Summary
I loved the 4 poster room. The breakfast was perfection.
I thought that the carpet on the stairs let the hotel down badly.
This is a delightful, clean, comfortable and very welcoming hotel. I have stayed here before and will most definitely stay here again! The rooms are cosy, clean, and nicely decorated - beautiful bed linen!; the breakfast room is a fab conservatory (food excellent); and the swimming pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi are well-appointed and very welcoming. The best thing about the hotel is its staff - from the moment you arrive they simply cannot do enough for you! And, fantastic value for money! We'll be back!
Summary
Considering the area this hotel is in and the price we paid for the room my work collegue and i were expecting a shabby hotel. However it is a lovely hotel situated on top of the hill over looking the Thames a short walk from the center of Richmond. The room was a twin and was a little snug but not overly. The room was in very good order and cleanleness. I always think you can tell the quality of a hotel by its bathroom/ shower and bed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom although a little tired was good quality. The breakfast had ample of selection and was also of good quality. Would definitely stay there again.
Summary
Cosy room, but very clean and adequate. The en-suite came with both a bath and shower. Very comfortable sleep.
Would definitely recommend!
We found the hotel comfortable and a home from home. Can not fault the service given. Was well within walking distance of Richmond Park and the town centre. Whilst no problem for ourselves my only concern would be for those of lesser mobility when getting around.
Summary
Ok for a great walk in Richmond Park
Summary
Booked standard double room but was upgraded to a fantastic room. Luxurious furnishings and superb bathroom. Made our stay all the more enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
Summary
We had booked a matinee show in London so did we arrived early but that was not a problem for checking in as our room was ready. We had to wait a little while to be served as there was only one receptionist who was having trouble with the computer as they were being very slow to respond to deal with the people in front trying to pay and check out.
The room was small, but clean and acceptable for our needs of one night. It felt cold when we arrived but easy to find the radiator valve to increase the temperature which responded quickly. The bed was comfortable and no noise heard from around the hotel. The shower was difficult and stiff to turn, so much so we had to get assistance but that was not a problem and quickly dealt with some brute force! We had room service for breakfast which arrived at the time we requested but sadly the cooked was cold. Other than that it was a lovely place to stay with easy access to centre of London and walking distance to the train station. We had a lovely walk along the river before leaving.
Reasonable value for money with the added bonus of easy parking, something of a nightmare in Richmond. First impression very good. Nice appealing entrance. Had to wait until 2.15pm for our room to be ready but pleasently suprised at how nice it was, albeit very small. Did not have chance to use the leisure club but breakfast was very nice, especially in the conservatory. Perfect location for a nice "morning after2 stroll in Richmond Park. Only real negative was £4.20 a pint!.
Summary
On arrival I was greeted by a very unfriendly receptionist. He seemed pre-occupied and not at all interested in his customers best interest. The dinner we had in our room very nice and both enjoyed it very much, however the breakfast was cold and uncooked - both the full English breakfast and Continental breakfast was cold.
Summary
General standard of the hotel was good but service was below average from the front desk. When we arrived at 4pm, of our 2 rooms one was not a twin as requested and the room only had one towel. The worst issue was the restrictions on the use of the leaisure club (being one of the main reasons we chose this hotel). If you have children BEWARE! There are time restrictions on when you can use the pool. We were not informed of this by the front desk when we checked-in. As a result, after waiting for the twin room to be sorted, our boys only had 10 mins in the pool. Stay ruined and front desk was ambivalent. Not good service.
Summary
Lovely hotel, staff very helpful & food excellent. Would thoroughly recommend hotel & hope to stay here again in the future.
Summary
The hotel was everything its website led me to believe. Quiet, relaxing & comfortable. My only criticism would be that breakfast staff were too busy to be attentive to guests.
Summary
Good clean room with tasteful decor. Handy for short stay but room perhaps too small to spend any significant period inside. Pleasant and handy location for visitors travelling by road. The reception staff were helpful and easy to understand as English appeared to be their first language.
Summary
It has one of the best view of the Thames. The room was more spacious than I have expected. A separate sitting area and balcony impressed enormously.
Summary
Lovely hotel , only really saw the reception staff who were very helpful .
Would definitely recommend this hotel.
One added bonus was being able to park the car for free, took away all the worry of parking.
Used the pool which was very clean , also used the pool cafe bar, the staff again were very helpful and looked after us well. Only stayed one night ,but intend to go back again nearer Christmas
A joy to stop there . Thank you
Lovely hotel with excellent staff in all areas including the health club. Peaceful, comfortable and with some lovely lounge areas. Great location near the park and river. Unfortunately we had a strange humming in the room which kept me awake until we drowned it out with the airconditioning which we also needed on as we seemed to have a winter weight quilt on the bed! The restaurant food was nothing special considering the price. Perfectly Ok but expensive and as such the restaurant wasn't busy and didn't have much of an atmosphere.
Summary
We enjoyed our stay here, room was small but clean, we were put in a ground floor overlooking the garden which was very dark (as was the decor) it felt a little tired and functional, would stay again if needed but probably not go out of way to stay . Staff on reception were nice and were helpful too.
Summary
Expensive, mediocre room with a terrible view of the back of a store-room.
Good bed, good bathroom.
Usual kettle, coffee etc with not enough milk.
If you are a couple then expect to share the one towel supplied
Best not use the the ingredients for coffee on arrival in the room as you will not have any for the morning.
This hotel markets itself as 4 star you are better off in a travel lodge
I booked this hotel 3 month ago as a 'Valentines treat' for my husband combined with tickets to Twickenham - which I paid for up front!! £152 without breakfast! I was called the day before we were due to stay and informed that there was no availability, we were then offered another hotel which was below par! Not impressed at all!

Summary
Lovely breakfast but restaurant 3 course menu was very expensive and had not much choice. Went out for dinner to pub round the corner which was lovely. Swimming pool very busy around 5pm and full of children. If I stayed here again without children would go after 6pm when they are not there. Nice location of hotel and can easily walk along the river into shops.
Summary
Although Laterooms confirmed the booking, the Hotel was full.
Staff at the Hotel redirected me to a nearby Hotel.
Still confused about payments as had to pay at second hotel, will wait to view my statement
Great location, pleasant breakfast room, be careful about the room location - we were in a 'modern' block on the lower ground floor which was a bit dark and dismal
Summary
Great deal. Room very clean but smaller than expected.
Summary
I have only stayed in the neighbouring hotel - The Richmond Hill Hotel, which was a tad disappointing. But the Gate was a much better class of hotel. The rooms were fantastic, they had thought about everything. Only down side was my room was next to the lesiure facilities on the ground floor and the noise from the road kept me up for ages and in the morning I was woken early by the doors slamming in the corridor. Was surprised the girl on the reception didnt ask if I had a pleasant stay, isnt that basic hotel service? Despite this, I will definitely stay again.
Summary
The location was good, the parking is included. Its a short bus ride or walk down hill to the town centre, for links to other places. The reception looked after my personnal requests and provided public transport information. The room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was very good and I would come here again as my business was in Chiswick and the traffic after 9am was better than expected.
Summary
My wife and I spent the night here during a midweek trip to London. The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and accomidating. I would defintely recommend this hotel, and will stay here again.
Summary
An elegant, welcoming hotel in a wonderful setting at the top of Richmond Hill overlooking the Thames and within easy walking distance of Richmond Park. At dinner, the food was beautifully presented and imaginative (not often the case for vegetarians). The service was excellent. We liked the public rooms with their bookcases and comfortable armchairs where we could read the newspaper and drink tea (served with delicious fudge!) Breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the garden was very good indeed - we couldn't fault it . Sadly, our bedroom didn't have a lovely view of the river - that would have been the icing on the cake.
Summary
I arrived around 6pm and couldn't fault a thing from that point forward. I was upgraded to a 'feature' room with views across London. My room was huge, with an enormous king size bed, beautifully appointed bathroom and everything was very clean. Service in the bar, where I had a drink and a light meal was unobtrusive but very attentive. I really would find it very difficult to find any faults with this lovely hotel
Summary
The location of the hotel was great for walking to the Rugby at Twickenham and to catch the tube into Central London.
Nice setting with views across the River and Park only a short walk away.
Booked through a special deal with laterooms which gave about 50% off website price. Hotel has a very traditional and old-fashioned facade which is lovely to look at and in keeping with the surroundings, particularly suitable for our pre-xmas break. About a mile out of Richmond centre up a moderate hill but some lovely parks and the riverside walk along the Thames make for a pleasant stroll in to the centre.
Receptionist was helpful on check-in and the double room, though small, was perfectly adequate and very clean, although the shower control in the bathroom was loose. Of particular note was the Egyptian cotton bedding which was a lovely touch. We ate in the bar on the first evening, which was a mixed blessing as the food was rather bland and the barman somewhat aloof. The drinks weren't cheap either.....
Breakfast was pre-booked full English for £10 per person and probably not necessary as the buffet spread was excellent including fruit, yoghurts and cereals. It was served in a modern conservatory extension overlooking the garden - a pleasant setting indeed.
Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to visit the spa and leisure facilities although they looked quite impressive.
Overall, an enjoyable stay in a traditional English hotel, but with modern bedrooms and facilities and good customer service. Probably best to eat and drink elsewhere though.....
Nice comfortable room, very quiet (was at the back of the hotel) attentive staff, good breakfast. excellent pool and gym facilities, I would stay again and recomend this hotel to my friends and family
Summary
I use, on average 3 different hotels per week, and definately one of the best hotels I have stayed in, in all areas.
Summary
A wonderful stay, great service, fabulous room! We could not have asked for more. Would recommend to family and friends. The location was perfect as well.
Summary
Expensive for what it is. Poor service. Would never stay again.
Summary
The hotel has a lovely location and the staff are very friendly and helpful for check-in taxi. This time around I was staying for 2 nights so had case; laptop and day bag and there was no offer of help which you would hope for for a hotel that has no lift. So from entry to room it was around 30 steps.
Didn't eat here before so found the food lacking in consistency, although i knew it was cooked fresh.
the room (300) was overlooked by the neigbouring building - direct line of site into the bathroom.
Room was really good with a very pleasant view and soundproof, en suite facilities superb
one small quibble - there was a lack of storage, due to room being on small side - maybe needed bed drawers to maximize space
