Its hard to know where to begin with...
Its hard to know where to begin with a review of this place, i have stayed in a quite a few top london hotels and although this hotel claims to be 4* under the name "regency" in south kensington it is a VERY POOR standard hotel. On arrival it was a chore to get the front desk to understand that yes, although the room is not ready yet i would like the concierge to check our bags while we had breakfast.(booked the stay so i could take my girlfriend to a show for her birthday) walked through to the dining room and it was shockingly obvious the decor was dated and out of place (think the hotel from Stephen Kings the shining only crap). I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, which by amazment they managed to get wrong by leaving out the cheese. Whilst sitting there with alarm bells ringing in my head that this hotel was actualy quite bad and not as expected or indeed promoted by the website, the noise was joined by constant loud drilling and hammering which was going on with the builders renovating the first floor, which was not mentioned by anyone at anypoint. After a killing some time we returned to the front desk, and someone in a red jacket mentioned that the room we will be staying in is 404. So i asked "does that mean its ready ?" i recieved a blank look from all three at the front desk who then asked my name and checked this against several booking cards, and after spelling out my last name s.l.o.w.l.y 3-4 times they pulled out a card with a completly different first and last name...hmmm... well then, someone found the card and anounced with triumph you are in room 404, i mentioned that i already knew this and is the room ready ? So im handed a key to the room, and just to be sure i told them to phone house keeping to see if they had fininshed with the room, because call me paranoid but i just had a funny feeling they hadnt grasped the concept of dealing with guests at a hotel. The phone call was made and guess what!! the room was not ready ...id lost 15 mins of my life to three thats right this was being dealt with by all three of the front desk staff..Go up to the room and surprise (but at this point not really) i have been given a twin room despite ordering a double. I go back to the dreaded front desk, this time with pen and paper so i can draw the nessesary pictures to explain my problem. im met this time with someone in a black jacket who in a "sorry i cant help attitude" explained that because i had booked with a booking agency (late rooms) i hadnt been given what id asked for, because direct booking take presidence, understandable, but then her attitude changed completly with me when i explained the room was booked online purely for my convience, and that i was prepared to upgrade to a suite in order to get what i needed.......Think of a suite at a london hotel.....got it ? ok now imagine half the size, stains in the bath, ancient tv and vhs combi in the corner, bins un emptied, stale smelling and acid trip carpet. On a tight time frame for my girlfriends birthday we left for lunch, show, cocktails had a great time.....came back late 2am and thought we'd have a snack and was told by room service that literally all they could provide was toast ....for £6Was woken up on sunday morning at about 850am with a 3 second blast of the fire alarm and then workmen banging away on the first floor. My girlfriend and i had a great time celebrating her birthday every second we spent away from that hotel. Unfortuantly the hotel was ment to be part of the present ......the night with the wrong sandwich for breakfast and the most expensive toast on the planet came to 200 pounds. I could have booked a night at the Mayfair for that (fantastic would recomend to anyone) and badly wish i did, i have never been let down so much by a place in my life. I didnt want to ruin my girlfriends birthday by complaining on the day, that and i didnt have time because i had planned every moment for her...The only thing i can highlight as being acceptable in anyway was the concierge, who was polite cheerfull and helpfull

I was upgraded to a superior room which was only larger in size than a basic double not superioir in standard at all. It was also a smoking room with twin beds when I had requested a non smoking double. This was availible but they chose to 'upgrade' me to a less suitable room which meant I had to get the room changed etc which is all extra hassle.

I have to say my boking was very last minute and I did not have much choice. For London prices the room was relatively "cheap" but even though I would not go back. You hear Regency and see the pompous outside and think wow.. But then the room was tiny, cables hanging off the ceiling walking to it and the television was so small I overlooked it at first. Everything was very old and felt run down. Given that the room was groundfloor with a low window out to some alley behind the hotel I did not feel particularly safe either. Overall not a good experience.

I used the Regency Hotel in South Kensington as a base from which to attend at conference at Imperial College. I was entirely satisfied with the facilities available. I did not eat in the hotel or use the customer service because I had other commitments/alternative arrangements made. I would have no hestitation in recommending the hotel to my friends/colleagues, and I would be delighted to stay there again.

Our room was tiny , scruffy and unbearably hot . The heating could not be adjusted . The window catch was broken so we could not lock it when we went out . The bathroom was illegal with no extractor fan or window - I understand this to be against all fire and building regs . There were wires dangling from the wall and ceiling outside our room . In the morning , drilling and building noise started at 8.00am in the next door room . We didn't sleep a wink due to the insufferable heat so at least this did not wake us up ! Warning - do not stay here - it is not a four star standard : Any budget travel lodge would be far superior !
