Hotel was in a a great location and surprisingly quiet . The room size was dissappointingly small however an upgrade was offered for an extra 160.

There are always immediate sign you are staying somewhere in the top end of the market. An attentive doorman, hall staff standing almost to attention giving the feeling of presence, well dressed, well spoken reception teams. This place had it all. Immediately calming from the moment you step through the door, leaving the frenetic St James St behind you.
No chinzy vases and furniture in the lobby, all antiques and originals. Room was smaller than the major chains, but the attention to design was superb. Again original art and furniture, BOSE audio system, full marble bathroom that you could almost imagine the building groaning under the weight of, dressed with fine accessories from Floris. Abundance of fluffy white towels, large fridge stocked with complementary mineral water (and plenty of space for your own purchases).
The food was excellent (suprised to discover that the 19 Stafford Burger was actually good value for money considering the quality of the meat and accompaniments).
Improvements? i-Pod dock and DVD player would be welcomed, as would the option of a tea/coffee station. Apart from that, brilliant.
Staff very polite and friendly, room bit less than what I would expect from a 5* place, no iron/ironing board, no tea & coffee facilities, quite a limited room service menu. Bathroom very nice tho, and general hotel facilities top notch. Restaurant looked nice, but was only staying for 2 nights and didn't get a chance to try. Worth noting, that bar has strict "blazer" dress code in evening.

What a perfect weekend The Stafford is the...
What a perfect weekend! The Stafford is the epitome of excellent service, staff on hand and helpful but never obsequious from the moment the taxi drew up to the time we left. As might be expected, the hotel oozes class in a genteel Miss Marple kind of way in the main house where we were staying yet there were also 21st century luxuries like Bose sound systems and Floris toiletries in the splendid bathroom. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and with an extremely comfortable bed, one so wide I think the bedside tables had different postcodes, and it was hard to believe one was in such a central location - 3 minutes from Fortnum and Masons and St James Palace - given how tranquil the room was. Located at the end of its own cul de sac, the Stafford is exceptionally quiet. Public rooms were delightful. We had an excellent breakfast in the sumptuous dining room and took an evening meal in the renowned American Bar, a place worthy of its prestigious reputation. We spent more than we would normally do but, having sampled this degree of comfort and service, I don't think my wife would ever forgive me if I suggested we stay anywhere else in London but the Stafford.

Excellent hotel, staff very friendly, we would go there again, only downside was the view (looked out onto the ventilation fans).

I've been working in the hotel industry as...
I've been working in the hotel industry as a manager and developer in USA, Hong Kong, Europe and UK for 30 years at hotels with up to 650 rooms, so perhaps I am too critical sometimes, but I arrived at 2.20pm and still had to wait 10 minutes for my room to be 'ready'. The room was good, very clean, tidy. Dispite being almost raped by the shower curtain (why oh why can't hoteliers get it right with shower curtains, move the rail a couple of inches 'outwards' and stop the curtain attacking the person who only wants a shower !!), the washroom was very clean and well designed. If the house maid had not been knocking on my door at 8.10am on the Sunday morning to ask me if I wanted my room cleaned yet (I was only staying one night), my sleep would have been a bit longer than it otherwise was. Overall, a good and pleasant hotel, but there is no way on earth I'm paying 50 for my wife and I to have breakfast, we waited until lunch time and had lunch at Harrods for almost the same price !!

We decided to have a weekend in London after being given tickets for a show. We booked a standard room and on arrival we were told they had upgraded us to a deluxe. The room was lovely, beautifully furnished and comfortable. It was so peaceful - no traffic at all as it it is up a quiet mews. The staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. We didn't eat there in the evening but the menu looked lovely. We did have breakfast the next day and it was delicious - everything cooked to order.
If you want to treat yourself I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough - we will definately go back.
