Great value for money and friendly staff.

Room was a good size, blue lights in the room were definitely a bonus and worked charms on valentines day ! Good tv and channels, bathroom a little small yet modern. Nice big double bed which was comfy and had an AC in the room which for me tops the icing on the cake ! Breakfast room was however very small however modern and quality of food was very basic, continental. Location of the hotel was just perfect.

Great value

The room we were given was the exact as what was in the picture on the website, it had a lovely bathroom with soap and shampoo and had towels and facilities to make a coffee and a very modern tv, i cannot comment on the breakfast as i didnt have time as it was rather busy in the small eating area and i didnt have the time to wait but over all i really enjoyed this hotel i felt safe and relaxed all night, would recommend this to anyone

Not Very Good

This was the worst hotel I have stayed in. The room was on the top floor (5 flights of stairs), was tiny, and had a tiny bathroom which smelt awful (smelt like a drain). As for the breakfast, don't bother! Again, this was in a tiny room (crammed full of tables and people) where you were expected to try and queue for a hard boiled egg/fruit salad/orange juice and then cook your own toast! I believe I was the only person speaking English in the whole place - not a problem in it's self, but only made the experience a little stranger! Although this was one of the cheaper places to stay in in the area, I really would expect a certain level of clenliness, etc. I would never return to this place.

Avoid Avoid Avoid!!

I booked this "hotel" as I had to stay overnight in London and like the Nottinghill area. They has classified themselves as a 3 star (based on what???). I had looked at the photos online and they seemed basic but looked ok for £50 for a short notice booking. The location was good but as soon as I arrived I had concerns. Before anything else I was being asked to pay and informed that my room would be small and the toilet was down stairs next to Reception. This was pointed out in the small print, clearly something I'd overlooked. When seeking clarification from the man at Reception over entering my credit card details onto their paperwork he sarcastically spelt out the word S-A-M-E ie if the card is the same you dont need to re-write it? Funny as English is my first language and I didnt appreciate the rudeness at the start of my depressing stay. I dragged my heavy suitcase up the stairs (without any offer of help) to my "room" and just couldnt believe what I'd paid for. A converted broom cupboard is the only way to describe Room 26. You can stand up and touch both sides of the wall with your hands, the bed is a small single that dips in the middle, the walls are scuffed & filthy and there is a small narrow window that opens behind your pillow. So freezing head if you fancy some fresh air. I asked for an upgrade but was told they were full and had a look in the area but couldnt find anything so resigned myself to staying in this hovel. Next morning, no hot water for a shower! Breakfast, a dismal selection of cheap white / brown bread; sliced cheese and cereal. A depressing end to a terrible stay. They said this room was originally £85 but on this website it was £49 (then they charged 4% service charge to use my card!). Do yourself a favour and just pay the extra to stay well away from this poor excuse for a hotel.

Excellent location...... awful Hotel!!

Although warned the reception was being referbished, there was no warning that the guys working on it would be smoking ilegal drugs, or to get to the breakfast room you had to survive climbing over ladders and slidding down dust sheets laid down the stairs.
if you like crusts of bread and over cooked eggs for breakfast this hotel is perfect.
However this hotel is seconds away from the underground in the heart of London.

I can safely say this was the worst and smallest room I have every stayed in. My toilet at home is bigger. And for £50 it was a complete rip off. Unbelieveable that they should be licensed to do business. The UK is the only western country that would allow this kind of outrage.

Compact and bijou

The room was tiny, with a tiny table and chair in one corner wedged at the end of the bed, which was a small double bed. The floor was polished wood with not even a rug. There were bare wires from a socket in the wall and a floor socket was also unfinished. The tap in the bathroom was so loose it was almost off. The breakfast room was behind reception and was tiny, with everyone wedged in shoulder to shoulder. We only stayed one night and the only good thing about it was the location. The fire alarm went off very loudly twice during the night!

This hotel was used as a cheap and cheerful overnight stay whilst on business and was incredible value for money. The Savoy it wasn't but for only £34 you don't expect much. The room was pristine, it was quiet and the bed comfortable. Also, it was only a 2 minute walk from Notting Hill Tube making it extremely convenient. Job done!

Just terrible.

For the price of the room you expect bog standard accommodation, but this hotel doesn't even reach the lower levels of an ok place to stay. After a night in a single room, a room which shouldn't really be allowed to be a room due to its broom cupboard proportions, I moved to a larger room (after complaining and paying the extra fee for a larger room). The noise from the street and from within the hotel was ridiculous and a good night's sleep is near impossible unless you are a very very heavy sleeper. The windows (if you are lucky enough to have a room with windows as my first had none) do not close properly and so the noise from the busy main road next to the hotel can be heard throughout the night. There were stains all over the bedding and carpets, drains were smelly after being used and despite the open windows the heat in the rooms was very hot with no way of turning the radiators down. I visited in January and it was cold outside but the relief of the cold was nice after a night in a sauna of a room. I would not advise anyone to stay here as the service is impolite, the rooms are unclean and if all you want is a good night's sleep, this hotel will not help you achieve this. Find another hotel.

Good value for money

The room was on the third floor (no lift) and was large but for some reason had 3 double beds in it. It wasn't cramped though and the bathroom was adequate although if you are obese you wouldn't be able to get in the shower as the doors only opened a little way. We skipped breakfast altogether, the breakfast room was tiny and very unappetizing but fortunately there are plenty of lovely cafe's around Notting Hill.
We would stay here again, it's a good location and good value for money.

The room was essentially a cupboard with a bed, but it was all well finished. The toilet was tiny, with no room to hang a towel for the basin.
Tea and coffee making facilities in the room didn't include hot chocolate. We were mightily disappointed at that.
Ultimately though, the staff were friendly, 24 hour reception (though breakfast was poor). Probably wouldn't stay here again as I don't think it was worth the £80 for one night, but I wouldn't expect much better elsewhere for that money if I'm honest with myself.
Pros: clean, well finished, excellent location.
Cons: breakfast was awful, tiny room.

Poor hotel

Cheaper hotel so expectations were not too high.
Clear as soon as you arrive that focus is on hotelier making some money and no real focus on customer.
Surcharge when paying by debit or credit cards of 4% which is totally unnecessary.
Room had been renovated in last few years but still very shoddy, toilet in middle of room, partially blocked showerhead, ill-fitting toilet flush button, wardrobe doors that didn't close properly, TV stand that flopped about all over the place, wires everywhere.
The room and halls desperately needed a new coat of paint.
Breakfast was awful.

The Notting Hill Gate Hotel - 2 Couples

A group of 4 of us were going to see Muse at Wembley Stadium recently and whilst this hotel was the only one available to us, the price and stay in all was very good. Only minor critisium would be that the 'free breakfast' included was in a small room with a fair few other people staying there too, meaning the atmopshere are breakfast was a bit crampt. Would happily stay there again though, very good for late check-ins and turning up late from concerts!

Dirty hotel would not recommend

First room we were put into had dirty walls with punch holes in, paint coming off the ceilings in bathroom and bed area, wardrobe did not have a front or back very flimsy, asked to moved, told only one room left, (receptionist did not seem to care if we were not happy with room) not much better, the rooms were too small for two adults and the rooms we saw did not look at all like the picture on the website. the skirtingboard were coming away in many places, floorboards did not meet and very dirty in between, bathroom did not have toilet roll holder or towels holders, tiles cracked and dirty. bedlined had at least 7 holes in, give up counting after that. the curtains were so thin so could see through them.
The wardrobe was a rail in small corner not enough space for two people clothes. there was a tiny tiny table which held a small kettle and cups, it wouldnt take anything else. we had leave everything on the floor. No bedside table or shelf.
breakfast was in a small area behind reception, only held a few small tables, breakfast was a joke, boiled egg or toast, tea and coffee. staff tried to be helpful but with limited english it was difficult and some did not know the area. all in all the hotel was a big dissapointment and should be classed a minus 2* not a 2*. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Firstly the overall stay was perfectly fine for my needs. However with very few changes it could have made it much better . The room was extremely small and as the bed was so low you couldnt put the case under it to make the room feel less cluttered . There were only some hooks on the back of the door to hang clothes . No room for drawers or a wardrobe . OK but there were no hangers which would have at least meant they could have been hung . There was only a sheet and a blanket one pillow . No spares . No headboard on bed, so, uncomfortable to sit to read and it was very cold . It took the hotel 2 nights to get the extra blanket . Breakfast was simply mayhem as the dining room is too small for the amount of guests and so people were waiting in the doorway for you to finish . The DIY system meant people were pushing past to access food / drinks .
All that said the place was spotless , bags of hot water and very pleasant staff .

Sink was about 1 1/2 feet too low (unless you were much lower than average height) and the toilet was crammed against the shower. Ideal if your one of those who pee in the shower and fancy a change.
Door to the balcony wasn't secure unless the shutters were closed and a bar dropped in place. May be a hassle for some.
