Natural History Museum offers a Halloween treat for guests

October 13th, 2011

Widely regarded as one of the best museums in London, it is no surprise that the Natural History Museum in South Kensington has something special planned for Halloween.

That something is Night Safari – Halloween Horrors, a unique and fascinating look at some of the museum’s creepiest exhibits.

Guests will be treated to the knowledge of five museum scientists, who will guide them through some of the weirder specimens, some of which are not even on general display.

With mummies, monsters, shrunken heads and poisonous potions just some of the things to look forward to, this really is not to be missed. The scientists will be available after the tour in the bar area to chat with guests, while Halloween fancy dress is strongly encouraged.

Tickets cost £28, with the tour running from 7-10pm.

Hotels-London.co.uk can offer plenty of accommodation near Kensington for anyone visiting London for Halloween. Copthorne Tara is just a short distance from the museum.

Experience the scary side of London Zoo this Halloween

October 13th, 2011

With a long history stretching back some 180 years, London Zoo is a place with some tales to tell. Many of these stories are perfect for their scary Halloween Ghost Tours, and visitors can join in with this on October 28th.

The tour will take in some of the creepier corners of the Zoo, perfectly normal in the day but positively eerie after dark. Guests can experience the animal houses with only the moon to guide them, giving a whole new perspective of the Zoo.

Staff past and present will be on hand to share their stories, whether it is the rumour about the guest who never left, the so-called Curse of the Reptile House or simply a strange occurence that happened to them when they were working late alone.

As these tours are around for one night only, places are very limited so visitors would be advised to snap them up quickly. They cost £16.66 and are for over-18s only. The tour itself lasts for one hour.

Hotels-London.co.uk can offer a full range of accommodation options for anyone wishing to stay in London. The Cumberland Hotel near Marble Arch and Macdonald Hotel in Kings Cross are two examples of what to expect.

Spooky Halloween Weekend at London Wetland Centre

October 13th, 2011

With Halloween on the horizon, many London establishments are trying to come up with ways to take advantage of the festivities with a themed event to attract visitors.

At the London Wetland Centre in Barnes on the outskirts of West London, they have the ideal attraction for just such an occasion.

On October 22nd-23rd, visitors of all ages can come and learn all about the lives of two of the most frightening animals around; bats and spiders.

The creatures are residents of the centre, and keepers hope that people will learn that they are not as scary as popular opinion would suggest.

With talks about the habitats and behaviour of bats and spiders both native and foreign, guests will leave furnished with enough facts to ensure they are never afraid of these creatures again. There is plenty of family fun to be had too, with face-painting and games keeping young children amused.

Entry to the centre costs £10.55 for adults and £5.85 for children, with under 4s granted free admission.
Hotels-London.co.uk can provide visitors with plenty of accommodation options to help them enjoy their stay. The magnificent Hendon Hall and the superb K West Hotel in Shepherds Bush are just two examples of what you can expect.

Fifth UK Rumfest comes to Earls Court

October 6th, 2011

Olympia 2 Exhibition Centre will play host to a Caribbean carnival later this month as the popular Rumfest returns for its fifth year on October 15th-16th.

Founder Ian Burrell, a Global Rum Ambassador, has described the event as “Probably the greatest rum festival and selection of rum…under one roof,” and with over 400 rums to try it is difficult to argue.

The best rums will be honoured by the prestigious Golden Rum Barrel Awards, with categories including Best Master Rum Blender, International Rum Ambassador of the Year and the fantastic Rum Experience Pioneer Award for Outstanding Rum Achievement.

As well as sampling the rums, visitors can also watch live cocktail demonstrations from professional mixologists and taste the results, enjoy live music with a Caribbean theme and enter a competition to win a fabulous Caribbean holiday and a visit to a rum distillery.

A new feature this year will be the Tropical Food Area, where revellers can line their stomachs in between drinks. Tickets cost £22.

Hotels-London.co.uk has a wide selection of hotels to offer near the Earls Court area, easily reached after a long day of rum. Copthorne Tara in nearby Kensington and Langham Hotel in the West End are just two of the options available.

National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall

October 6th, 2011

On October 15th, 20 brass bands from across the country will descend on the Royal Albert Hall (pictured) to battle it out for the stunning ‘Challenge Trophy’ in the final of the National Brass Band Championships.

A culmination of months of gruelling qualifying rounds, the contenders have had to battle through regional heats to be here, with the competition divided into London & Southern Counties, North, Midlands, North West, Yorkshire, West, Scotland and Wales regions.

The finalists were announced back in March, so the groups have had plenty of time to prepare, and will have to be at the top of their game as they perform to around 4,000 people at this most historic London venue.

A panel of esteemed music figures will judge the entrants, including David Read MBE, who has also judged the French, Dutch and Belgian contests, as well as the World Championships.

Hotels-London.co.uk can offer plenty of hotels close to the Royal Albert Hall, including St Martins Lane in the West End and St Giles in Bloomsbury.
