No bad, just to expensive

We stayed at the Portland as we decided for a night out at a show to celebrate our 30th birthdays. The hotel was in a good location to the theatres and the room was an ok size. However, the bed was right in the corner of the room under the window which seemed like a waste of space, the tv remote wouldn't work if you were lying in bed (presume the sensor was broken) and a repair job on the wallpaper was done by bluetac and it hadn't worked. There is nothing that is appalling about the hotel, it's just way over priced for what you get.

The Joy of English language

My girlfriend and I took my recently widowed mother to the famous Veereswamy restaurant in Regent street for her 70th birthday treat and decided to round off the trip with 2 rooms at the Portland booked through Laterooms.
To cut a long story short all was ok Except for the frustrating time trying to make ourselves understood with the young Eastern European Trainee receptionist. I think its high time that the English tourist industry realised that we the consumers would be more likely to stay in an hotel with English speaking staff .

Superb room

An enormous room with a bed to match! Very comfortable and well furnished with clever self-catering cupboard. Spotlessly clean. Very helpful staff.

Sunday stopover

We arrived on Sunday afternoon at 2.30. Had a result with the parking, right outside!! Because of Sunday laws we managed to park free for the duration of our stay. The hotel was well kept and presented, the staff were polite and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. It took about 15 mins to walk in to Covent Garden. We needed to leave early on the Monday morning to head North and found ourselves on the M1 within 25 mins. Overall, a pleasant stopover that suited our needs to a tee!
