Generally good - but few issues

The general hotel is very nice, modern and comfortable. However, the restaurant in the hotel is a very poor standard. For the first time, I experienced a customer rant and rage over the quality of food and the 60 minute wait. They seem very under-staffed throughout the whole hotel. Long waits in the bar/lounge as well as the restaurant.

Poor choice

I was very disappointed with this hotel. For the money it cost it represents poor value for money, only slightly preferable to a cardboard box a Biffa Waste skip.
There was no kettle in the room, with the suggestion to instead go to the bar for a £3.75 latte. The decor was a time warp of the 1970's and the signs directing you around the hotel are non-existent. The car parking is poor also, particularly when the hotel was busy. There is additional parking around the back but it's a long walk to the reception. Do yourself a favour and choose something else, like the back seat...

We chose this hotel for its location and price - excellent value for money. We were picking up our daughter from Heathrow and decided to stay an extra night so that we could visit central London. As the hotel was only 5 minutes from terminal 5 it was so easy to catch the Picadilly line from there. There was even free public transport to the terminal every 20 minutes bus stop very close to hotel. If you are travelling light I would recommend this rather than pay for the Hoppa bus. Hotel staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. There is a lovely little pub just a 10 minute walk from the hotel, good food and cheerful bar staff. You don't usually get this facility close to an airport. I would definitely stay there again. Rooms a little tired but clean and comfortable. Refurbishment is about to begin. Ticks all the boxes for an airport stopover.

The hotel is in a great location, very close to the airport, literally 5 minutes by cab. The building and the equipments a bit old but it was a perfect value for 50 pounds per night for a double bedroom and the restaurant exceeded every expectations the food was absolutely delicious for reasonable price also.

Thistle Hotel was good except for the taxi driver who dropped me off

The hotel was good and offered a fine service. Unfortunately the taxi driver took a rather circuitous route from Terminal 3 to the hotel and charger me £18. In the early morning the next day for the return trip the fare was only £10,
It is experiences like these that leave you with a bad taste in your mouth and Iwould appreciate it if details of a complaint service was made available (it was a black hackney, after all)

Happy hols

We stayed here as we were flying to Amsterdam Christmas day for a few days.I have a broken leg and the hotel COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR ME.
The hotel manager personally visited my room upon arrival to ask if I needed anything. He is a darling.
Will stay there again. All staff were so helpful and the hotel runs like clockwork. The staff all seem like a close knit family.
FANTASTIC X

Would not reccommend anyone stay here

Room was extremely dated, cracked walls, very dated bed coverings, extremely uncomfortable bed and was extremely far from the front desk and from what I could tell, lacking an elevator. There were many fire doors to open that were difficult to do while carrying luggage. Cell service was impossible to receive and when I tried to use a 'collect' service from the room, I was not informed that I was going to be charged 2.50 Pounds each time I attempted the call, the first of which didn't even go through. Also, the only reason I stayed here was because it was close to Heathrow, but it not only was not close to the underground (15 pound cab) but it also was not close to the terminal (15 pound cab).

A soulless over-priced box, lacking in character

Once I made it past the flashy (and busy) reception desk, the room itself was small and lacking in character. Also lacking were any tea and coffee making facilities, which would have been very welcome since we left early for a flight the following morning. car parking was an additional £10 on top of the room cost, which didn't come to light until after the booking was confirmed. the only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it's near to the airport.

Not brilliantly sound proofed - you get what you pay for

I cannot fault the cleanliness or the customer service but the building is not adequately sound-proofed so you definitely hear the planes go overhead. That said, you get what you pay for and I would stay there again if there were no other options of equivalent prices. I wouldn't recommend it as a first choice or for anything other than a cheap overnight stay before a very early flight in the morning.

Convenient location, good quality room

Nice sized room on ground floor. Very helpful reception staff. Convenient location, only 5 mins from terminal 5 and has shuttle buses that run to all terminals (although these weren't too reliable when I stayed). Only complaint was that there were no tea or coffee facilities in the room. Every other possible facility was there but this! Booking was room only but booked breakfast as an extra. Restaurant opens early (from 6 am even at the weekend) and was a great range of options available.
Convenient for Central London. Tube runs straight into Kings Cross/st Pancras from Terminal 5

A truly AWFUL hotel: terrible damp infests the buildings.

The room was more like a small, airless cell. Hermetically sealed, no fresh air has apparently entered this room in a very long time.
I was very annoyed to be awoken at 1am by noise from the room opposite - in that room the dam was so bad that the guests were evacuated - the aircon was turned on and the door left open to try and improve matters.
All this achieved was merely to pump the musty smell into the hallway, and the noise of the clunky old aircon woke me up.
The fabric of the building is so poor that I did not - as a direct result of this - manage to get a good night's sleep, which with an late arrival and an early start was all I wanted and was paying for.
Do not go to the Thistle at Heathrow if you can possibly avoid it.

Overnight stay before trip to Wembley

The reduced priced looked fabulous at 80% off but in reality it brought the cost down to a reasonable deal - breakfast always seems to be extra. The room and en-suite looked a bit dated and in need of refurbishment but it was very clean and the bed comfortable. Phone didn't work though but not an issue for the one time I needed it. Shower ok and when I reached the breakfast room - which was a bit of a trek - the breakfast was more than adequate.

Makeover desperately needed!

Room desperately needs a make over. Peeling wallpaper, stained carpet, mouldy bathroom floor. On arrival, room was very cold. You have to put the fan on once you get their, very noisy and ugly machine but it soon heated the room up. The bathroom smelt of drains, the toliet didn't flush properly. A really busy and noisy hotel, could hear everything from the room next door, including them using the toliet! The reception area is very nice, staff friendly and carried my suitcase to my room. Food seemed fairly expensive and after reading previous reviews on the food I decided to get a macdonalds from across the road. Very close to heathrow airport.

Did not meet my expectations

This hotel was not what I was expecting. I would say that the room was in need of revamping, but having said that, the room felt clean and the bed was comfortable.
It might be that my expectations were set to high before arrival. The reservation was made on the basis of a deal through laterooms whereby the rate was reduced from £300 to £50. I felt £50 was more appropriate - had I been charged £300 for the room I would have felt seriously ripped off!
I'd stay again, as it's handy for the airport - but I'd not stay longer than necessary and would not pay more than £50 for the room.

There was no proper cental heating, only a wall heater which wasn't on when we arrived considering the outside temperature was minus 2 degrees. It would have been helpful if the room could have been heated prior to our arrival. Also the heater was so noisy it was impossible to sleep with it on, so we froze overnight.
