Great stay tainted by a poorly thought out checkout process

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights for a short honeymoon break. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with the room and breakfast being great. We even used the spa next door which was the perfect tonic for lots of walking and sightseeing!
This was all until the checkout where we left our room for the advised 12pm time only to find that our room card to use the lift to get to the ground floor was no longer working. After a few minutes trying the spare cards we eventually found a phone and called reception who had to send somone up to operate the lift for us. On complaining to the lady on reception about the unreasonable practice of deactivating room cards, with no sympathy we were informed "12pm promt is the checkout time". This might sound trivial but surely it would make sense to give 5-10minutes grace?! Another couple at reception also had the same complaint. This is an annoying unneccesary process which put a taint on an otherwise good stay!

Breakfast at the Rembrandt

Lovely hotel, breakfast was 1st class. Staff at breakfast couldn't have been nicer or more helpful despite being extremely busy! Nothing was too much trouble. Food selection was well laid out and easy to get at with no queues. I liked the fact that a pot of tea/coffee was placed on the table not simply one cupful and you have to ask for a refill. Our room was immaculate, I would love to stay here again.

A lovely spacious room

Our room was very spacious and nicely furnished and the bathroom had a whirpool bath which was great.
A huge bed was very comfortable and the pillows and duvet were good quality. The only downside was noisy ventilation system outside which was continous... I am very, very sensitive to noise so this was a bit of a draw back. I will definately return but will ask for a room on the other side of the hotel

Fantastic as always!!

My friend and I stay here every time we visit London and have never had a single complaint about this hotel. We were upgraded free of charge this time due to me being disabled. (The disabled rooms were full) The room provided was of good proportions, clean and tidy and easy to get around with a wheelchair. Room service breakfast arrived at the specified time and was more than adequate. All the hotel staff from the reception desk staff, to the concierge, to the maids, were so polite and courteous during our stay, they were always there to help me get in and out of the hotel, and were around to help me to manouevre around inside. All in all yet another fabulous stay.

Location and staff - truly excellent!

The location of The Rembrandt is opposite the V & A and round the corner from South Kensington. This was ideal for us as we wanted to visit the museums and also the centre of London. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and, overall: 'very good'. However, all the staff we had contact with added an extra dimension and were excellent! I felt slightly misled by the spa, gym and pool being adjacent to the hotel and subject to an extra charge rather than on site and free but that didn't impede us having a wonderful week there. The atmosphere created by the period features with modern comforts were appreciated as were the open fire in the sumptuous bar - especially during the frosty weather outside. We intend to return and would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Great positioned hotel

I booked the Rembrant because of its position and because the other reviews seemed fairly favourable. On arrival at the hotel we had to wait a fair time to check in because a group of French people were checking in before us. Although there were several staff behind the desk, only one seemed to be dealing with the checking-in which was slightly frustrating. The room itself was perfectly adequate and clean, nothing was broken and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom again was clean and adequate, although on the small side. We had a surprisingly quiet night for such a centrally positioned hotel. Breakfast was a bit of a scrum, we arrived at 9.30am (breakfast finished at 10) and had to wait for a table, along with several other couples in front of us. The wait was not long though and breakfast was absolutely fine. All in all our stay was perfectly satisfactory, the hotel has no frills but is clean and confortable.

Excellent central location

The hotel is excellently located for numerous attractions.
We stayed at the hotel to attend an event at the Royal Albert Hall, a short walk away
The reception staff were attentive despite the hotel being busy and apparently almost full.
The room was in a very clean condition and was spacious with a large bed.
Despite being on the front of the hotel which abutts the main road, the double glazing assured a good nights sleep.
Breakfast was busy but the excellent staff ensured any questions were quickly resolved - they were very attentive. Breakfast itself was of a high standard and plentiful.
I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel, or to stay again in the future.

Two nights on business

A well located hotel, short walking distance from Harrods and a c £4 taxi ride from Sloane Square. My room was clean comfortable and benefited from french windows, which gave the room lots of light, and they opened easily to let in fresh air. Every appliance in the room and ensuite bathroom was working. On the ground floor the bar area is standard , slightly boring London hotel, but if you've paid for this location there are plenty of exciting places within a walk which cater for most tastes. The lounge is in need of refurbishment, its tired , far too tired to be termed "shabby chic", and some of the chairs wouldn't get house room in a charity shop, its a shame because its not a bad space, Dining room is functional -certainly not a place to celebrate with your family or significant other- breakfast service is efficient but needs to be viewed as refuelling rather than a special meal . Check in and out , quick efficient , plenty of warm smiles. If your in this part of town for business it works fine; however it certainly cannot be seen as a "destination hotel".

The Rembrandt - a piece of art, or refurbishment needs to start?!

Mixed views am afraid, but sad to say many being negative. Customer Service could be better, such as staff behind counter talking amongst themselves when guests were queuing, and some delays at breakfast with getting a drink served. I was irritated by room service knocking on my door at 8.20am and 10.10am to see if they could clean the room (even though clock out time was not until 12pm).
My initial impression of the hotel room was it being to a decent standard but the next morning when viewed with natural light I noticed well worn skirting boards, staining to the carpet and marks on the wall from where you could see where plastering had been done underneath for wiring. To my horror, when I got in the bath I could see dried, trickled faecal matter stuck down the outer side of the toilet bowl. I will try to upload some photos of the room (but will not post the faecal one!)
Food was dry and not as hot as I would have liked, altho there was reasonable choice of both hot and cold breakfast food.
If you want a one night stay and a bit of food to get you on your way, this hotel should be ok but if you want a few days break, with high cleanliness and a bit of pampering then I think this hotel is not for you.

Worst Customer Service......

I arrived at the hotel having booked a superior room with a queen size bed, the bed was the reason for booking this hotel (i am 6' 3"). I checked in and then waited for lift (only one working other was broken), i walked past all the painting and renovation work and found my room which was not a superiour and had twin beds. I returned to reception explained i had book a superior room with a queen size bed, there was no apology, i was made to feel like i was a major inconveinance for her but reluctantly she booked me into another room. The new room was still not a superior and had a standard double bed not a queen size, so back i go to reception. I speak to a different person this time being hopeful that they may be bale to help me but at least the hotel can boast to be consistent, she too was rude and unhelpful. I was informed that laterooms has wrongly detailed the room and bed size and that the only queen size beds were in their executive rooms and if i wanted one of those i had to pay extra. I politly said that i was not worried about an executive room i just wanted a queen size bed and if they couldn't offer me that please could i cancel the booking and find another hotel. They said i could cancel the room but would be charged the whole amount. In frutration i said could i look at the room with the queen size bed, once in the room i phoned laterooms who were brilliant. Laterooms confirmed it was the hotel that put the room description on the site and not laterooms and that they would sort it out. 10 minutes later laterooms phone back, the lady from laterooms was exasperated with the hotel as i was, it was only when she threateened to remove them from laterooms website did they agree i could stay in the room.
