Good value in a central location

Excellent customer service, helpful and friendly staff; room was fine, comfy bed and quiet room at back of property. Quite a climb to the top floor, but worthwhile for the relative peace and quiet. Only negative about the room was the rather antiquated shower (using mixer taps), which was rather a pain to get the temperature right. Otherwise, a very good value room in a concenient central location, and I'd stay there again for that reason alone.

My sister-in-law stayed overnight and found it a very enjoyable experience. The room was clean and very comfortable. The tea/coffee factilities and bathroom toiletries were plentiful and of good quality. This was an excellent short break hotel, convenient for the tube and London sights.

Would have liked a bath in the en suite if possible. Our bed had a hard ridge running down the middle where the two beds were joined which made it quite uncomfortable.

Reasonable price, central and good value for money

The St George Hotel is in a great location, an easy walk to Marble Arch and Oxford Street. The staff were friendly and helpful, and although the single room was small it was clean and had everything I needed for a business trip – decent free wifi, a table to work on, a comfy bed and a clean en suite shower room. The continental breakfast was very good. If glamour or up-to-the minute luxury aren't a priority for your stay, I can't see a reason not to stay at this hotel.

St George Hotel, London

The St George Hotel is perfectly located for all West End activities being literally 5 minutes from Oxford Streets Bond Street or Marble Arch tube stations. Booked as an overnight room following an evening theatre trip, value for money and location couldn't be quibbled with. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly and upgraded our room on arrival as the standard room booked was not ready. The room was clean and tidy, bed comfortable and bathroom facilities adequate and clean. The only bad point is the decoration and furniture in the room looked like they had been acquired from a furniture exchange 10 years ago which gave the room a very shabby appearance to the extent that I'd have been very disappointed if Id actually booked this room as an upgrade. Breakfast was buffet style, with plenty of choice and adequate, cooked breakfast was available as an upgrade for about £5. Overall Id say for a room in the middle of the west end that actually we spent very little time in this the St George Hotel was good value for money and perfectly adequate; but for a special weekend away you would be disappointed.

Nice little place.

I booked here late after browsing the internet - usually sceptical of the old Georgian houses which have been changed into small hotels ( after staying in a lot of bad ones!). This one was good. Staff were very friendly when I phoned earlier to say I would be late, and very friendly when I arrived. It is a very small hotel with no bar or food facilities apart from breakfast - but that was fine, I knew what I was getting. The room was fine - good size and very clean with good facilities. Continental breakfast was very good, with a full English available for a small supplement. It was away from the shops, but only 10 minutes walk to Marble Arch tube station and Oxford St. If you are looking for good basic facilities this is fine and I would certainly stay here again.

The room itself was clean and well furnished. There was no en-suite. There was private bathroom but it was on the next floor. That was an inconvenience in the middle of the night
The hotel does not have a lift. Reaching the top floors with a heavy suitcase was a struggle

Second stay

I stayed here once before in the last twelve months. The staff are friendly and smile! The location is good, an easy walk to Oxford Street or Marylebone Road in the opposite direction. Gloucester place is frequently used by Taxi's so getting one is not too difficult. Bedrooms are comfortable and the breakfast, served in a nice bright clean room in the basement, does the job.

Review of St George Hotel

Room was satisfactory but en suite was not that good, there was a broken tap and no lock on the door. Staff were a bit gruff.
The breakfast was of low quality- cheap instant coffee served in coffee pots, pretending to be filter coffee and breakfast consisted of things such as fruit out of a tin and cornflakes. Unfortunately, breakfast was spoilt by a member of staff putting on the television really loud, showing the football, not what you need at 9AM on a Sunday morning.

Fast check in late at night. Bigger room than expected, away from street so nice and quiet. Room was clean. Bathroom decor a little old - mould on bath sealant, but still clean. Breakfast was continental - you can pay for a cooked breakfast - but there was a decent selection of bread, pastries, fruit and yoghurt available.

Excellent value for monsy

This hotel has an excellent central location at the back of Oxford street, is close to many resturants and about 5 mins walk from Marble Arch tube station.
The rooms were clean and good quality. The breakfast was good and for only £5 extra you could upgrade to a full English breakfast.
There was free wi-fi and a fridge in the room
The TV was a bit poor, but who needs a tv in this location.
All in all, this was a good quality hotel in a brilliant location I would definately use it again.
In fact I don't really want to post this review as I don't want it to be full next time I book!

Ok but not 4 star

Nice accommodation but a few small problems:
Shaving light was missing (the whole unit);
Remote control for TV did not work;
Only five channels on the TV;
Shower was a bit like being dribbled on by a small child - rather weedy;
Wasn't even offered an English breakfast although they were apparently available.
Really more like a good three star. Definitely not 4 star.

In transit -

A very comfortable and quiet room on the third floor and the bed was wonderful. St George was easy to find from Marylebone Station (about 15-20 minutes dragging a suitcase!) The shower was excellent in the afternoon but during the early morning rush it was difficult to get a continuous hot stream of water. Continental breakfast was excellent with good choices available from the buffet.

Overnight stay

I just wanted a stop over close to the centre. I prefer the smaller hotels which have more character in the quiter locations. The hotel is on road that wasn't too busy, but my bedroom was on the front and it was too noisy to open the window and the room got too warm.
I chose a small double instead of a single and I am not sure I was any better of.
The hotel iteself is good, clean and recommended - but would opt for a room on the back next time.

Great Place for City Break

I stayed at The George with my teenage daughter. The location was great. The room was clean and spacious and the on-suite was excellent. We were on the 3rd Floor and had to climb 63 stairs up to our room which would be the only down side for families with small children or elderly customers, as there was no lift. Breakfast was also good. We would definitely recommend to freinds and stay here again.

I stayed in a twin at the top of the hotel and the room itself was lovely - big, comfortable, well-maintained and clean. The bed was comfortable and the trafic noise not too intrusive. The only complaint I have is that the shower was little more than a dribble! The breakfast room was nice and airy and there was a reasonable selection of food. All of the staff that I encountered were friendly and helpful and I would happily stay again.

Great place to stay for Central London

I stayed in a single room, on the 3rd floor, with private bathroom/loo on floor above (I knew that would be the case from reading a previous review so not a surprise; and it wasn't a major hassle). The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and the flatscreen TV worked; and there was enough room to do a little work at the desk too. There were several restaurants and pubs within close working distance, and it was perfectly located for my central London meeting the next day. Compared to what my colleagues got elsewhere, for a lot more money, this was a good deal. I imagine it could get a bit hot in the summer, but then so do most hotels in central London unless you really splash out. Would definitely stay here again.
