Our stay at The Howard was great. Customer service was excellent; very friendly. The option to upgrade to a River view room was well worth the extra 20. We decided not to eat in the restaurant but take a short walk (5/6 mins) to Gaucho, Chancery Lane. We were able to order take away burgers and eat them in our room as dusk hit. The view from the room was similar to that of Waterloo bridge; very 'London'.

We arrived quite late but the staff were very helpful and gave us a room upgrade on arrival as it was our first wedding anniversary. Our room was beautiful, and absolutely spotless. The bar area is a little open looking out onto the reception area but it is so beautifully decorated that you can ignore this... Bar prices are a little hight at 8.00 for a small glass of white wine althought the wine was gorgeous and it didn't stop me going back for another one! Everything was very easy and a great location as near the Temple underground station, so right on the district and circle lines.

Booked the Swissotel hotel for a romantic weekend break as a surprise for my boyfriend. I had read the reviews beforehand to check out the location and other peoples comments and can say they were right. Great hotel, excellent central location (request a premier river view room if you can) as we had excellent views over the river Thames. A tad pricey (for everything) but as a one off i didn't mind paying it. The service was excellent and the valet parking a definite bonus. I would definetely recommend this hotel and great location for the theatre region.

When I complained the staff just said 'yeah i know its been like this for a while'.
It would have been great to have known beforehand so that I could have chosen somewhere else to spend one of the most special evenings of my life.

Booked last minute and got a good rate of 120+VAT, although confirmation stated that the net price was 120.00 inclusive of VAT. The checkout staff would not have any of it even after I produced the confirmation sheet. As we were only staying 1 night (two rooms booked), didn't think that 36.00 was worth fighting over. Other wise very good overall, however, there was a very foul stench in the foyer and in the corridors of the entire hotel. The staff were apologetic, however, it was beyond their control.

Very nice hotel and well located The room...
Very nice hotel and well located. The room was lovely and a really good size for London - biggest issue we found was the staff. Not friendly and generally very unhelpful with some of our queries; check-in isn't until 3 p.m. so I had emailed ahead in advance to request an earlier check-in by 30 minutes, so that we could get to the afteroon matinee at 3.00 p.m. that we had tickets for. I never received a response and on arrival, with just 20 minutes to spare, we were told that the room wasn't ready. We therefore had to just leave everything and go. However, on our return the receptionist was much more understanding of our situation than the previous lady and upgraded our room free of charge. The room was lovely, very quiet and one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in away from home. We didn't have breakfast - @ 23 we felt we could better value elsewhere and we did. There are lots of nice places to eat very close by, so there is no need to pay inflated prices.

The hotel was in a very good location - overlooking the Thames, minutes from the tube etc. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and the room was a reasonable size and kept very clean. My only negative comment would be that it was probably closer to a four star hotel than a five- just little things were missing like having a doorman on at all times and the beds weren't turned down in the evening. I have rated it as good value for money as I paid a reduced rate. If I had paid the usual price for the room I would have been less happy!

The hotel is very conveniently located opposite Temple tube and within walking distnce of the theatre district and Covent Garden, The staff are very polite, efficient and friendly. The rooms are a little functional and spartan and the beds are a little hard. The bathroom I had was a bit cramped and the shower door was not very effective-water leaked onto the floor. The sink plug was difficult to work out. The restuarant was being refurbished but I had breakfast in the old area and it was fine. Hopefully the building work will soon be finsihed.

This hotel was in a fantastic location right on the Thames. The tube (temple) was just outside the hotel and so its easy to get to. We were upgraded to the premier river view suite. This is a a beautiful corner suite with a wrap around (very large) balcony. I'm not sure but I think we got the best suite in the hotel and considering the price we paid we were two very happy bunnies. We had the most beautiful views of London as to our right we could see the Millenium Eye, Houses of Parliament and the Millenium Bridge. Facing us was the Festival Hall and the OXO tower and to our left was Tower Bridge, St Paul's and Canary Wharf. It is a really lovely suite with an extra large bed and lounge area and floor to ceiling windows that allow you to have the best views at all times. The balcony is to die for as its really large with gorgeous furniture and you can really see for miles. We had champagne on the balcony as big ben struck 12 and this will always be a fab memory to have. The hotel service was excellent and discreet. I cannot rate the hotel highly enough. Do visit as you will not get better views of London than this hotel.
I did notice that the restauraunt was closed for renovation from the 1st - 18th Jan 2009. this did not affect us as we were eating out anyway and all the other dining options were still available in the hotel.
The hotel is quite contemporary in style and very luxurious inside with some interesting chic design touches in the public places.
Lovely lovely lovely!!

Fantastic location and views of the Thames from our sixth floor room. At night it look amazing. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Only problems I had were that the bath wasn't really what I expected but not really a problem. The Air Con fan was very noisy and I had to call down to reception to get it sorted but it was sorted out promtly for me. Now the other problem was that the king size bed was actually just two single beds pushed together, not what I expect from a five star hotel even though I did get it for a great price. All in all a good value hotel but I wouldn't have been happy at all If I had oaid full price for the room.

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our 5th Wedding anniversary on Saturday 5th April 2008. I know London pretty well as I was raised and currently live within 25 miles and have worked in the city for the last 20 years. We chose the hotel for it's location as we wanted to chill out around the covent garden area in the day and have dinner nearby in the evening. As the saying goes it's all about location location and this hotel proves its. Staff very friendly and efficient - well it is swiss after all!. As Temple tube station is so close by ( 30 second walk) you have great access for going further afield. As Temple tube station mainly serves the Mon - Fri working crowd it is open but empty at weekends so you don't have to fight you way to the the train like Covent Garden, Hyde Park, Leicester Square sations etc. Top tip. book a room view if you can and ask for 6th or 7th floor. We had room 607 which was great becasue you could see Tower Bridge, Millenium Wheel, Big Ben, Houses of parliment, festival hall etc... so the view alone was worth the money. It snowed the following morning so it gave the view a whole new, yet very romantic perspective Would definitely return. Highly recommended. Did not eat there but the afternoon tea acompanied to Jazz music looked good.
