Quietly located in Smithfield, in the City of London, a short distance from St Paul's and the Bank of England, the only remaining early houses in Peter's Lane have been restored to create this delightful small hotel. Many Restaurants and Pubs are available in the area. Several on the doorstep. Quiet at weekends. Open fires, mellow panelling and period furniture give The Rookery its unique, homely atmosphere. Even the bathroom fittings are genuine antiques, all lovingly restored. Castle wardrobes and secretaires, vast oak beds with ornately carved gothic headboards, Victorian commodes, inlaid tables and original oak panelling have all been restored in these rooms which were once home to a magistrate, an architect, a surgeon and a master baker to name a few of the original inhabitants. You can sense the abience of Georgian London as you push open the hand carved front door. Guests are looked after by helpful, intelligent staff. Rooms have space to work or relax. Communications are state of the art. And....the croissants are baked fresh on the premises each morning (sadly not on the period kitchen range, which still exists below stairs).
