Ideal weekend hotel

Although I would not recommend this hotel to all it was ideal for the purpose of somewhere inexpensive to rest your head. The rooms were clean, a little dated but serviceable.

My initial impression was that the hotel was a bit rough! But my room, although a little cramped, was clean and comfortable! As I was only sleeping there and not entertaining foreign dignitaries, I can't fault it and would recommend it to anyone! Breakfast was an unexpected delight!

Dodgy

Dodgy. Guest are obligated to leave key. Don't leave valuables in rooms as you might find your door been opened as we did, mixed reasons as to why it was open. Very arrogant receptionist/concierge. Petty excuse for a continental breakfast. Noisy rooms if you're staying on the road side. Picture looks nothing like what you actually stay in.... Ok if no other hotels available and you're taking nothing but the clothes on your back!
As a concerned parent I my father-in-law phoned management for an explanation about people entering the room he asked for management and got put though to a guy who said "To you I'm Paulo" he refused any explanation and just simply said, its his hotel and could go in any room he wanted any time he wanted. He was very discourteous and arrogant to the point that the feeling we got was 'we have your money and we don't care attitude'.

Perfect for a short business stay

After reading some of the reviews I was apprehensive.
The room was small but adequate. It was perfectly clean, so was the wet room.
The bed/linen was clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was enough for what I wanted (toast, cereal, juice etc). Nothing fancy but did the job.
Couldn't get on to the wifi in my room but easily available in the lobby area. Luckily I didn't have to much work to do.
All in all, for a short business stay and for the price the hotel covered all bases. Not the Ritz but definitely a fine hotel.

Good budget hotel in central London.

I stayed here on business. Very good budget hotel with a central location. The room appeared newly decorated. En suite was a loo / shower wet room, which worked well. A hook on the back of the door to hang a towel would be a useful addition. Nice LCD tv but channells were a bit haphazard. Overall very good.

Not a lot going for it

Accommodation was very basic. In the first room I had the shower didn't work. Had to put up with tools all over my room while they tried to fix it, before they finally gave up and let me move to another room. Staff weren't particularly keen to help. Rooms are small, there's no desk or table to work at and all furniture/decoration was old. Most of the place was a bit grubby (but not terrible).
Breakfast was ok. Wifi internet worked consistently and at a decent speed. It seemed safe.
I chose the hotel because of the location. I stayed 3 nights and very happy to leave by the end.

Awful !

When I've booked this hotel i knew it will not be fantastic after reading the rewievs but it was really dreadful !! We have had 3 bed room as we took our 4y old son.The room was small (which is not bad!) the wardrobe was sat on top of a shelve, why I do not know! Wardrobe and bed side tables were very dated and dirty.Bathroom was dirty and shower didn't work properly and the sink was the tiniest sink i've ever seen ! But none of that was as bad as the horrid noise of the banging radiator which sounded like someone is hitting it with a hammer combined with a laud lawn mower noice. When the people from room ustairs used the toilet it was like somene is flushing the toilet in our room and not to mention the creaking floor !!!!
For the £125 we paid we we're disgusted and I could really cry as it felt we threw all that money in the bin!! especialy as we could have had a lovely 4* hotel down at Doclands for the same price !!
When we spoke to man about the shower and noisy radiator at the reception his answer was Im new here ! which obviously wasn't the truth and im sure the people must have complained about this room before!
I can only advise everyone not to stay here as its trully awful place !

A budget hotel but OK

There's no doubt that this is a budget hotel - the room was tiny and the hotel in general need of maintenance (broken woodwork on my doorframe, for example). However, it was clean and well looked after, and the food was OK. The road outside is busy (a main route to Euston Road) and if you're on that side (as I was), the windows don't keep out the traffic noise.

Didn't live up to the website

Photos on the website make it look lovely. In reality it felt like a run down motel, small room, no wardrobe just a pole hanging in the corner, a hole in the wall stuffed with tissue, no double glazing so the constant traffic throughout the night was clearly audible. It was reasonably clean, although the toilet flush was damaged making it fiddly to press, and the towel rail was rusty. Good shower though!

Fine for overnight

Very close to Kings cross station so Ideal if you are coming down and need somewhere to stay overnight.
It looks like a mess when you walk in, they could to with improving the entrance (smelt like smoke and dirty) and the politeness of the staff.
Then get in some kind of 'death-lift', at this point i was worrying about the hotel.
However the actual room was fine. Bed was comfy enough, and clean room which was my worry. Are provided with towels and toiletries, water tea coffee and bisuits and a TV. Its not big but fine for an overnighter.
Felt safe, which was important as a solo visitor-however couoldn't lock the room?
Breakfast was nice enough, toast and lots of spreads, croisaints, ceral etc.
Perfect for a buisiness overnighter, not for a holiday, couple etc.

Exactly what I was looking for

My room was small but it was clean (infact it seemed newly decorated) and pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I just wanted somewhere cheap to rest between exploring the city and this was actually much better quality than i expected, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was as expected. Plus it's well situated, so despite my terrible sense of direction, fairly easy to find even when walking from miles away.

Overall fair price for mediocre accommodation. Wasn't 100% comfortable with the ground floor room so wouldn't leave valuables there. Noisy in the morning with doors banging etc' not well sound insulated. Bathroom was a bit grotty, not dirty just old! Other than that it was reasonable for the price I paid. Great for what it says and price wise, just don't leave anything valuable behind reception

Money wise-it's fantastic, cheap, centre of town and good laction with breakfast. Clean and with en suite.
Security wise - I put my laptop behind reception for them to safeguard - that was fully visible and easily accessible by anyone in breakfast. It was simply lying on a table which anyone could have snatched it easily. Not good. Especially since it'll be safer in my room.
Also would be helpful if the staff were fully competent English speakers when they don't really know what they're on about when to ask them about certain things...
So summing it up - go there, to sleep and eat for cheap but make sure you have your valuables.

Good for the money

Asked for ground floor room but it smelt strongly of paint as it had just been updated. The receptionist changed to a first floor room, which was OK as they had a lift. This room was a little tire looking but was informed it was being updated the day after we left. Breakfast was reasonable, and plenty of it, but my partner had difficulty negotiating the steps to the dining area as she is disabled. The room was adequate for the one night we stayed, but the traffic noise from the road outside was horrendous and continued all night, so we barely slept at all. If you want to stay there make sure you pack the ear plugs.

Perfectly reasonable

This hotel does what it sets out to do. It's clean, inexpensive, and in a very convenient location. Of course, the price doesn't buy you luxury - the rooms, beds, and breakfast are all well-described as 'basic'. Nevertheless, I'd happily stay here again if I needed an overnight stop in the area.

Great Value for Money

Stayed in a twin ensuite, small but clean and tidy. Light and Airy, facing the back of the building so no road noise. Can faintly hear the tubeif you dont have the tv or radio on, but nothing to prevent sleep and once you notice it it just kind of faded into the background. Breakfast was reasonable and quick to receive. The hotel was hot and stuffy, and even more so in the dining room. Guys on reception have to let you in when you buzz, never asked to see the card they issued on check in and so who knows if they'd just dish out your room key to anyone as they staff were always different so its not like they recognised us.

Swinton Hotel experience

The staff were outstandingly pleasant. The hotel is ideally placed for many areas of central London, within walking distance of Kings' Cross/St Pancras and (if you don't mind a longer walk) Euston. It offers a continental breakfast, with good coffee (albeit served in a teapot), but no other meals. There are reasonable restaurants nearby for that. The en-suite room was not grand, but it the bed and sheets were clean, with a shower cubicle only in the bathroom and that was clean as well. The only thing that let it down badly for me was that it wasbadly in need of re-painting. The bedroom walls were badly marked and there were no headboards so the wall above the bed was marked and a bit greasy. The remote control for the TV was dirty as well. Overall, I would stay there again, in spite of the reservations I have.

Clean and perfectly adequate room in handy location. Great value.

This is the third time I've stayed in a budget hotel in this area and The Swinton was by far the best. The room was small but adequate and surprisingly contained a double bed. The shower room was small but again perfectly adequate, en-suite and clean. As with all hotels in this area there was a little road noise but nothing excessive. The walls were thin but no real problem. Breakfast is basically, jam on toast with coffee or tea. No eggs or sausages etc. I need something more substantial for breakfast so ate out. For the price very good value beats hands down Hotel Central just around the corner. I was in Room 1 which was on the ground floor (the door behind my bed led out on to a patio). Marks given are taking into account the price (£64 a night).

You get what you pay for

The Swinton Hotel was the result of a last minute search for a cheap room for one night, and that's what I got. No frills, not brilliant, but clean and relatively relaxing.
The only downside was the embarrassingly poor security on the room door, it could almost be pushed open, with only a very, very basic locking mechanism that wouldn't have stopped anybody wanting to get in.Good job I had little of value (except) my own skin on the journey. So not a completely relaxed night by any means. Thank heavens for a movable table and array of objects jammed against the door!

Surprisingly nice room

I was in room 1, at the end of a never ending slightly shabby and narrow corridor which felt like I was going into the edge of nowhere. But the room had clearly been refurbished recently, was spotlessly clean and a decent size for the price. An odd selection of furniture and missing a lampshade and a bin in the bathroom, but unlike some budget hotels, there was plenty of basic toiletries and tea and coffee supplies. Poor tv signal. Plus my room had a door out to the inner courtyard seating area which would have been nice to use if I'd had more time. I only have a basic breakfast but the breakfast room was again very clean and well decorated, with attentive staff. Great location near Kings Cross and i walked to the West End in about 30 mins. If I knew that all the rooms were of this standard, I'd consider it again.

Decent, economic, central accom for single traveller

At £59 this is one of the cheapest central London hotels you'll find. The room was clean, not as tiny as I would have thought, a decent 3/4 sized bed, good shower/toilet attached. The Tv worked well and the room was happily comfortable. The only minor drawbacks were some plant noise (a boiler or something) and the room took a bit of finding in what was a rabbit warren of a hotel.
