Where it is
As you will no doubt be able to gather from the name, Sanctum Soho is located in the beating heart of the West End, set just behind Regent Street just a short stroll from world famous Hamleys of London. If you venture out of your sumptuous room (more about that later) you have everything you could ever need right on your doorstep with dozens of restaurants, bars, shops and theatres including several Michelin star winners. Hibiscus has two such stars and is one of London's most popular restaurants, receiving consistently good reviews and a place in The Good Food Guide's top 10 restaurants in the UK. With a three-course set menu lunch from just £33.50 it also offers excellent value for money and certainly worth a visit.
What to Expect - The Welcome
Sanctum Soho claims to the London's first "Rock and Roll" boutique hotel, and featured in a 2009 TV programme charting the ups and downs of owner Mark Fuller's latest London venture. From the moment you step into this beautifully restored Georgian building, you know that no expense has been spared to bring guests the style they expect of a 5* hotel. No wonder then that it is often frequented by celebrities and rock stars who come to experience, among other things, the fabulous rooftop terrace.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the intimate lounge bar leads out onto an alfresco hydro spa so you can relax and unwind any time of the day. If you don't fancy getting wet, there's always the private basement cinema with 45 luxurious seats and 4m HD screen - and of course no cinema would be the same without its own bar
What to Expect - The Rooms
There are only 30 rooms at Sanctum Soho and each one of them is individually designed with the upmost attention to detail and uncompromising style. All rooms feature a state of the art entertainment system (including a Nintendo Wii) with flat screen TV, iPod dock, mini bar and New York style wet room while Superior and Deluxe rooms benefit from being slightly larger and have a writing desk. Junior Suites are bigger still, with mosaic mirror glass columns, seating areas and freestanding baths on a bed of LEDs to create a night sky effect while you lie back and relax.
What to Expect - Dining
As with most 5* hotels in London, Sanctum Soho has its own fine dining restaurant, No.20, run by Head Chef Lisa Sutherland and able to seat 60 food lovers comfortably. They serve seasonal modern British cuisine Monday to Saturday from 6pm - 11pm in the kind of surroundings you would expect from Sanctum Soho - vintage glamour, oak floors and Altfield gold-rose wall coverings. If you're not after a formal dinner, a wide range of sumptuous food can be served in the residents bar, roof terrace or in your room.
Anything Else?
It is the mission of staff at Sanctum Soho to ensure that they can "pretty much get you anything you want anytime day or night", be that a club sandwich, hairdresser or your very own mixologist with portable bar.
So if you want to feel like rock star royalty and indulge yourself in a bit of excess, you'll fit right in at one of the quirkiest hotels in London.
