I got upgraded to a double, so for 75 pounds a night in London, that is a good deal. The room was small and getting there with any big luggage might be a problem. The halls are winding and narrow, so pack light. Even though small, it was very nicely furnished and super clean. It had a nice sized wardrobe, writing desk, microwave and fridge. The bathroom had a nice rain shower even though the shower stall was a bit tight. No bath for those looking for one, only a shower. The view was not so good, but that doesn't matter really. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only negative about this place is that it is so small with tight quarters. In the morning, everything is very loud. You here cleaning staff up and down the stairs, in the room above you etc. So don't plan on sleeping in and you'll be ok. Otherwise, this was an exceptional value for money and a comfortable nights stay.

When I arrived the room was not ready despite the booking being made 2.5 hours earlier. They tried to blame their head office staff for going before 11pm and not getting the Late Rooms booking sent through, none of which I really cared about at 1am. What hotel leaves rooms dirty until someone turns up? After a 15 minute wait I finally got in the room. The air conditioning was broken so I had a noisy fan in the room. There was an incredibly strong smell of air freshener which it turned out was masking the terrible stink from the shower and toilet room. The TV didn't work and they couldn't fix it. I asked if the room was a quiet one because I only had 4 hours to sleep. They put me in room 005 which was on the ground floor and right next to the road. They had no double glazing so I spent most of my time lying in bed listening to dustbin lorries and cars with stereos blaring out going past. When I asked for another room I was told that no others were available. I won't ever use this hotel again.

Sussex Gardens was very close to Paddington tube station, however I walked passed the hotel twice as the very faint hotel name in the window was very hard to see. Other hotel names in the street were easy to identify. The Metropolis should invest in good signage. The lobby floor was extremely slippery for us ladies in heals, but was bright and impressive on entry. Reception staff friendly and offered help with luggage. Room was lovely but bathroom very comapact but designed perfectly for its space. TV didn't work very well and kept switching itself off. Air conditioning personally controlled gave me the independence I wanted. Overall a very good accommodation based in central London for all the attractions and local amenities. A very pleasant stay. Would definately go back there again.

The hotel was easy to find. The staff were very welcoming and extremely helpful. When we arrived before normal check in time, the receptionist advised us of baggage service and the refreshments in the light and modern reception area. We took advantage of the baggage facilities whilst we went sightseeing. When we returned we checked in without any delay and went straight to our room. The room was compact but very modern and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The staff were aware of my birthday celebration and provided a fruit tray with a message from the manager wishing me Happy Birthday. Nice personal touch I thought.
We didn't stay at the hotel for an evening meal as we decided to go to the pub directly across from the hotel called the Monkey Puzzle which was a lovely local pub with an friendly atmosphere.
Breakfast was a buffet style and had a good selection of both hot and cold breakfast options.
Both the room and the hotel itself were clean and my partner and I had a very nice stay. I would book this hotel again.

This was overall a very good experience, only let down slightly by the fact that there is still a leftover smell of cigarettes from the time before the smoking ban. Over time I'm sure this will go, but it is still noticeable occasionally. Other than that, a very good hotel, with polite and courteous staff. I still think that 85.00 is a lot of money for a bed for the night, but then this is London and that's what it costs...

This really is leading the field for quality budget accommodation in London. Great rooms, though the cheap ones tend to be in the basement - don't let that put you off - you still get a window and the decor and furnishings are bang up to date. The only hit is breakfast - it's extortionately priced. But being in Paddington, there's loads of options.

this is a beautifully furnished hotel, obviously recently done. Lovely reception and my room was clean, smart and very well decorated.
My room was tiny though - it was only one night for business, but you wouldn't want to spend a week there - but enough space for a beautiful en suite with brilliant shower, and a toilet squeezed in so I had to sit sideways on it!.
I didn't eat there, but loads of cafes in the area. Hotel in a good location, shame about the dreadful customer service. My colleague checked in one day after me and the hotel had messed up the reservation and kept us waiting for ages. There was supposed to be an iron and ironing board in the room and staff almost insisted in coming to check that it wasn't there instead of taking my word. My room was OK apart from the non-view into the service shaft at the back of the hotel and the early morning sound of Musak coming from the dining room. Also the fire alarm went off for a short time early on both morning - not a good wake up call. Not good value for money.

Although this was a very nice hotel, with pleasant staff and a very clean room, the stay was spoiled by the lack of Air Conditioning during what was a very warm two nights. The hotel said it was due to some sort of power requirement problem between 11pm and 7am - which sounds like a load of rubbish to me.
The rooms were well appointed, if a little small, with large plasma TVs (giving off more heat though!), comfy beds and decent showers. Notice i said rooms, that is because we had to move from the first one due to a small water leak from the room above. The staff were very helpful and immediately gave us another room without any fuss.
Breakfast was disappointing, being a buffet-style serve-yourself affair, the food was only just warm and the eggs very unappetising. There's plenty of small cafes and restaurants around the corner though, so try one of those instead.
The fridge in the room didn't seem to be cooling very well. I asked reception about it as we had some Champagne for a treat - and they sent someone up to collect it and refrigerated it for us. When we came in later, they brought it up complete with ice bucket and glasses, so was happy with the service. They explained that the fridge only works if the room key is in the wall slot, so get a spare room key and leave it in the wall slot if you go out!
Overall, it was a decent hotel with excellent staff let down by the aircon issue. So only stay here if it is cool overnight.

A cheap hotel should at least be able to offer a comfortable nights sleep.
Unfortunately this hotel decided on the arrival of a summer heatwave that air-conditioning would be unavailable during the night (from 11pm to 7am, the times most residents would be in the hotel). This resulted in an unbearable nights sleep, despite the arrival of a totally inadequate and noisy fan at 5am in the morning after an unhelpful call to reception in the middle of the night.
It's also rather cramped as you'd expect in London, but this exacerbated the situation with the air con.
On the plus side the location is brilliant. Paddington Underground is a ten minute walk, but there are plenty other hotels in this location to choose from.

They did ste me up to stay with their sister hotel near Paddington Station for the same money that i had booked into the SHHP with a complimentry taxi to and from their other hotel, however, since the tubes were on strike, this meant that instead of being able to walk to and from work, I now had to wait huge amounts of time for taxi's instead. I was not pleased at all with this experience. I waited a long time to be served due to other guests arrangements being messed up and was unimpressed with the experience all round.

I would recommend this hotel as very well appointed, good facilities and excellent vallue for money. The downside - my room faced out into a light well which had been sealed in as an atrium with the corridor right outside the window, so not only was there no access to fresh air, but also privacy was an issue in terms of having to keep the drapes closed at all times to avoid people looking in from the corridor.
In addition the air conditioning was turned off centrally between 23:00 and 06:00 due to some sort of circuit overload problem, which during a week where London was experiencing temperatures in the mid to high twenties meant for an uncomfortable night's sleep, particularly without fresh air from opening the window.
Oh, and don't bother with the breakfast at 12.00-15.00 - just go around the corner to the local cafe which will serve you the same sort of English breakfast for a fiver !

All in all a reasonable stay which was good value for money. I don't see how the size of the room made it de-lux: you could hardly squeeze around the bottom of the bed to get in the other side...and i'm a size ten! However, it did appeal to my somewhat callous sense of humour that when my partener turned over in the night, he banged his head on the bedside cabinet. I know...you shouldn't but we do. So, all the fun of camping with air conditioning. Would I stay there again? Yes, but I'd have to lose some weight first. For the money, it was fine.

Great little hotel with friendly helpful staff. Rooms clean and modern, and the English breakfast was great. But why does the single traveller have to be treated as second class. Are all the single rooms in the basement, a few feet above the Bakerloo line and just below reception with its creaky laminate floor? My first room was so small I could touch all four walls from the middle. Floor space was too small to put an ironing board up. As it was business I needed the iron so was moved to a (slightly) larger room. All in all it was clean and comfortable and I would consider staying again, but ask for a room on a different floor.

Checked in for one night as had early meeting the next day. Room was on the small side, but had everything you need: double bed, nice linen, big TV on wall, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, and all finished to a very high standard. The bathroom, too, although smaller than I would have liked, was fitted to an excellent standard, with complimentary shampoo and shower gel. Check in was effortless, the staff very helpful. Wake up call was bang on time. All in all, a gem of a hotel in the middle of London and for a truly excellent price I paid 65 via LateRooms, though offers on the hotel's own website came in slightly cheaper. Highly recommended.

I found the hotel remarkable quality for the price. The room was small, yes (though my colleague's room - at the same price - was larger, so they're not all the same) but thoughtfully and tastefully furnished. There was a desk, though the room wasn't really big enough to use it as such, so it became really just a place for tea/coffee etc. My colleague's, being roomier, was more practical. The bathroom featured beautiful fittings and everything was immaculately clean. Best of all was the bed - the most comfortable ever! All in all this is a real find. If you need a room you're going to spend some time relaxing in then you may go a little stir-crazy, but if you're going to be out much of the time and simply need a very nice place to lay your head, then I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Stayed here several times before - it's a consistently good standard and certainly good value for central London - although the rooms aren't the biggest, they're clean, beds are comfortable amd the facilities are good (including free Wifi, LCD TV, tea/coffee facilities, complementary toiletries). I was off the atrium on the ground floor this time, which meant absolutely no road noise, but did get some noise from guests/staff outside the room (and you can hear the underground rumbling in the distance below). But overall this is a solid choice for those on a budget, as evidenced by the fact I keep going back!

Have reviewed previously, and the same comments apply - polite service, rooms spotlessly clean and well-furnished, with comfy beds. En suites good too. Had a problem with TV not working properly first night, which was sorted. Rooms at front do have some road noise, and it's probably not worth paying the extra for breakfast - it's just too pricey and there's better options for a lot less locally. But for room only at 59 a night for en suite, this is good value, and the fact I've gone back several times says much.

Hotel was centrally located,
The beds were comfortable but the rooms were ridiculously small with very little space to move around. The tv's although quite new were prone to shutting themselves on and off (even switching themselves on in the middle of the night and when we were out of the room) the rooms were decorated tastefully but the hotel staff made it very difficult to enjoy the stay. Every morning from 9:30 the housekeeping staff would be knocking on the hotel door and this would continue all the way until 13:00. There was no signs provided to be hung on the door to indicate that we didnt want to be disturbed and no matter how many times they cleaners were told that we didnt want the room cleaned/didnt want to be disturbed they still
kept coming back and knocking. Add this to the fact that every night we arrived back at the hotel and found that the card for our room lock didnt work and had to trek downstairs for it to be changed. For this to happen once is an understandable mistake, every night is not understandable. To make matters even worse, even though we were to leave on the Monday morning, we were called on the Sunday to inquire why we had not vacated our room.

The hotelsd in this part of London are converted large town houses and it is hard to move into the more traditional hotel feel. However, the reality check. I booked the exec single room which is compact, but more than enough room for one person, the suite is well equipped with sky tv, movies & 24hr internet connection. I had a great nights sleep in a comfy bed and woke up to an invigorating shower. The hotel is in a great location and offers easy access to the tube and Londons top attractions.

This was the second time i've stayed here and i would recommend booking the luxury room over the executive to any business travellers. The executive rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed but the extra space and inclusive breakfast, not to mention the complimentary fruit bowl, wine and chocolates on arrival are a great bonus. The one disappointing aspect of the hotel is the 'gym' which is essentially a converted room with a fairly low quality bike, cross trainer and treadmill in. If you're not planning on a workout that shouldn't bother you at all.

We picked this hotel due to price and closeness to Marylebone/West End, and I was therefore a little worried when I read an earlier review slating it! However in a street of hotels this is definately one of the best. It has a modern feel to reception, bright and colourful (just missing a disco ball really) and the staff were prepared, friendly enough and efficient. The room itself was by no means big, but enough for 1 night. Nice quality feel to fixtures etc and decoration. The only negative was during a cold snap in January it was a very cold room, and the AC/heater unit had to be on full blast - which was pretty noisy. Also, avoid booking a taxi via reception you'll pay over the odds - just step outside and grab a cab!

Bit of a fiasco. Arrived at the hotel to find no rooms available, was offered a room at a sister hotel about a mile away. Upon arrival the other hotel had no idea I was coming, they then tried to offload a single room on me after I booked and paid for a double. All in all, it took me in excess of 90 minutes to get to my room. Nothing wrong with Late rooms website, this all worked well. Got the feeling that moving clients to a lesser hotel was a regular occurance at this establishment.

At the price offered through Laterooms - whcih was a total of 148 for 2 nights accommodation, the hotel offered outstanding value for money. The room was not very large - it was impossible to open the wardrobe door fully because of the space available, but all of the fittings were of a modern, very high standard, the bathroom was especially well equipped with a very efficient shower, and bearing in mind we required the room only for sleeping and were out all day, it was ideal. The big plasma screen TV was also a welcome asset, although the only way you could watch it was from bed - a new experience for us.

I was warned that London hotel rooms are tiny so was prepared for this. It was not a room that you could laze about in - but for a busy visit to London, it was fine. (I am not sure how you would feel if you were a very big person though!) It was well designed, the decor was of a high standard and everything I needed was there. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower were great, I could make a cup of tea when I wanted to. I also really liked being able to alter the heating. The only questionable thing was that the lights flickered at times - not sure why! The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have liked information on the latest exhibitions, etc. - perhaps in the seating area in the foyer. The free internet access was impressive - and you could get information from there. I liked the situation of the hotel, being set well back from the busy road, within an area of attractive quieter streets but within a 10 minute walk of Hyde Park or Oxford Street. With the late booking offer, it was certainly very good value. Overall, I would recommend the hotel and would use it again.

Discount available via Late Rooms made this otherwise expensive hotel affordable. Couldn't really see how usual room rates would offer value for money but at the price I paid, I was satisfied. Some points of note: Had to ask reception to switch off/turn down music as it was audible in our ground floor room; had to ask for remote control to TV as it was missing from room; air conditioning had been de-activated from a central location in the morning so was only operational during afternoon/evening; electrics appeared to be wired incorrectly as main light switch only activated a tiny downlight underneath a cupboard - no light switch at all would switch on the ceiling lights - and we tried the lot! There were some builder's scribblings on one of the floor tiles; a rolled up tissue wedged in the door frame of the bathroom and a wonky towel rail. Some wine/drinks were available in the room but there wasn't a price list so we didn't feel tempted. Sounds like I'm being picky? Not really, all points were minor, staff were great and price was fine. I'd recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

I needed a hotel that was near Paddington Station for an early journey on the 4th October. I got that. The hotel is a few minutes - about 5 I think - walk away. The hotel is new and therefore in very good condition. So new in fact that there were a few teething problems with my room; A leaky shower and a bag dispenser that kept falling off the wall in the bathroom, but I advised staff of this and they advised that these would be fixed and are known problems. The room I was allocated was quite simply, the smallest hotel room I have ever been in and I've been in a lot. One of those where if you open the wardrobe of bathroom door, you effectively trap yourself on one side of it. If there's two of you trying to get ready, there's a lot of "sorrys" and "excuse mes" which can be rather frought with a hangover and a train to catch. I'm sure the hotel has got bigger rooms though. There's no hotel bar either and the restaurant is more like a canteen, but as I said, I was only after a hotel that was near Paddington Station for an early journey on the 4th October... and I got that.

The was a nice sized wardrobe and a desk with coffee and tea and a laptop point.
5minute walk from paddington station and plenty of small shops and fast food restaurantson the streets near by.
Would definitely reccommend the hotel and would be happy to stay again.

Brilliant, except that the phones AND internet all went down for a day - hopefully that disaster wonm't happen again. The lobby decor is annoying, but one doesn't have to look at it for long. Staff are friendly and helpful, though not quite as knowledgeable as an out-of-towner might wish.

We booked a club room which was modern and clean. A nice touch was a free half bottle of wine. Staff were friendly and we could leave our bag before check in and after check out. Close to Paddington tube and within walking distance of Marylebone station.

The rooms in this hotel are very small! You can barely move around in the room. My room was actually within the hotel, which does not have any Windows that go outside, only out to the hotel corridors. So that meant no fresh air, and as you can imagine with the rooms being very small, it got very warm!! They do have Air Conditioning in the room, but when you switch on, it turns the room ice cold, and the thermostat is difficult to work. However, the room is very nice and modern with a great LCD TV. It has about 55 Channels too, so you cant get bored easily.
The Gym is very small indeed, just like the rooms! It only has 3 Machines, a Treadmill, Cross Trainer and Bike.
I would stay here for maybe a night or 2 at a push, but if you hate being in small spaces, this is definately for you!

There was no multi-gym or free weights.
Room was a bit small but had all the mod-cons.
Would stay here again, as a last alternative.

I had a three night business stay and was very happy with my Deluxe Double at under 100 per night. I believe they redecorated recently and it shows - very clean and tidy. The room was ample and had a desk, chairs, good wardrope space, tea/coffee and a mini fridge. Plenty of freeview channels to watch and the air-con was a welcome addition. The shower room was a little small but not uncomfortably so - excellent power shower, very stable water temperature and pressure. I found the staff helpful and friendly but they failed to get my wireless network operating which was a lsight annoyance having expected its use (kept dropping every 5 minutes for about 10 minutes). On food I was dining out each of the nights and started early each day so never ate in the hotel. Local shops on Edgeware Road only 5 minutes walk for Sommerfield fruit, water, wine - handy.
Both Edware and Paddington tube stations were within 5 minutes walk also - very convenient.
No downside fo rthe money paid and will stay again

When I arrived at 11:30pm, they had "lost" my booking despite my printed confirmation. First it was blamed on late rooms, then it turned out that someone in the hotel's "reservations team" had made a reservation for 2009 instead of 2008. Half an hour later, they made another booking for me and informed me that I could pay 29 more than the price I booked for. I insisted on the late rooms price and they finally gave me a key. It then took 3 trips up and down the elevator (with someone from the hotel) and the night manager for them to FIND my room. They actually spent 20 minutes trying to locate it!!! No wonder, it was at the back of the hotel up 2 sets of stairs and had no window to the outside. BEWARE before you book, you will encounter extreme incompetence. Pity - because it looks nice and the bed was great once I finally got to it.

The only problem for us, were the fire doors just outside our room (309). Every time someone went in or out of these doors, they made a very loud banging noise which woke us up several times in the night. I did mention it to a staff member, but not at the front desk. They need to be fitted with pads of some kind to prevent this banging. This is why I shall not stay here again and/or recommend the hotel to a friend.

Just opened so I think we were subject to a few teething problems. Paid the extra for a luxury room and was given a non luxury room - complained and they moved us and gave us half a bottle of wine to say sorry. Some of the things included on the laterooms room description were not included in this room - robes being one example.
Was then asked to pay for breakfast - i told them it was inclusive and had to produce my late rooms confirmation email to prove this. They took a copy and said that was OK but I would have liked to have eaten it in peace without being asked to sign for it midway through, then have a member of staff ask me again whilst brandishing here list of rooms at me.
Staff slightly abrupt and directed us wrong way to tube station.
Breakfast room was not busy (and decorated in a very sterile fashion) and hot food had oboviously been out a while and was therefore not very hot.
Room was nice - decent size for London. But similar available for same price on laterooms so would probably try somewhere else next time.
The hotel had just opened when we stayed so was probably undergoing some teething problems. I had no towel in my room, which I only noticed as I got back to my hotel room after midnight and I had to be up early the next morning. It took them quite a while to bring the towel up. But the hotel is great value for money considering its location.

Very friendly staff on arrival - arrived early so room wasn't ready but vey quick to offer to hold luggage. Room was very small but very clean and decent decor. This was the first day the hotel was open for these owners and some refurbishment work was still ongoing - nothing major. There were a couple of teething problems - no remote for TV (very quickly remedied) room not serviced after 1st night, therefore tea and milk not replenished. When we arrived back to room late evening it took some time for the reception staff to locate the tea replenishments but they had run out of milk, I remedied this myself by walking 2 mins to shop round corner. Overall I am sure they will overcome these few minor problems and it will be a decent place to stay for a couple of nights.

Apparently when we stayed here the hotel had only just opened and although it has the potential to be a very nice hotel it was certainly not ready for the public. We paid in good faith for a room that had a widescreen TV that was not functioning at all. We had to go down to reception (the phone in our room wasn't working) and were assured that someone would be down to look at it in 10 minutes. No such person ever arrived. We had to wait 15 minutes to check in as it was. Having said that, we complained at reception the following morning and were given 2 complimentary cooked breakfasts. Perhaps with time, it will be truly ready!

As a frequent visitor to London and a frequent traveller , I would have to say that my 5 week stay here was excellent in this hotel.
I found the staff to be friendly and overall trustworthy, given I used this as a base and did 2 trips away.
It is what you make of it yourself, and although not having all the 5 star facilities available, the location and proximity to tube, bus etc is the first consideration to be made should guests be coming to London for short stays and sightseeing.
I found the breakfast to be good, rooms to be serviced very well, with attention given to details.
As I read previous comments made by others, I wonder what was wrong with their bed...mine was fine...very comfortable.
On a final note , the 24 hour reception is very important for security reasons
particularly if travelling on your own.
I most certainly would stay again on my next visit here..and so would my friends who visited me here.
Well done!!!!! Keep up your most admirable standard..many thanks Esther Kahn _ Melbourne Australia xx
