there is no way the quality of the room is worth the advertised price. The decor was awful and the room was very minimalistic and in need of refurb. I had to move rooms because although my room was said to be non smoking, it smelt very smoky. The food was very overpriced and they had run out of most things when I arrived so I had to have a salad. Overall I dont think this hotel should be allowed to advertise itself as 4 star. On a positive note the staff were helpful.

The room was long and thin and, because the pull out bed had been put up for our daughter, we could not get to the window without climbing!
The temperature of the air conditioning could not be adjusted and was not particularly cooling.
There was no plug for the sink, but this was remedied while we were out, as was the need for extra towels for our daughter.
All in all an OK stay: thought breakfast was on the pricey side (not being included in the room fee), but it was at least good.

Hotel receptionist said they had not received Laterooms booking, but honoured the terms without hesitation. Maybe just as well that they had 10 unsold rooms at the time. Busy tourist hotel very near Buckingham Palace/Victoria Station. Noisy early evening in the immediate bar area, but also a large quieter area of seating near reception. Room rate was good value compared to similarly rated hotels. Nice enough evening meal in the hotel restaurant where the staff were pleasant and service was prompt.

If this was any else than London i'd have been a bit dissapointed with the hotel but i must have stayed in over 20 hotels in London and never found one that i would consider good value for money - even using Late Rooms.
The rooms are a bit tired looking, a bit of mold in the bathroom, well used beds. Otherwise standard chain fare.
Good points: Our room was quiet, good quality tv, good location.

While the location, size of the rooms and the views were excellent, the condition and reception customer service experience left a lot to be desired.
We arrived with luggage, a toddler and a baby so we asked reception if we could have some help with the luggage - we were told no as porters don't work between 6-8pm. The receptionist having decided it was too difficult to resolve the issue then proceeded to ignore us and served someone else while we were mid-conversation! When we asked why she had done that she replied 'oh, i thought we had finished the conversation' - we asked for the manager who got a porter to help us. The porter was very nice, helpful and friendly.
The rooms are tired and dirty - the walls could do with a repaint, the carpets were black with dust in some areas and could do with a steam clean.
The cold water tap in the kitchen didn't work, the hot water tap worked but only cold water came out? When we spoke to reception about this she said we didn't know how to use the taps properly...amazing then that we had no problem operating the taps in the bathroom.
There was a broken glass lamp in one of the bedrooms - we had to clean up the shards of glass ourselves. The double bed was so lumpy with age we slept in the single beds.
There was an iron but no ironing board.
We had a travel cot brought up with no bedding - we ended up using towels as bedding.
We moved onto a different hotel the next day which was just as expensive but it was wonderful.
We've stayed in much cheaper hotels that were better than The Thistle - very shabby and not worth the 150 odd pounds we spent on it.

Although staff were very helpful and friendly, the hotel was a bit grim. Third bed in our room (for 3 people) was a sofa bed with a very old and used and dirty looking mattres. Room was very stuffy. Altogether, it felt as though we were sleeping in someone's house that hadn't been cleaned in ages - and all for 70+ per person....(3 of us!).
I wouldn't choose this hotel again.

I booked a family room which was advertised as being able to accomodate 3 adults and 3 children up to 12 years of age. Indeed the room had 2 double beds and 1 sofa bed but they were stuffed in a double sized room with no walking space in the room. I was very disappointed with the size of the room. The entrance to the room was long and narrow and I struggled to get the push chair in and out of the room. The location was well suited to my needs but the room chosen was not good value for money.

A most disappointing stay for a 4 star hotel. I expected much more.
Our allocated room was not ready on arrival and I was allocated another room of the same standard. The room was booked for 3 people and on arrival there were insufficient towels and tea and coffee provisions and cups only for two people. There was no hot water in our room on arrival and we were told this would be sorted out later that evening as there had been a heating problem. Hot water was not available in our room until the following morning. We were not able to take a shower / bath in the evening after being drenched at the Queens Garden Party earlier that day. The manager said he would try and get us another room to shower in and would get to me by 1930 hrs - this did not materialise.
On the plus side, the hotel porter was very helpful and informative and the hotel is very well located for central London.
At the check-in there were problems in that my booking hadn't been transferred to the check-in system so I was kept waiting for quite some time while they sorted out the problem.
In the evening I chose to go the restaurant for a meal - a bit of a disaster really. I was left waiting a long time before a waitress asked for my order. with my food, I asked for a gin and tonic and was eventually given Sloe Gin, which when I queried it - the waitress went off and brought the bottle to prove it was gin! She assured me that was the only gin they served (not so on looking at the bar on leaving the restaurant). My main course arrived, minus one element - when I queried where it was - she told me she thought I didn't want it - it had never even been discussed.
At the end of the meal I sought out the duty manager to provide feedback - he did apologise but explained they were unusually busy that night and their normal standards had slipped. Bearing in mind that half the population were watching the Michael Jackson memorial on TV the restaurant seemed quite empty to me.
Breakfast next morning was equally very poor - overcooked and cold food, not a great experience all in all.

There were 2 light bulbs not working and we were unable to use the safe. Both were reported to the Receptionist on our departure as we were not too inconvenienced with this as there were other bulbs in the room that we could swap around. The hairdryer was not conveniently placed as it was in a dark corner of the room and would have been better near the dressing table/desk where there was sufficient lighting or in the bathroom. The bar was only open until midnight, other hotels we have stayed usually stay open later for residents.

We arrived at the hotel and were offered an upgrade for an additional 20 for the night -which meant a 'suite' and dressing gowns and slippers. This was OK although the gowns were very flimsy and rough. The soap dish on the wall in the bathroom was dirty and only one bath towel was in the room. The shower nad bath water was lukewarm only -we idnt have time on our first evening to query tihs and thought it would be a one off. It was the same the next morning which was really disappointing. When we checked out and queried this the duty manager said she had had to call maintenance people out the previous night to correct the problem but we thought it would have been common courtesy to inform us. After checking out I returned to the hotel because I had left an (expensive) umbrella in the room. The receptionist said the housekeeping team had left for the day and the only 'housekeeper' on sight didnt speak enough english to understand what I was asking so I would have to wait until the next day and speak to someone else. Having returned home that didnt help me and the umbreall has not been located.

The hotel looks pretty uninviting from the outside but is oK once you get through the door. Great location within 5 minutes of St James Park. Service desk was very slow but polite and apologetic. Room on a busy road with bus stop outside yet not too noisy due to good double glazing. Bathroom uninspiring but adequate. Lucky I stayed on a cool summer night because no possibility of opening a window and no sign of functioning air conditioning. Two double beds in room and quite comfortable. Could be Ok for families. Only real negative was the maid walking in unannounced which could have been embarrassing .

We booked a package of bed, breakfast and evening meal and were treated like second rate citizens in the restaurant although the front of house staff more than made up for the unfriendliness of the staff in the restaurant - very pleasant and friendly. Our rooms had been overbooked so we were offered one of their apartments where we had amazing views over London - excellent ! It was a good location near Victoria tube station and we found it very easy - there were adequate bars and shops nearby and it was very convenient for our threatre trip to see Billy Elliott. Wouldn't hesitate to book again

Stayed on Friday 20th, 2 couples, nearby rooms on 2nd floor 222/227. Booked package to include B&B + evening meal 99/per room. Well worth it!
Arrived very early, 10.30am, however the receptionist was very happy to check us in to rooms. Normally from 2pm is normal check in time. Also allowed us to park in their basement although this is charged at 30/night (but we left car there till 7pm on sat with no additional cost). The hotel and the surrounding streets are not subject to the congestion charge either so you can drive to it any day. Basement is a bit tight for manoeuvring but is secure and the concierge will open the doors when asked.
Receptionist as said was very pleasant, helpful and courteous. Check in was quick and straight forward. Reception area quite nice, clean tidy etc. Check out was quick too.
Room 222 was ok, not overly spacious, stuff you expect, double bed, desk, tv, hairdryer, couple chairs, tea/coffee tray. The room has double glazed windows which can be opened, handy as was very hot during stay. Room has air con unit although it was a little noisy and didnt cool down particularly well. Was able to leave window open as overlooked a small side road so not much traffic noise. (Didn't go in room 227 but was told it was exact same as 222. Did have bit of problem with key card for 227 but got it replaced no probs then it worked fine.)
Bathroom was clean, shower over bath, wc, sink. The shower was surprisingly powerful, though the wife said that the water went a little hot, then cold a few times. I had no problems. Overall was clean and didnt show signs of age that I would have expected.
Had evening meal in with package so ate at restaurant on Friday night. Was able to choose starter and main, or main and dessert from full menu. Quality of food was excellent, staff were very good. Menu overall had good choice though had we been paying for evening meal separate would have probably gone elsewhere as it is a bit on the expensive side (starter approx 5, main 15, dessert 5) and there were lots of other restaurants in the area. We had Lamb Knuckle, (2) Rump Steak & Sea Bass and they were all excellent. Good sized portions and cooked perfectly.
Also used the restaurant for breakfast, usual cereal, cheese, croissants, full English choices as most B&B provide. Good selection, kept warm and regularly checked to be full. Service again very good.
Overall very pleased with hotel, would definitely recommend staying here. Was in excellent location, 2 min walk to Victoria tube, bus and trains. 5 min walk to Buckingham Palace, and for the price paid was really good value.
As a late booking the hotel was lovely. I was upgraded to an executive room which was perfect for me for a two day business trip. The hotel let themselves down in that they didnt explain the dinner, bed and breakfast package to me properly (even after asking twice) which left me with a disagreement over a dinner charge on checking out.

Easy to get to from Victoria Station with a very good shopping centre and restaurants nearby. Our room and in particular the bedding was crisp & clean. Unfortunately our brief stay was overshadowed from the outset by the fact that the hotel had no record of our having booked via LateRooms. Check-in was consequently lengthy and somewhat embarrassing as we tried to persuade the desk clerk that we really were expected! We had booked a package with Dinner included which again proved embarrassing as halfway through the meal the waitress accosted us and demanded to have our proof that dinner was included. I had to leave the table in order to go off and find our booking confirmation. It was like Faulty Towers! Our room was fabulous, the hotel is in a great location, the food was good with a great buffet breakfast, we had a great bargain rate - but sadly the trip was spoiled by poor customer service [one member of staff was particularly rude!], all occasioned by the fact that the hotel had no record of our booking and didn't know what to do about it. LateRooms need to improve the speed with which bookings are confirmed with the hotel - next day is simply not on for one night stays!

The hotel is very well positioned to Victoria Station so if you need to access the station it is perfect. They kindly upgraded me when I got there and I asked for a quiet room which I got.
The room was incredibly hot with no temperature control, instead they had a portable air conditioning unit but this was very noisy so couldn't be left on at night. Also, the unit had a air vent out of the window so it was hard to close the curtains round it.
Hotel is in a good location but we had to change rooms three times because the air con wasnt working and the rooms were very hot. They brought us a fan to start with!!!! This was in Jan 08. We paid for an upgraded room eventually however this was next to the chambermaids room and service lift; we were woken early by the noise from here.
Hotel lobby is light and airy with seating and newspapers but lacks any atmosphere. I think it is geared up for business not leisure guests. We will not be returning.

We were thoroughly disappointed with the hotel. The room did not warrant a 4 star rating. The bathroom fan was on permanently and extremely loud. The bath tap constantly dripped. The air conditioning was not working at all, which was a major disappointment because this was a major factor why we chose the hotel.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Its only benefit is its location. which is close to Buckingham Palace. It was just disgusting inside and looked like it hadn't been redecorated since the 60s. The beds were well past it and I could feel the springs through the matress. The whole place smelled musty and even though I was in a non-smoking room it still smelled of smoke. Don't waste your money staying here.

Considering this is meant to be a four star hotel, we were shocked! The reception area was welcoming but as soon as we got into the lift we had a completely different experience. The hotel is in desperate need of a revamp. The corridors and hotel rooms were dark with limited natural light. The UHT milk was off which takes some doing as they last for years. Our friends requested a non-smoking room but were given a smoking one. Both have allergies so asked if they could move. They were then moved to another smoking room! On the third attempt they were given a non-smoking room. We were woken up twice before 9.45am on Sunday by housekeeping which is not adequate at all. We are early risers but had a late night and so this was definitely not appreciated. We also phoned for room service, which is meant to be 24 hours, and did not receive anything. Also, our friends accidently left a new white shirt in their room which the hotel is saying is not there. They are still waiting for someone to get back to them but they have little hope of seeing their shirt again. The hotel surved it's purpose of giving us a bed for the night but we definitely would not go back there again or recommend it. I thought we had a good deal considering it is meant to be a four star hotel but I guess we got what we paid for. I love your website though and will definitely be using that again. Sorry for all the moans - it's was my 30th birthday and meant to be something special. Still we had a good laugh about it on the way home!
