This hotel is ok for a very basic stay! Its just what i wanted as was on a sight seeing trip with my son so the room was there to sleep in! The hotel is a brilliant location...just 1 minute walk from Kings Cross!! Perfect for a sightseeing hotel.
The room wasnt ensuite but I knew this when booking...the bathroom was a flight of stairs downstairs so not the best.
The breakfast was absolutely fantastic....I couldnt have asked for more!!!
Overall if i was going on another sightseeing break this would be the place to go!! For price and location.

We picked this hotel for the location near to St Pancras Station and for that purpose it served our needs very well.
The room was clean and adequate.
The staff weren't exactly welcoming....just don't expect customer service with a smile in London!
Also beware if you leave early in the morning you miss out on the full cooked breakfast. The staff did manage to round up some fruit and a yogurt for us.

The location of the hotel is excellent with king's cross st pancrasstation a two minute walk away. Although the double room we stayed in was just large enough to fit the bed sink and wardrobe, due to the quiet surroundings in such a great location we felt it was great value for money.
The only down point of our stay would be the shared bathroom - I had to wait about half an hour to use the loo, which isn't so great if you really need to go! Also the bathroom itself was clean and everything but not great looking. So if you can get an ensuite I would go for it.
I managed to set off all the fire alarms in the building with the steam from my curling tongs and the hotel owner went a bit nutty. He thought we were smoking and shouted quite a bit... we tried to explain but he was having none of it and kept yelling... other than that it's good for a quick cheap stay!

The room was smaller than any of the photo's showed. It was very basic but ideal for us as we were only staying over night in London before getting the Eurostar to Paris. The location was perfect for St Pancras as only a couple of minutes walk. The room was very basic and dated furniture but bed was comfortable. If we every wanted a room as just a stop over in again we would use this Hotel again. We had to leave before breakfast but the owner offered to make us breakfast earlier than the normal time which was good.

I stay in London a fair bit, mainly on business. I've stayed in about 15-20 hotels in London so far in 2009. Some large brand hotels, and smaller private ones. The Apollo, at first glance, looked too small and perhaps a bit grubby. But not at all, the family that own and run it were very friendly and the attic room i stayed in, very cosy. The breakfast in the morning was great, and I will be staying there again. And of course, a stones throw from King's Cross station.

Stayed for one night on business. A friendly welcome, all areas very clean. The previous occupant of my room had managed to break one of the glass panels in the shower door, but this was explained to me on arrival and the door had been made safe and was still servicable.
A very comfortable bed and pillows, immaculately clean (which makes a very refreshing change!). Bathroom tiny but functional and included the worlds smallest sink! Hotel looks nothing from the outside but is in a pleasant and incredibly quiet street in Kings Cross. Excellent full English breakfast was served with a very cheery "good morning". Will stay again.

Innkeepers were very nice, helpful and accommodating. Their main priority was for the comfort of their guests. Room was very small however it had everything i needed and was clean. Bed was less than comfortable. Room located on the top floor up 4 flights of stairs. Walls are very thin. Neighbouring room arrived home in the wee hours of the morning and woke me out of a dead sleep. Breakfast offered more than I needed. Innkeepers offered a cheerful good morning accompanied by genuinely warm hospitality. Centrally located to Euston Station, Kings Cross Station, Subway and Bus services which made getting aroung London a breeze. Very good value for the money. Would definately recommend and stay again.

The room was fine, with a nice temperature. The bathroom very nice and clean....but VERY narrow, which is not too comfortable, when you are a plus size girl like me :-). The breakfast was very good, so we were quite satisfied with our room. Another great feature is a tube station nearby (3 minute walk). I do have one complaint though: I had also booked a room for my brother and a cousin....their bed was only about 48 inches wide, and that can hardly be called a double room

There's really nothing bad to say about the Apollo - great location, 15 minute walk from covent garden and leicester square, 2 minutes from Kings Cross tube, clean and well presented (if a little small) rooms, excellent full English breakfasts and helpful staff. If I had to mention any downsides I would mention the shared bathroom, of which there's only one (but there is a seperate extra toilet). Overall, brilliant value for money in London, but not somewhere to spend a honeymoon! Essentially you get what you pay for!

A great wee hotel for the price but don't go expecting the Hilton. Ideal for short breaks. If older beware that there are a lot of stairs packed into this small hotel.

Looking for a base to explore London from the north side of the city this is a quiet small hotel similar to a bed and breakfast establishment. the rooms are small and this may disappoint some however the cost per room in comparison to other hotels is very reasonable. Kings Cross station is 2 minutes walk along side the underground. As a place to rest your head while exploring the city its ideal, the breakfasts are basic but fine, not a wide choice of food but the service was friendly. Value for money in a city such as London

Great location minutes walk from St Pancras station...
Great location, 3 minutes walk from St. Pancras station and in a very quiet street (Argyle st.). We booked a double ensuite and we got room number 10, on third floor (last one), steps are very tight and carrying up our big luggage was a bit uncomfortable. The room is very small but the most disappointing thing was the ceiling, too low, I'm 186cm and I nearly touched the ceiling with my hair! This is because all the third floor is near the roof, so that rooms 10, 11 and 12 are like a mansard splitted in three little rooms (I don't know if in the second floor rooms have private bathrooms and if they are bigger than those on the third floor, all the first floor has rooms with shared facilities). Anyway the bathroom is little too, the sink is exactly the one you find in most of london pubs so it was very difficult to wash hands or teeth, but at least there is a good power shower. Room was quite clean but as I said before it is the smallest I have ever been to travelling through UK B&Bs. I think this is the standard in London, but maybe at this price you can find a more decent room in terms of SPACE. However our stay was good, the two hosts (we spoke with them in italian beacause they have italian origins) were very kind, and breakfast was freshly cooked, worth of it. This hotel is perfect for 3 or 4 nights in London (we stayed there 3 nights) but maybe if you want to stay a whole week you may try other accomodations at this price or little more.

The Appollo is typical of these three story B&B's in Kings Cross. Very economical and offering good train transport. The owners were very helpful, becuase our room was on the top floor (the only reason why we gave it a 4 for the quality of the room), they carried one of our bags up for us. The room itself was very newly decorated and very adequate - if abit small and stuffy in a London summer. The full english breakfast was cooked a'la carte by the owners and was absolutely great! Would definately stay again.

As the other reviews said this is is...
As the other reviews said, this is is an inexpensive (for London) hotel and you get what you pay for. The Apollo is family run, and the couple who tends it is very nice. They were happy to store my bags all afternoon after I checked out, since my flight didn't leave until 9:20 PM. My room was up four flights of stairs and there was no lift; but the lady helped me drag my giant suitcase up all those stairs. Knowing I had to walk up those stairs to get back to my room also helped force me to stay out and explore London, rather than just napping or reading in my room.
The bathroom is a bit interesting, but since many rooms in this price range don't have en suite, I figured it was ok. There was no seperate shower or bathtub in the bathroom-- instead, the entire floor was waterproof and had a drain in the middle. You stood between the sink and the toilet, pulled a shower curtain around you, and then turned on the water. The water pressure and temperature control were excellent; it's just a bit disconcering at first.
The breakfast was in the basement, but the eggs were cooked to order and everything was hot and fresh. I had the full English and I didn't need to eat until tea time, which is a value in London.
Sadly, I think most of the en suite rooms are on the top floor, but maybe it will get easier if I become more fit. This is a very basic hotel room, but if you come to enjoy London rather than loaf about in the hotel room, the Apollo is a decent way to go.
This family-run B&B is in an excellent location....just down a road across from Kings Cross. During our stay the owners were on holiday and the daughter was running the business. She was extremely friendly, if not a little over-worked!! The room we stayed in was on top floor. It was clean, small but adequate. For breakfast there was a choice of Full English or just cereal etc. It was all cooked by the daughter and was absolutely delicious. Our only problem was in the mornings when there wasn't any hot water. I mentioned it to the daughter and she said I would have to maybe wait for a while whilst the water heated up again, but this hadn't happened by the time I'd had breakfast, so I had to forfeit my shower until later in the evening. Unfortunately the same thing happened the next morning and by this time I was rather cross (and probably smelly too!)In a B&B I would expect them to have a 'combi' boiler which would give them constant hot water. Its a shame as this is otherwise a very reasonable place to stay in London.

What can be said about the Hotel Apollo...
What can be said about the Hotel Apollo that has not already been said. The best parts are the location and the food. Being so close to King's Cross is wonderful. It is served by four main tube lines and rail. This is the best feature. We could be anywhere in London in 30 minutes. Breakfast is smashing. The time period is too short but the food is worth getting up for and enjoying. Big plate of good food served by great ladies. On the other side, I am sad to say rooms are very small, and mine smelled badly. When we walked in it was tough, 20 minutes later my nose was numb and OK. The walls are very thin, You know when people come and go and flush the toilet. Or at 2:00 am return from the pub and go. The stairs are narrow with no elevator With heavy bags the fourth floor is rough. And Bathroom that is shared is in the middle of the stairs, better get one in room if drinking at all. OVERALL for a place to sleep in London in a super location with great food this place can not be beat, want someplace quiet and romantic with space to stretch your feet then try somewhere else. I will tell friends about Apollo but will show them pictures and tell them about the flaws.

The Apollo is well located, close to King'sCross/St Pancras Station and is good value for money. Staff were friendly, pleasant and the food was good. My one criticism: Cigarette smoke drifting from the kitchen into the otherwise clean and pleasant dining room, where we were having our breakfast, made eating here unpleasant.

We stayed at the Apollo Hotel overnight before catching the Eurostar to Paris. Naturally, for the price, the room was very small. But we were only sleeping in the room. There was hot water and a loo. No lift so if you have heavy luggage be prepared.
The breakfast was terrific. For a budget B&B this was a fine place to stay.

A good inexpensive option to staying in London. The room we had was a bit small, but not too bad. I think you get what you are paying for, but as we are not staying there and essentially getting out we did not mind it much. Could be a problem if you are more than 2. The water mixer in the bathroom was spoilt and i recommend that they get that fixed as water was either too hot or cold as the mixer is spoilt.. Breakfast portions are large but basic. Beds are very clean and the place has just been painted which is nice. Not bad overall...recommend if you are travelling on a budget.....for 2 people at 52 pounds per night was good deal for London.

The hotel is within easy reach of Kings Cross & St Pancras stations. My room was clean but very small (with an ensuite). A warm night meant I had the window open which meant Police sirens all night, that's a function of the area and not the hotel. Some of the electricals in the room needed servicing with a defective bed-side lamp and only one of four bulbs working in the ceiling fitting. Being at the very top of the building the plumbing was noisey since the water had to be pumped every time a tap was turned on or the toilet was flushed. The full english breakfast was generous & very good. The people I encountered seemed nice & helpful.
Overall I believe this hotel is competitively priced & best suited to a man on his own on a one or two night business trip.

It wasn't a bad place. It was clean enough (actually the drapes in our room were gorgeous), mostly the shabby furnishings made it look grungy even though it was clean. We were on a tight budget so it was fine for our needs. The breakfast was fine, the staff were really friendly. The street was quiet, but I could hear the man next door snoring. More humourous than annoying. I would stay again if i couldn't find anything cheaper in a convenient area.

The room was decorated very nicely, cosy with lace curtains, etc. However, the room was very small: we had to lean over our luggage on the floor to reach the sink in the room. Yet, it was handy to have a sink in the room, the toilet and shower were down the hall. The food was excellent, and the proprietor even got us breakfast early to accomadate our schedule

This hotel provides a safe convenient place to stay for anyone visiting London. The breakfast provided was absolutely brilliant and it is rare to find such a good ENGLISH breakfast when staying in London, particularly at the price we paid. We were a little concerned about staying in the 'Kings Cross' area of London but the Hotel is situated on a quiet road in one of the better areas of Kings Cross. The the pub opposite serves wholesome food at a reasonable price and there a lot of fast food outlets a few hundred yards away. A little Gem of a hotel in the Capital city and we would definitely stay there again when visiting London.

Hotel is a death trap. Fire doors wedged open. Paper thin doors. My door was left open by the staff as they couldn't lock it. The hotel could do with a man with a screwdriver. The owner is surely never there or totally uninterested in the hotel. The breakfast cook must have spent some time in the Blackpool B and B's. The en-suite room was a joke. Better without it and share the toilet with all the others, although my girlfriend preferred not to use the bath. Overall, if you are going to London, get a good hotel or stay at home. It was a false economy to stay there for us as our whole stay in London was spoiled. Handy for the tube though if you don't mind a quick walk through the most seedy part of London.

This is certainly a budget establishment, but if you're expecting that then you'll be fine. The family who run it are helpful and friendly, and served a nice breakfast. The room was small, bed was hard, and the ensuite was a cupboard, but for somewhere to kip for the night it was liveable. It is situated in an area with other B&Bs and private residences, so the DIY and children screaming from the house behind was a bit distracting but not the hotel's fault. All in all, would probably stay again if after something cheap and cheerful!

We were given room number 12 - if possible avoid this room! It is on the top floor next to the communal toilet. Each time it is flushed it makes a racket lasting over a minute. Guaranteed to wake you up and if you're there over a weekend there is an never ending parade of people flushing throughout the night. There is nothing worse than having barely any sleep.
On the plus side, the hotel is clean and quietly located at the top of the street away from the main road. Though I booked and confirmed an en suite room with laterooms the hotel came back (the next day) and told me they didn't have any. At least they called in advance to let me know. I have stayed in hotels that cost 250.00 per night and this is not in that legue. However, it is perfect for those who dont want to or cant afford silly sums of money especially if you get back at 3.00 am and dont need to see all the expensive luxuries, just a warm room and a clean bed. Please dont put your prices up. Good, good, good. Stuart Harvey
