A great place to stay in SW7

My overriding memory of staying here was that the staff were all so helpful and friendly. I checked-in late afternoon arriving a bit the worse-for-wear in rather grubby motorcycle gear. This is normally a guarantee of an indifferent or frosty reception. Not so at this hotel, where the staff were welcoming, efficient and helpful. The room was warm, clean and very comfortable, even luxurious compared to the type of room one expects for the price although, I should add, that this was a discounted late booking. I didn't use the restaurant facilities so cannot comment. All-in-all a good place to stay and one which I would recommend.

Alternative to Central London Prices

Overall this hotel is value for money. Good siting - a short walk from Earls Court underground.
Staff friendly & helpful,
Small niggles we didn't expect. The top grade club rooms have "mood lighting" - this means lots of darkened areas which really need to have means of ancilliary lighting.
Good to see a hair drier provided but no immediate mirror to assist in the drying process.
"Free" club lounge snacks are really side dishes (sandwiches or pastries would have been better).
Would we stay again - probably but would have checked out whether there were rooms which avoided the above couple of niggles

Not quite a 'boutique' experience

We felt the write up about the hotel room built us up to expect a little more than the reality, it really was not 'boutique', more 'corporate' - a 'fruit basket' consisted of one apple and one orange, the designer bedding really was just a small throw etc - but it was clean, tidy and the staff were helpful. our biggest complaint was that the gap between the end of the bed and the wall was so narrow, you couldn't help but catch the edge of the bed every time you went past to get to the bathroom. We think that these Club Rooms should be downgraded, the Club Rooms on the opposite side of the corridor were clearly more spacious and probably deserved the tag. I left constructive criticism on the feedback form and the Duty Manager did text immediately to apologize, which was appreciated. It is in a good location, quiet, warm and we would consider using this hotel again. The Club Lounge snacks were fantastic!!

Best Western Shaftesbury

Very wierd having to go into another building up the road for my room! Reception very slow.
Room nicely appointed but very small. Difficult to walk round bed without hitting leg on corner of bed. Another customer at reception was asking for the first aid box as he had cut his leg on the corner of the bed. I understood why when I got to my room

Truly awful and smelly

The hotel contacted me and tried to move me to a sister hotel on the day of my stay. When I refused and threatened to cancel they said the original booking would stand. When I arrived at the hotel they had no record of this and were not expecting me - there was no room in the main hotel so I stayed 'over the road'. Consequently I was given the smallest double bedroom I have ever seen. There was not room to swing a cat, the television reception was so bad it was impossible to watch anything and there was no hotel information pack to be found. I eventually ordered some room service and got the most disgusting shepherds pie and undressed salad I have ever had. The bathroom was tiny and filthy and the smell coming from the toilet overwhelming - I complained but they had nowhere else to put me. It was stale urine and trully appalling (and I'm pretty easy going). The shower was inadequate, dirty and the doors were broken. What saved the day was an excellent buffet breakfast in the morning in the main hotel (I wish I'd had a room there) and a Manager who offered me a free room when I complained - they also promised to change the catering supplier!

Sunday Stay

Only downside was having told the receptionist that it was room only booking she gave us the impression that if we filled in one of their forms we would receive a complimentary breakfast which they then tried to charge us for. Everything else was excellent and on the plus side when we told them this they did not charge us.

Great Value

Club rooms are of excellent standard and very competitively priced for London. Location is very convenient for Earls Court underground station. Staff are efficient and friendly.
