We travelled to London from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The reason we booked this hotel was that it was affordable and had a great central location. We also did not need to change Tube lines and took the Picadilly Line from Heathrow straight to Gloucester Road. This is very convenient if you have quite a fair bit of luggage. Upon exit from Gloucester Road station, it was only a short walk to the hotel. The room is small but clean and everything works. Just remember to bring your own toiletries! The breakfast was pretty average, would have preferred much stronger coffee. Overall, splendid value for the room and the location the hotel is in.

Can't fault the service. Was well looked after, constantly plied with fruit, cheese, cakes and so on, but strange combinations. 'Toast' was whatever types of bread they could get, including naan bread, sliced, non-sliced, brown, white. They do know how to do fried eggs though, but fried pork?! Not my idea of an 'English' breakfast, but still filling.

They charged £3 for the key and wouldnt refund before 0700 hrs when I left as there was no reception person before 7. It stinks of cigarettes and there are various characters hanging about in the corridors. There would appear to be squatters in the building next door making a din all night . Stay away!!

This hotel was in a great location about 2 mins walk from the tube station. It was great to stay in a hotel with some character and it was nice not to be in a big chain hotel. All of the staff were warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was more than enough to set you up for a day of sight seeing in London. I think it was great that the guests could use the kitchen to prepare their own food and there was a fridge to store your own food in.

OK, so it's London. It was pretty short notice and we were only after somewhere to sleep. We paid 127 for a small room with a small double and a single, we didn't know that was what we were getting, we had booked as 3 singles. The hotel is pretty dirty and grim but the area is nice. The staff aren't especially bad but it's not hotel service as you know it, they are keen to get back to their card games or their chats with the odd characters that just seem to be sitting on the stairs and generally hanging around the place. I'd never stayed anywhere that demanded a 3 deposit for a key before though, so that was a novelty.
The room itself wasn't the worst I'd ever stayed in, though perhaps for the money it was. The shower just about worked and there was no soap. Holes in windows and doors to adjoining rooms were blocked up with wallpaper stuck on with masking tape. It was tiny and the beds just about fitted, quite how it was really supposed to sleep 3 adults I'm not sure. The smell was not too great either.
In short it was the sort of hotel that made you look enviously at the others on the street you didn't book in time, laugh and be glad you were only there for one night.

For an inexpensive, centrally located hotel it would be difficult to better this. The warm hospitality of the proprietors and their family was second to none. I was deeply touched by the interest shown in my son, and the clear importance of families and of making people feel welcome and at ease - a truly civilising attitude which owes more to European warmth and faith than to British reserve. The room, though basic, had great character and everything necessary for an overnight stay. At breakfast we were treated like honoured guests. The abundance and quality of the food was truly amazing: a wonderful varied abundance of fruit and cakes and pastries as well as the "full English" cooked, promptly brought and kindly but unobtrusively offered. My son's vegetarian and my dairy-free diet were more than adequately catered for. We loved the friendly, communal tables, the warm attentiveness of the staff, and the sense that there was a deeply spiritual and personal dimension to the meal. Had we been in more, we would have been able to help ourselves to hot drinks and fruit, or to cook in the kitchen during the day/evening. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, and would happily stay again.

No frills accomodation. Family room for 6 people was OK but not so sure about other rooms in hotel. Friendly reception. Hotel could do with regular maintenance - ensuite toilet door loose and wc cistern flush handle also loose. I managed to fix both myself.
