We stayed at the The Mayfair on 1st May 2010 and was extremely disappointment. There were a number of factors which I would not expect from a high end hotel:When booking we stated that we require a quiet room as my partner is a light sleeper. This however was not taken into account as we were placed opposite a hen party, whom were screaming and signing in the early hours of the morning. Whilst I appreciate it may be difficult for them to control the volume of guests, I do think that they should of listened to our request and considered room allocation more thoughtfully. Once we finally got back to sleep the music system next to the television went off at 6ish. Although the alarm may have been set by a previous guest I do think that this should have been checked and switched off by a member of staff during room inspections, especially as we had requested a quiet room on booking. As we checked into the room it was immediately apparent that the room was not just untidy but dirty, to the extent that I had to phone the household department. I had to request that the bits of plastic etc was hovered off the floor and that the bath was cleaned so that the dirty brown water was removed from it.This was supposed to be a relaxing birthday treat away from the children for both my partner and I. To have to point out basic hygiene and to be disturbed on more than 4 occasions during the early morning was not what I would expect from any establishment. Upon check out I explained how disappointed we were and I was told then that there were no notes on the system (yet another disregard of our complaint) and that our comments would be forwarded to the management. As yet I have heard nothing, even though I have also emailed a formal complaint.

Not only did I get a great offer through late rooms, when we arrived we were upgraded. The room was wonderful with everything you could wish for and a very comfortable bed. The location of the hotel is brilliant, perfect for popping over to Leicester Sq. it was also very quiet, I heard no noise from outside or other guests. We had the continental breakfast delivered to the room, very good quality food and a great choice on offer. The only thing I could fault was the fact we only had one pillow each, though I am sure if we had called reception for more they would have been sent up.

The Amba Restaurant served the worst hotel food I have ever eaten (a ewes milk souffle which was as heavy and solid as an overcooked dumpling, followed by a almb dish that was accompanied by a rectangular slice of burned potatoes covered in grease - really really awful), served by the rudest waiter I've ever met, which is quite some going for one evening! The reception staff were perfectly nice and the room was ok, except that the shower head ran the whole time I tried to have a bath, and the television wasn't tuned in correctly - you'd think they'd have digital by now, but instead sent a man "to fiddle with the antenna". We didn't bother trying the £22 a head breakfast after the dinner fiasco - we just got out of there and ate locally for half the price and at twice the quality. It all felt like a bit of a rip off to be honest, and I wish I'd stayed at The Athenaeum down the road - which is always great.

Hotel is a great location, rooms to a high standard, one of the best in London I have stayed in with a separate bathroom and wet room. There was a celebrity party on the night we stayed which made it very noisy. If your room overlooks Berkeley Street it gets very noisy with people outside the bars and clubs.Helpful polite staff.Difficult to get a taxi at night, especially if raining, tube station within 2 mins walk with access to all of central London. Was back too late to go in the bar as last orders had been taken at 12.30.Friend used the spa for some treatments and said they were lovely.

Having stayed at many of the top hotels in London I expected the May Fair to be as good - it wasn't! The girl who checked us in was rude and dismissive, no one took our bags, no one opened the door, and yet there were plenty of staff standing around chatting!! I complained to the Manager and he passed me back to reception and the guy I spoke to began arguing with me so I told him to forget it and that I just wouldn't bother staying at the May Fair again and he said that was fine!!!! The room was OK, but doesn't begin to compare with the Grosvenor or the Metropolitan......it was quite dark and was right next to the air con units. Service was terrible - unless you are a celebrity forget this place!

Check-in was efficient but 'cold'. Check-out was inefficient - in the end had to use express check-out. Room good for London standards. Location was excellent just off Piccadilly opposite The Ritz. Good value for the low rate paid, full rate would not be good value. I would stay there again - but only on another low rate deal.

I am going back to London in June and was looking to rebook at Mayfair. Unfortunately the price is over £100 more so will have to look for something else which is a real shame. This is one of the best hotels that I have stayed at. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a real buzz and excellent service.

This was my third stay at this hotel...
This was my third stay at this hotel, previously on business, this time with a friend for her birthday. On checking in and having been under the impression we would have a twin room we were told it was merely requested and none was available. This wasn't made clear to us at the time of booking, very disappointing and misleading. Whilst the hotel is very nice in terms of decor, very trendy and in an excellent location, the service was very poor and not what I would have expected of a five star hotel. After an evening out, we went to our mini bar for some water and found a half opened bottle in the fridge (not opened by us) and had to ring room service for some water. At breakfast the next morning, service was appalling, lots of staff but no-one looking to help. We had to send the tea back twice because it had bits floating in it. We had to ask for cutlery, milk and each time after waiting ages we had to get up and go to the staff to attract their attention despite them just standing around. Our cooked breakfast took at least 15 minutes to arrive. On going back to our room, we got a call to say my friend had left her earrings at breakfast and they offered to bring them to the room which was great....except the man delivering them had a key and just let himself into our room, only shouting hello once he was inside. Completely inappropriate we thought. At checkout the gentleman on reception was very sympathetic and much more helpful and keen to please then the customer service manager had been at our check in! He kindly removed the cost of two bottles of champagne which had been added to our account and not drunk by us! In terms of service, the only redeeming feature at this hotel was the concierge who were excellent. I stay in 5 star London frequently with business and most have been in a different league to this in terms of service and food. Would not recommend this hotel based on our stay this weekend. Certainly not worthy of the £200 per night price tag.

£200 per room including breakfast, obviously a bargain. So not expecting a suite. They met my expectations. It wasnt a suite. It was a decent room, great bed, small bathroom with a shower in the bath (our freinds room had a seperate walk in shower). The problem was on the 3rd floor we had a wall 1 yard outside our windws, all the way across. Infact you could see round one edge but that was obscured by the fire escape ladder. OK, so it was a discounted room and we didnt book it for the view, but I have never stayed in a hotel room with the windows completely obscured by a wall 1 yard away.Besides this dissappointment, the hotel is is exceptional. The staff are extremely polite. Breakfast was very good. The downside (as with all hotels like this) is, that whilst I regard myself as a normal bloke, reasonably comfortable, in these hotels you have people who are probably very rich but spend their time parading around the place looking you up and down seeing if you are worthy.Other than a top end watch I do not go in for showing off with big labels. So in the lift I doubt I past the (laughable) inspections that other guests give out.Very very pretencious. So was the noisy screamer two rooms down !Would I stay again ? Offcourse for £200 u cannot go wrong. Also to the traffic warden who lead me to the carpark( maybe 1/2 a mile away) by letting me follow him whilst he rode his bicycle, I would like to say thanks, you have completely changed my view of traffic wardens - what a gent !

The entrance and lobby area of the hotel is excellent. It is superbly decorated and extremely modern there is no wonder the celebrities stay here. Everything was very clean and welcoming. The reception was busy and the staff were polite but alittle abrupt. The location is fantastic it is across from the ritz, st james park, buckingham palace, guy ritchies pub and within walking distance of Oxford and Bond Street. The tube stop is also only 2 minutes walk away.We stayed in a superior room which cost £183.50. We wanted to stay here as we heard all the celebs visit and as it was valentines day we thought we may have a good chance of spotting one or two. The room corridors and the rooms themselves are very dark, a bit gloomy. The room was small but ok for London standards although I must say the bathroom was large with a seperate bath and shower. The only down side to the room was that the shower glass did not stop the water escaping to the bathroom so you ended up with water all over the floor and the wardrobe was in the bathroom and had no door so your clothes got a bit damp. The room itself was very bare and needed a picture of some kind to make it nice - bit of a Travel Inn feel not very cosy. The walls are very thin and the noises of people returning to their rooms kept us up especially the 2.30am argument between one couple which lasted for 30 minutes but you could get that anywhere! We used the gym the next morning which is good but small. The have a power plate machine which is rare. We did not have breakfast as it was £22.50 each which we felt was a bit expensive and we had lunch plans. Whilst we were there so were the Saturdays and I saw a member of JLS checking in on Sunday morning. It was an experience just to see all the ferraris and Bentleys outside surrounded by paparazzi!!In conclusion the hotel has an incredible lobby, ok rooms, is in a brilliant location and is great for celebrity spotting.

The first room that I was given was a very small room facing a brick wall and this made it seem very dark. I asked for a twin as I was sharing with my son and I wondered if twin rooms were scarce. I asked at reception if I could change and was given a large family room overlooking the road with two double beds. This was a much better room and it was changed with no trouble at all. The position of this hotel was very good-near to Green Park tube. The breakfast was excellent and even though the hotel was very busy all the staff seemed friendly.

We stayed at the Mayfair Hotel on Sunday 7th February as we were going to see a show at the Royal Albert Hall which was only 10 mins away by taxi. The hotel location was fantastic, central london, walking distance to most places but in a quiet road not right on top of the hussle & bussle. The hotel was lovely, modern, very comfortable & luxurious. We found a great advance booking rate for a Superior room, the room size was great, plenty of space for two people. Even though we didn't spend a lot of time actually in the hotel everyone from the doormen, reception & concierge were very friendly & welcoming. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Lovely hotel and in a great situation. My only criticism was that the bathroom had not been cleaned properly before we entered the room, the soap bottle holder has weeks of soap scum at the bottom and the tiles had not been cleaned around the bath. Apart from this the room was lovely and spacious and the hotel staff were very friendly.

The staff at this hotel are fantastic, whatever you ask for there is someone at the door within a few minutes which is rare I think these days.Unfortunately past the lobby the room, although spacious, was pretty ordinary. For a 5* hotel it is very basic, there is no real luxury. There is no mirror in the bedroom & no plug sockets in the bathroom so doing your hair is a difficult job - I was given an extension wire to take my straightners into the bathroom which was the only real solution. This all said, the hotel was very clean & I couldn't praise the staff more. I don't think I expect too much from a 5* but I do expect luxury & I was left disappointed.

Firstly, the hotel location was so central to everywhere I wanted to go, we didn't take the tube or bus at all. Walking distance to most places(and I'm not mega fit) and 5 mins from Green Park tube. Usually in a hotel you don't sleep as well as at home but the exception was the May Fair. Bed so comfy and luxurious, must find out about the bedding, it was heaven. Didn't eat in hotel at all so cant comment on the food. Went to Napket for breakfast just round the corner in Piccadilly. Staff were very helpful and hotel immaculate. The smell of the candles in reception were lovely. Definitly will stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

We stayed between Christmas and New Year. The location of the hotel was great for shopping in Mayfair and it has all the facilities of a 5* hotel as you would expect. The overall level of service in the hotel was excellent. The conciege got us a great reserevation for dinner which I was unable to do myself. I was a bit underwhelmed with the bedroom which was big enough but gave the appearance of being unfinished in its decoration. We had a cooked breakfast in the hotel which was good, but the modern decor in the dining room meant it was just too dark to read a paper and the squash of tables was a bit too close for comfort.

Almost faultless stay except (and as usual) the hairdryer was placed in the darkest part of the bathroom (in the wardrobe) and could not be moved. When will hotels re-learn that ladies need a dressing table with good light and a mirror? Also the pillow was as hard as rock and I would have expected a hotel of this calibre to offer at least two per person, per bed so that you had the choice between hard and soft.

We had a lovely time in the Mayfair...
We had a lovely time in the Mayfair Hotel, the rooms were lovely, food very nice (just breakfast that we had there), very professional staff - they made our stay very comfortable. There are just two things which I was not particularly happy with as follows: 1) when in the hotel bar one of the nights we ordered 2 rounds of 3 drinks per round, when I checked the receipts the following day I noticed that on top of the charge for the drinks, there was an 'optional' service charge of £3.50!!! To me this was not optional as I was not informed about it, and therefore was not given the choice of giving the extra £3.50 per round!! I am not taking issue with a service charge at all, and I did not want the £3.50 x 2 back - but I feel that to be charged a so-called 'optional' charge without my knowledge is slightly unprofessional. I would request that the hotel review this and take note for future reference.2) The second issue is that I was charged in full at time of booking by the hotel due to the nature of the deal on Laterooms.com. On checking in to the hotel I also checked with the staff that the charge was paid in full which they agreed yes it was, however on checking out I was informed by another menber of staff that the full amount had not been taken out at time of booking so I was then charged the remainder at time of checking out. This was not to my satisfaction as I had specifically asked if my hotel bill had been paid in full on check in, I would like if Laterooms - or the hotel - could also take this info onboard.Otherwise I was happy with the hotel, lovely location and ambience.

The hotel obviously has the wow factor on arrival (paparazi outside always helps) and we may have just been unlucky but we found that there were not enough staff and those that were there didn't have time or weren't bothered. Our non-smoking room heavily smelt of stale smoke. We asked for it to be freshened up and went down to the bar to have a drink whilst they did it. On returning to our room an hour later they still hadn't been. We then sat in the room for another half an hour before somebody turned up and gave it a quick spray which didn't help. We then asked for a different room. An hour later we were then moved. There are much better hotels in London for this money with much better service. On a plus note - the bar is the place to be!!!

This was the third occasion we had stayed at this hotel and the only word to describe the overall decor of the rooms and corridors is DRAB - horrible shades of brown/green - most unwelcoming. Even worse is the layout of the room we had on this stay. The en-suite contained the wardrobe which did not even have a door on it. The layout combined with a glass sliding door on the en-suite was both unhygienic and impractical. Great location, great staff spoiled by a horrible refurbishment. I have been looking forward to a stay...
I have been looking forward to a stay in London for some weeks as my girlfriend and her mother and grandmother were visiting for the first time. We were sadly underwhelmed by our hotel experience within minutes of arrival. It took 30 minutes to check in as our reservation reference for 2 rooms for 2 nights was not accepted as valid by the hotel staff. The explanation was that the laterooms.com reference does not always tally with what is booked at the hotel. After a lot of mutual head scratching, a room was found that was not ready for us. Later that night my girlfriend's mother and grandmother tried to get in to their room and after 4 trips in the lift to the reception and back to their room with various members of staff and "master keys", the staff gave up and they had to go to another room without their belongings. Later that night (at about 2:30am), they received a knock at the door and their belongings arrived. Thankfully they were suffering from jet lag (and chronic exasperation) so they were not woken up. The cleaners of their room then forgot their duties the following day but all was not lost as they woke them up at 8am the next day to clean the room. I was beginning to think that the taxi driver had taken a wrong turn and delivered us to Fawlty Towers. It was not all bad though. The breakfast was OK and we didn't have to pay for the first night debacle. You have been warned!
