Super Little Gem

Stayed here with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. Love the hotel and the decor, facilities in the rooms are excellent (esp the punchy sound from the ipod dock)! A great base for a night on the tiles in central London, and Smithfield Market right next door for the bacon sarnie pick me up the next day. Will definately stay again...

A beautiful hotel in a great location

I came here for my wife's birthday. The hotel is a wonderful oasis of calm in a busy part of London. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is an 'honesty bar' in a beautifully-furnished lounge. I would recommend the nearby Bleeding Heart restaurant for dinner.

A haven in the heart of Clerkenwell

I've stayed at The Rookery before & would happily do do again. It's quietly elegant. My room was beautiful - the bed simply wonderful - the bathroom spacious, the towels deep and soft and the water? Piping hot.
I stayed in Dr Dodds - each room is named after a London character and you can read about their history.
The room faced onto Peters Lane and as such is quieter than those facing Smithfield Market.
Breakfast was delivered promptly and politely and my late night cup of tea in the conservatory came complete with rather scrumptious biscuits.
Ok it's not cheap but frankly you could pay nearly the same price for something bereft of character and soul.

Very pleasant boutique hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. Cost a bit more to stay here than your average chain place, but was well worth it for the character of the place. Great location right by Smithfield Market, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast being served as room service was novel to us, but we enjoyed that. The "honesty bar" appeals to those who want to stay up for that extra drink after they get in!

The place is just lovely. Great staff, great location, great decor.
Order the bloody Mary with your breakfast in bed.

Rookery Hotel

Really lovely hotel - stayed one night while in London on business, and couldn't have been better. Very conveniently located, fabulous room, superb customer service, friendly and helpful, a real find! Will certainly stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Excellent weekend away

I took my wife to London for her birthday and decided stay here as it looked lovely in all the photos. It did not disappoint as it felt very upmarket and had a lovely 'olde world' feel to it.
The staff were very pleasent although we didn't really have much interaction with them.
It's right near Barbican and Farringdon tube and we had no probs getting to Covent Garden to see the Royal Opera.
My only real gripes were the cost of breakfast (£10 pp, we used the Starbucks 1min up the road) and not having tea facilities in the room (always nice to wake up to and not spending £3.50 each). These though are minor but will knock off a star from me.
I would definitely stay there again and would recommend for all.

It's nothing like what they say it is

The room reminded me of Rising Damp. It is obviously a former house of low quality flats.
The description is completely misleading and infringes the trade description act. Whoever wrote it must have been on some illegal substance. Alarm bells started ringing as I paid in advance for the room before I had seen it. If it hadn't been late on a Sunday evening when I checked in, I would have found somewhere else. A very depressing room and very poor quality fixtures and fittings.
Never again will I risk booking somewhere that has rated itself.

Arrived at the hotel late evening to be told that payment hadn't been taken by the person I booked with and I needed to show my credit card again. As this was booked on a company credit card, I didn't have this with me. The reception kept saying to me that it wasn't his fault.... regardless of whose fault it was, I had to put it on my own cc - what would have happened if I didn't have one, was I to be stranded in London for three days?? There were no lifts and my room was on the second floor. The room itself was very quaint and the facilities were very clean and spacious. The bath was big enough to take a swim in and there was plenty of hot water, the bed was very comfortable. There was nowhere to sit in the evening on the first night as there was a meeting taking place in their lounge and unfortunately the TV station selection and the reception in my room was very poor - lights out at 9pm! This is not ideal when you are travelling alone and don't wish to wander the streets. There is no dining room - if you wish to have breakfast you have to put a sign of your door and they will deliver it to your room. There is an honour system in place in the lounge (when you can get in) but this area does not have a great selection. All in all, it is not a hotel I would recommend for a single traveller unless they have plenty of external entertainment planned.

Disappointing

Our room was very noisy, with disco revellers keeping us awake all night. The toilet would not flush, and when we checked out the hotel tried to add VAT to an inclusive price we had been quoted by Late Rooms.
The stay was supposed to be a special treat, but it ended up costing us a night's sleep.
