Good hotel for the location and price. The staff were polite and welcoming. Comfortable beds and good size soft towels. Only problem we were unable to close the outer windows to reduce the traffic noise. If the airconditioning unit was used the windows would need to be opened.

3 days in February.

We enjoyed the stay. Our room was on the top floor of the annex which involved a twisting stairway. To be fair they said we could transfer for the second & third nights but we decided to avoid the need to repack and then unpack. The room would not have been suitable for a disabled couple and I am not sure what would have happened on the first night if we couldn't make such a steep climb as there were no other beds available. ( I am a fit 72 year old). We did have some concern about evacuation in the event of an emergency as the only route was back down the stairs and our bedroom door did not appear to be a proper fire door.

The room was poor value for a "Family Room". It was at the top of the Hotel and very difficult to carry your luggage up very steep stairways. There was very little space and would expect a family room to be bigger. Layout of the room was poor with a chair just sat in front of a fridge as there was no where else to put it. The room was dirty with human hair found in the shower which was not a good shower as the water dribbled from the head. The wifi does not work at all. The breakfast was continental or you had to pay for the "English breakfast" which I could not see explained when I booked. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Our stay.

The room was large and spacious, has it was a family room due to a mistake giving us the wrong room. We were next door to the eating area so it meant us going in and out of the cold for our breakfast. The house was dusty due to them decorating which was fine, the room was clean, with clean bedding and towels, but the bathroom was horrid, needed painting and the tiles were dirty with scum.

Elements of chaos and disruption on day I checked in

Took 45 mins to check in. Obviously hotel had messed up my booking. One room allocated OK but no plausible explanation why I had to wait so long to get my room. Electrical work or testing being done that day which meant workmen had to access rooms and power off whilst we were getting ready to go out. If check in had been quicker, we'd have been out sooner and less affected by this. staff pleasant and tried to be helpful - just irritating that I'd arranged to meet friend there at 2.30 but it was 3.30 before I could. One of my curtains was disengaged from pull cord so difficult to get to close properly and absence of light bulb in over-bed light was a nuisance. Breakfast was fine for the price and lovely staff service. Had about 70 stairs to reach my room which killed my knees, but that's hardly the hotel's fault! Bathroom very clean and nice towels. All in all, mixed beings about stay.

Good value and location

Gloucester Place is very akin (and not very far away) from Baker Street, and if you can dismiss the modern traffic, you could imagine Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson walking along. The hotel building retains some of the original features and has the right 'feel' about it. My room was fine, although being a country boy, I found the busy street outside a bit disturbing, but had I stayed longer, I would have probably got used to it. Breakfast was good, and staff polite.

Better than expected

Sure, the furniture could do with a bit of updating. However, as I only stayed one night, it didn't really matter to me. I booked a single room with shared bathroom, but got one with a private one, which was nice. The room had a reasonable size, and was equipped with a small flatscreen, hairdryer, fridge, aircondition and tea making facilities — but most importantly, everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was decent; a small buffet with cereal, fruit, eggs, meat, cheese and condiments; tea and toast was served at your table. Additional items could be ordered for a couple of extra quid. Staff was polite and friendly. All in all, a quite nice experience.

Good service but noisy

Had a huge room in basement which was a bit shabby but was perfectly fine for my stay and clean. Good facilities and breakfast offered. Ideal location for central London - Madame Tussauds, Oxford St, etc. Unfortunately was woken up very early and couldn't get back to sleep as right next door to the breakfast room and could hear loud footsteps through the ceiling.

If only they'd serviced the room!

I loved this place. It has a real old word charm, even the lack of lifts added to this and the room was spacious, stylish, comfortable and quiet with a nice view through the bay windows over the mews backing onto the terraced streets at the front. Good location, near to a couple of decent pubs and not too far from the Tube. About 10 minutes walk max. Even the cooked breakfast was good if you don't expect bacon.
The only real problem was that having been out of the place from about 9am to 10. I came back pretty late and tired to find that the room hadn't been serviced. The wet towels were still there on the bathroom floor (as instructed) and the bed was unmade.
I brought this up when I checked out and got sort of stonewalled by the otherwise courteous Duty Manager. The records showed that my room wasn't cleaned because ' the guest was in the room.' Not true unless they knocked at 8.00am, because I was out all day. I was told that the owner ,Mr Sharif, would investigate and contact me.
He's had three weeks now and I suspect he's forgotten. I wasn't after a refund because I'd been very happy with the stay but I would have appreciated some sort of response for not having received the full service that I'd paid for. It's a real shame as I loved the room, the location , the staff etc. but you know, it doesn't seem right.

Great value for money, decent hotel

If you have business meetings in downtown London, and want a walking distance hotel - an unbeatable deal. I took the double room with toilet, and still paid a surprisingly low sum, including breakfast and internet connectivity.
The only minus I had was the fact there was no elevator, but given the great price, its well worth it

Great location, could be better

The location was excellent, just being a short walk from Oxford Street and very convenient for accessing the West end. Although I paid for a 'superior room' which was spacious and clean, I felt it was a bit shabby for the money and the breakfast was very poor; I asked for scrambled eggs for breakfast and it was inedible! One of the reception staff was friendly on arrival though two of them were actually quite rude and I won't be staying again!

Good value, for what and where it is

I thought that this was charming. The proprietors were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. If you have difficulty climbing stairs, however, don't even think of it. I was there on a hot night, and there were three different arrangements to get cool air flowing: a bit Heath Robinson, but they worked.

Good value centrally placed hotel

Suited my purposes very well. Friendly , helpful staff . Quite a few stairs as I was on the 3rd floor with no lift. Room was a bit hot and traffic noise constant. Couldn't open the window, literally. Reception was downstairs and there was nowhere to wait near the front door when expecting a taxi or visitor . I liked the water dispenser on the 2nd floor.

The location of the hotel was great, short walk to Oxford road, short taxi drive to Shafstbury ave -theatre area. We didnt expect a seating area with sofa and coffee table in a family room -which was a bonus. Plenty of hot water - even with 4 people showering in succession. Hotel was full but we never heard any other guests -and our room was right by the entrance door. The traffic was non stop throught the night but thats London! go and stay in the country if you want total quiet! Breakfast was well cooked, and plentiful, service was excellent. Bathroom although basic was spotless - as were beds. Great little hotel for a city break.
