Nice on first appearances but as you delv in its not so great.
Shower is tiny (hard to pick up your shampoo without getting jammed in the shower.
But location is good, staff are friendly and helpful and it wasnt that expensive.
I got what I paid for!
Clean and comfortable central London hotel. Good budget choice.
Summary
I found that my requirements were met at this hotel in Bayswater. I needed to stay over after a concert in Hammersmith (easy bus route 27 straight there from Kensington) and had an early start for work in the morning. 24hr concierge desk with friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room, no problems. I don't think it is great value for money though. For just shy of £50 I got a small single room, bathroom and loo en suite but hand basin integral to the room. Tea and coffee making in the room, but the price didn't include a breakfast, so I think I could have found a better deal elsewhere. I will certainly look for a better deal, but if it can't be found, I would stay here again, and have to pack my own milk and cereal :-)
Summary
The stay started well with a very friendly welcome from the Reception Staff. I was travelling with my adult son and we booked two single rooms as the price was not unreasonable when set against a twin double. However we did swap rooms when I found that my single room was tiny and very basic (not good value) but his was large, comfortable and very satisfactory. Age has its privileges! Facilities needed updating (cracks in shower and basin in both rooms) but they were both clean, warm and surprisingly quiet. We didn't sample the food as it looked pricey so I can't comment on that. I'd definitely use the Hotel again.
Summary
Delay accessing room on arrival due to no record of booking, but room appeared within 20 minutes. Accommodation comfortable and warm. Floorboards in lobby and in room above very noisy. Easy access from Underground with good selection of eating places closeby.
Summary
The hotel service is good. The room I stayed needs to be fixed. The floor gave cracking sound wherever I walk around this little space.

Summary
The room was of good size, location was not bad. The room was fairly clean with exception of a hair ball stuck in one of the central heaters and the stained curtains. The shower head was broken and another guest had access to the room I was staying at. Apart from that- good value for money, would stay here again, but different room, nice, friendly and some what safe enviroment. The staff friendly, appraochable and accommodating.
Summary
The location of the hotel was good (albeit for the weekend closures on the circle, district and hammersmith lines), but the hotel is dated, with peeling paintwork, squeaky floorboards, and beds so short even at 5'6 my feet were resting on the wall. If you don't actually want to sleep whilst in town it's fine!
Summary
I stayed for a night. The room is spacious and in good condition. better than my expectation with the value price. WIll stay again..!
Summary
The hotel is superficailly attractive, but needs a décor update. Plenty of noise can also be heard (creaking florrboards, noisy corridors). It is quite expensive for what you get, but is undeniably central and handy (for Bayswater tube station). The main plus point is the efficient, friendly and professional staff.
Summary
As I booked through Late Rooms so got a discounted deal then it was ok. If I had been paying anything near their rate card it would not have been value for money. IN a sentence I would describe the hotel as friendly, goodish customer service masking a tired and dated premises needing almost total revamp in both decor and part structurally and thus alas overpriced. Would be ok if it was charging £60 per night, but this is rip off London so I think its rate card for standard double was £175!!.
Summary
A very friendly hotel in a nice area. Staff were excellent and very helpful.
The room was quite comfortable although I found it very hot and the window could only be opened lightly with a wooden wedge to hold it open.
Stones throw from Hyde Park, closest to Queensway tube station with easy access into central london. Room was clean, but could maybe do with a bit of redecoration. Decent shower and good sized bathroom, and an excellent breakfast. Really good value for money.
Summary
I have stayed at the Umi many times in the past. The hotel staff are very friendly and easy to deal with, especially the reception staff who are very helpful. The rooms are basic and some look a bit tired, but all rooms I have stayed in are well equipped and clean. I have had breakfast and dinner in the hotel and the food is good. I was surprised that breakfast wasn't included in my latest booking as in the past I have paid less and breakfast was included.
Summary
Lovely comfy bed , quiet hotel, excellent location.
Summary
Good location, 4 stops from Oxford circus direct on the central line, bang in the heart of Notting Hill so good food and shops on your door step, room was clean but bathroom was very basic and needed updating however for the cost it was great value for money.
Summary
Great value, good location and very good service.
Summary
Umi is fine for a short stay at low cost, tucked away in a quiet square The room was clean and larger than others in this range, everything worked (good shower!) The staff were very welcoming and reception has a easy atmosphere with papers and internet access... The only slight downside is that as an old building, obviously partitioned to create more little rooms, it is noisy from the movement of the other guests. Nonetheless a great little B&B in a good spot
Summary
I will use it again - if I need to stay in London again
Summary
In furnishing terms a little frayed at the edges, in an area of which much the same could be said, this hotel offered very friendly and efficient service, excellent coffee, and a quiet night's sleep - something which a larger collection of rating stars cannot always guarantee. Maybe it's because I lived in London in the '60s, but the town, even in its 'better' areas, seems a little tired these days - rather like an aging Grande Dame who, while she can still squeeze into her ball gown, fails to notice that the moths had got there first.
Summary
This could be a great hotel but for poor staff training and very badly put together rooms e.g. Curtains too short to cover windows letting in street light and preventing restful sleep.
Summary
Excellent location, clean and efficiently run.
Good value for money for London, particulary as it is so near to lively Notting Hill.
One small point - new carpets would make it look less tired in places.
I have a single room and stayed for a night on New Year's Eve. There was a very thin blanket provided on the bed that you can see through which was disappointing given it was the middle of winter with temperatures at 1 ºC outside. No blanket in the dresser unfortunately. Even though the room has a heater on, it was so stuffy that I had to open the window to let some air in. i was cold in the middle of the night with this thin blanket so I had to cover myself with my overcoat to sleep. The sink in the toilet needs to be replaced ASAP. It is the old fashioned kind with a tap for hot and cold so you either get burned with steaming hot water or freeze with the cold water. The sink is dirty with rust on the string for the rubber stopper so there's no way I want to fill the sink with water to wash my face. The best part is the shower which is strong and hot. I was disappointed overall with the experience even though the front desk people are nice and friendly.
Summary
Hotels in London for me are somewhere to leave my bag and for me to crash down at the end of the night. I don't eat in the hotel restaurants or drink at the hotel bar or use any facilities apart from my room and the Umi Hotel in Bayswater/Paddington is perfect. £50 for a single ensuite room, which is quite spacious, clean and secure. Superb! What else do you need? This is my first port of call when searching for a room close to Paddington for a night out.
Summary
Off-beat, very pleasant. I stayed during the freezing weather but my room was as warm as toast.
Summary
I'd don't travel a lot and never have much money when I so, so am extremely picky about the places I book to make the most of the experience, and short-listed the Umi before I made my final decision and then returned to my choice after a week or so of constant let-downs with other greater priced hotels at an even greater distances from central London. I have to say I didn't regret my decision.
My mother and I paid £65 a night (we try not to pay over £70 in London, but it's difficult) and stayed for 2 nights and I have to say I wasn't disappointed given the other choices and at this time of year - we stayed 29th November-1st December, which is a nutty, expensive time of year for London. The exterior of the hotel was appealing in an area of otherwise rough-looking hotels, many of which I had considered. The constant stream of guests, including a coach load of students, reassured me this was a popular choice. The reception and bar/eating areas are tidy and professional. Anyone I spoke to on the front reception was extremely polite, courteous and more than helpful, even jokey.
We stayed on the ground floor, in a standard room, which do differ from the posh photographs on most sites, which must be deluxe rooms, but not by much. The twin (single) beds were comfortable enough (we didn't need anything bigger), the main room was as tidy as most large chain hotels provide, the facilties were good, include a nice flat screen tv with plenty of channels, coffee/tea making facilities which were updated every day and a hairdryer. The hotel also provides plenteous magazines about the place.
The only let-downs, if you're particularly finicky, were: 1) the rough edges in the en-suite bathroom; this was a room that definitely needs updating, particularly the piece of carpet between the rooms, as we were constantly tripping over it. There were a few paint splashes on the tiles and the lino was a little worn. 2) The door to the room was old and stuck, but could be closed with some force. 3) Because we were on the bottom floor fairly near to reception you could hear people early in the morning stomping to breakfast (but to be fair, considering we weren't far from the lift, we didn't hear that at all. I think I'd prefer to be on the ground floor, as monst London hotels are notorious for small lifts so we avoided this issue).
We didn't eat here because of personal choice, so I'm afraid I can't tell you much about that, but the price and choice appeared good.
I never have much money for London and wasn't sure about this hotel, but for the money it was a great last-minute find. It was cheap, comfortable, reassuring, warm and friendly, as well as accessible for central London; we walked it in 20 minutes and the tube only took about 10 minutes with a 5 minute walk from Queensway. Hyde Park is right on the doorstep, with some wonderfully visual churches right before that. I would recommend this hotel for those who don't mind an odd rough edge, as the positives more than make up for any negatives. I didn't rate it high on family friendly simply because of the dangerous carpet, but this probably doesn't apply to other rooms.
Very helpful at reception. A very small old style room. Good value
Nicely situated
I would have liked to see internet connection charges to be less or included as free but overall, the hotel was a typical three star. The room was quiet, very clean, warm, and while there are no amenities really that stand out, the bathroom towels for when you shower were extra large and thick, a delight to use. The best part of the hotel is its location if you want to use it as a base of operations and conduct day trips to central London or the surrounding area.
