When we arrived for check in at pm...
When we arrived for check in at 1.40pm, told room not available until 2pm(thats ok as this is official check in time) but when approached reception desk again we were told room not ready until 2.30pm. We were most annoyed as we have travelled for more than 24hours. To compensate for this we were given a drink from the bar. Another problem was there was no safe in room, we complained about this as we are international travellers who need a safe for passports, etc. We were told they were all taken, but insisted we have one. A short time later a safe arrived. We are a couple with 1 child and the room had 3 single beds which we found odd. The room was very small and the bathroom was very very small. Other than those problems we found the accommodation clean, good location overlooking Hyde Park.

The hotel is easy to find. It is about 5 mins walk from the tube station. You have to go in the lift to reception. The lifts are very slow. The reception staff were not very welcoming.
Our room was on the 7th floor facing the gardens. The room was a triple room, which was not good as a family. It was very small. The bathroom was extremely small and there was bearly enough room to bath a child.
The room also suffered badly from road traffic noise which is more obvious at night. Please be aware that if you book room only the hotel charge 14.99 each for breakfast.
There are hotels which offer better value for money than this.

We booked this hotel because of its proximity to Hyde Park, where we were seeing Peter Pan, so its position was ideal for us. The hotel is clean & staff are friendly & helpfull. Our room was on the small side for three of us (with an extra bed & huge double), but as we were only basically sleeping there this didn't matter to us. The room itself was a little tired - peeling & discoloured wallpaper & fittings showing their age, but it was clean & definitely not shabby. There is a petrol station on the forecourt of the hotel & being on the main road there is constant traffic noise throughout the night ( we were on the 7th floor). I have to say this didn't bother us in the slightest & we looked out onto the park, with a fantastic view. Parking on site is a Godsend & for London, quite reasonable - we paid 40 to basically forget the car for two days, plus the hotel is extremely straightforward to get to from the M40. Didn't eat in the hotel, so can't comment on the food.
We would certainly stay here again, we paid 161 for three of us for one night, which I think is excellent value given the quality & position of the hotel.

Getting to the place was easy enough, once I realised that the entrance is at the side of the building, due the front taken up by a petrol station.
Rooms were small, however, booking through laterooms got me around 60% discount so was worth it.
I don't think I would pay the full price for a room here, there are far better hotels in the area that fit that price mark, but the discounted prices are an attractive option

ive stayed at many 3 star hotel in London, which are then in reality 2 star - I have always found the Thistle chain good value for money with good food. Myself and 2 children paid 99 per night for a room and breakfast, which for London is very good - I could have easily have paid double that and not got any better room, food or facilities. Location great in between 2 tube stations and opposite the park (very near the large play area if you have small kids). The room wasnt perfect, but fine - I cant stand people that moan about a small mark on the wall or a slightly loose tap when they have paid the amount of money we paid!

The outside of this hotel isn't good (bit concrete jungle) but as soon as you arrive in reception it all changes.
Fabulous inside, and we were upgraded and our room was fantatic. Very clean and all working fine. We used the bar and this was really nice (could have done with being a bit warmer) and the restaurant looked good, but was quiet.
Breakfast was fabulous, with a choice of loads of hot or cold items ~ everyone would find something they liked. The hot food was well cooked and hotter than a lot of places I have eaten because it was kept on a proper warmer. I can easily see that you might have to wait for a breakfast table because the restaurant isn't that big, but we were lucky.
Easy access from the tube about 2-3 minutes away ~ and there were loads of places to eat and buy stuff if necessary very close by.
It seemed understaffed ~ I think this would be my only critism. Everytime you wanted something, the staff weren't there (bar & consierge) but the other staff soon found them and the issue was resolved. The breakfast staff were a bit thin on the ground too, but the service was very good generally.
I would highly recommend it but not sure that 4* is a true reflection ~ I think they need more staff to obtain this rating. The staff were fabulous but the hotel just needed a few more of them.
We were on the 7th floor and had a fabulous view of Hyde Park and the City. To be honest couldn't really fault it and for the money I would say it was fabulous value.

The Thistle Kensington Gardens was without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stopped at anywhere in the world.
The hotel had no hot water and we were told at various times that this was due to a broken boiler and / or too many guests having had a shower at the same time. We were assured that it had been fixed when we came back on the Sunday morning but this was not true.
One of our party was offered an upgraded room, you can imagine their surprise then when they discovered that their upgraded room had in fact been vacated by another member of our party only a short while earlier because so many of the facilities were either broken or dirty.
There was only one towel in the room despite the booking being for two people. One of my party had to go down to get some toiletries and toilet paper for his room.
The sinks in everyones rooms were partially blocked (which was lucky as some rooms did not have plugs).
We tried to get the hotel to book at taxi for us on the Saturday night but the Concierge could not be found so we were told we would be better off trying to get one in the street.
When I tried to talk to the Duty Manager on the Sunday morning no one could find him and it was only after breakfast that we managed to track him down. The receptionist was very apologetic but had no success getting him to answer his main phone or mobile phone.
We did manager to secure a 40% discount on the accommodation, but to be honest I think the hotel should have paid us for staying there.
I checked in late (11.30pm) and was offered an upgrade from standard double to deluxe twin, but warned that the room had no shower curtain. The 'deluxe' element was hard to find. The room smelt and even though on the 8th floor, very noisy from the Bayswater Rd below and cold. The bathroom was in very poor condition, no 'grill' in the sink so you looked straight into the drainpipe; no shower curtain (as warned); chips in the bath and old seal/grout; the wastebin was full of someone else's waste (hence the smell, perhaps) and although this was removed on request, I then found that the towels on the bath were wet, and the bath mat had footprints on it. There were no other rooms available. In mitigation, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast very good, desk staff were helpful and polite, and a discount was offered on check-out for the poor quality of room. But I would have preferred not to have had to complain in the first place.

Thank goodenss we only paid late rooms rates for our one night stay, we would have been gutted if we had paid the full price. We had a standard double room, and luckily it was a flying visit, as the room was small and unimpressive. The room was clean, but was more like a basic hotel than a place that could command such high prices. The marketing manager for the hotel should get a medal for creative writing and the photos have been very well selected to show only the best bits. Overall we felt that the hotel was ok, but certainly not somewhere you would go for a luxurious and spacious romantic get away!

The hotel is above a petrol station which might put some people off (not us!) but the reception service was great & friendly (we got 2 upgrades) and the rooms were clean and reasonably sized by London standards.
My only gripe would be that the restaurant is really a bit small to cope with the peak demands. The woodwork in the hotel, lifts and room was shabby and could do with a rub down and a coat of varnish. The lifts are extremely small. The entrance to the hotel is down a side street, there is a big sign post on the main road but is in front of a petrol station. The rooms were clean but there was no iron as stated on the itinery and the hairdryer was not near a mirror!!! One of the rooms I booked had no door on the wardrobe (this was a smoking room) and no iron or trouser press. Another room I booked was a smoking room even though I requested 3 non-smoking. I was not advised this when I checked in. Had to wait 20 minutes to be seated at breakfast and when I was seated I had lipstick on my coffee mug which was filthy at the bottom (all the mugs on my table were different!), I had to ask the waiter for toast twice as he forgot and was not offered any tea or coffee - I had to ask. Hotel reception staff were very helpful and friendly however the stay was let down by an extremely shabby and tired looking room. The bathroom smelt of urine and the basin was chipped. Mould growing in corners of bath/shower. Bed was lumpy with springs poking through and pillows were uncomfortable lumps of foam. No mini bar. All in all a lousy room!

As we had requested a twin room we were upgraded to a room with a king size bed and an interconnecting door to a double room. However the rooms were small, the wallpaper ripped off the wall in places and the windows did not shut properly and despite no smoking one room definately smelt smoky. However for the price charged under late rooms we were pleased but would definately not pay the full price of over 200. The hotel was easy to find, friendly and very clean and the breakfast was delicious - so overall very good for the late room price.

Very shabby hotel not up to the usual standard of the Thistle brand. On checking out we complained that our non-smoking roon smelled of smoke, that the toilet did not flush and that the bathroon door didn't close but the receptionist seemed indifferent and did not, for example offer, any reduction on the room rate or any other form of ex gratia offer.
Overall...very poor

An enjoyable stay. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was good. The restaurant is relatively small which created some difficulty at breakfast.
The hotel is to be extended and the existing rooms refurbished.

The value for money question is a bit misleading - as I got the room at an excellent rate through Late Rooms. However, if I had been paying the full rate for the hotel, I would have been disappointed. The hotel is quite tired looking - and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. However, I reported this in the morning and it was noted by the staff. I felt that they would actually address it. So not the smartest hotel I have stayed in - but the staff were friendly and helpful, which was a plus. I would probably try to find another hotel through Late Rooms rather than this one - but for the very low price I paid, it was okay.

The rooms are nothing like those shown in the photos. The actual room was exceedingly small, with the bed squeezed against the wall and with grubby, dark wallpaper and in need of a full refurb.
At the Laterooms rate, VFM is adequate, similar to Travelodge etc.
I was extremely disappointed as, being a special treat for my wife, I was expecting the standard of a normal rate 200.00 room. This was definately not worth 200.00.
Location is good, which is the only reason I would recommend it to anyone.
Really nice place to stay. Only negative point was the breakfast. Well cooked, loads of choice but I think the chef had bought a job lot of salt and felt the need to put as much as possible in the food.

The hotel was ok. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and the water was hot. It wasn't the easiest place in the world to find however and anyone travelling by tube would be best off going to Queensway as this is a very close station NOT Paddington as is suggested elsewhere! The restaurant area was nice but the cooked breakfast was on the cold side of warm and so not really the best start to a busy day - perhaps this is why the other patrons appeared to be opting for the continental option, they'd learnt from previous days. It wasn't a bad hotel, it just wasn't a great.
