Not what was expected

Although we informed the hotel we would be late to check in there was no room for us when we got there. We ended up with an entirely different room that was poky and in the attic! Not what we paid for poor indeed.
I was trying to ask directions to the hotel from the tube station and the staff were rude on the phone. Communication skills of the staff were much to be desired,as we couldn't understand a word. The cleaner burst into our room twice early in the morning too.
they obviously constantly overbook this hotel as they have back up rooms so be vary wary when booking. This hotel is in a great location though the only good feature.

Not very good

The room was small. It was well lived in and lacked the basics. i.e. there was no cold water it run scolding hot. No TV remote. The window did not open or close properly. The kettle is placed right on top of the tv electrical safety issue. The noise level from traffic was unbearable. The room was excessivelt hot. All in all an experience I would not like to be put through again.

As the building went up, the quality went down

Reception was really nice, clean, tidy and modern... and then we got in the carpet walled lift. The room was small, cramped and in dire need of updating. The light switches were built into a bed side chest of drawers which was falling apart, and the "blacony" doors looked like they were crumbling in front of our eyes. The bath, was not a bath, but a half bath and the shower was so low, I hand to bend in half to shower (Im only 6ft which isn't exactly giant like!) They did look after our bags the following day whilst we visited various sites which was a plus.

Norfolk Towers.

Being honest we booked the Norfolk Towers because it was fairly cheap at £80 per night, and was the only one we found near that price with a Continental Breakfast included. In hindsight I wished we hadnt bothered, because for another £10-15 to stay room only, im sure our experience would have been better.
The Norfolk looks ok from the Outside, the pictures are slightly deceiving though, as they only show the fairly well kept entrance and lobby area. Its not until you venture further, you see the hotel is tired at best. The best bit though was the room, which was like something from the dark ages! Threadbare carpet, ancient furniture, no remote for the telly, and a seriously old wooden contraption for controlling the lights in the room, for which some of the switches didnt work. The curtains were so old and torn that they didnt even touch the floor, so let in loads of light. The single glazed french doors and windows, were sealed with grey gaffer tape, I presume in some attempt to minimise the sound from the road, and keep the wind out.....who knows!!
On the positive side the staff were very helpful and polite.

Bit disappointed = from the outside and the foyer area gave a good impression but the room was very small- not even a wardrobe or cupboard just 4 hangers on a pole on the wall. and the TV was sticking out into the room at head height. room was clean because only just been painted - smell of paint was bad and i couldnt open the window cos been paint had stuck it closed! bed linen was clean ( I think) but stained. however ok for the price and convenient to Paddington

Budget accommodation

You get remarkable value from this hotel. At only £50 or so for a night in (almost) central London, including a continental breakfast, it cannot be faulted for value for money.
Don't expect a 5 star experience, but be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

Not a relaxing and enjoyable experience

During our stay we had problems with a broken window and the staff were unable to move us to another room, they originally agreed to review our payment. This was never done in the end and we had to pay full price for a COLD AND BROKEN ROOM. Unfortunately we will not use this hotel again due to the lack of communication between staff and customer and the poor state of the room. Not a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Norfolk Towers Hotel Paddington

After booking I checked on the reviews and was not impressed. A lesson to be learned there! However the hotel is close to Paddington mainline and the underground. The reception and breakfast area was clean and quite impressive but the lift was extremely slow albeit in working order.
The single room was small, the window did not shut properly and the room is in urgent need of refurbishment. The television needed attention and a light bulb had to be replaced. Towels were fresh each day but the bed linen did not impress me!
The double room was again a disappointment with two light bulbs needing replacing and no remote to the rather antiquated television that only had a couple of channels. The furniture was very old and the two rooms were a great disappointment but they were at least warm and reasonably cheap. That said I would not recommend the hotel or stay there again unless I was convinced a room had been refurbished and I was going to occupy it.
Staff replaced the light bulbs and provided additional pillows very promptly.
The downstairs bar was excellent for any football that was showing and the prices were favourable.
Cheap parking is provided at £14-00 per day at the nearby St Johns Church but the instructions do not tell you that the parking is in a church forecourt and so we wasted a great deal of time locating the site. You have to go into the church to book and pay. It all looked very safe to me and we had no problems.
Travelling on the underground now seems very expensive even with an Oyster card and I would take a taxi if in a group of four. The Oyster card deposit and any credit can be repaid at the end of the stay.

Norfolk towers? Faulty Towers!

I very rarely leave reviews but I have gone to the effort because this, although very cheap, is a massive disappointment. Please please spend a little extra money for something better. The first room we were put in was tiny, dirty, worn and quite frankly a disgrace. I would liken it to a bedsit or hostel room. The photograph of the nice reception is a trick to attract you, don't make the mistake we did. We were moved to a slightly better room, we very nearly asked for a refund, but other local hotels I called were fully booked.

Me and my daughter were initially given a room that was absolutely terrible, it was tiny, cold, unwelcoming, the window looked as though it was falling apart, single glazed with the wind howling through and no curtains, looked like a very run down bedsit, when we picked up the phone to ring reception, the phone cord was not attached to the phone, and there was no way he could attach, needless to say we complained and were moved a better, but not brilliant room. would never ever stay again.

Disgusting!

I booked this hotel for myself and a colleague after looking at the website,it looked pretty decent. Our room was in desperate need of an update! The carpet was threadbare, the bathroom was so small you had to walk right in before you could even contemplate closing the door. The shower took ages to heat and was a pathetic flow. The mattresses on the beds had no support,in fact mine had a deep hollow where the springs had given up so not a good nights sleep! The window wouldn't open properly.Everything was so old! The lift took ages and then you could only get two people in with cases so it took ages for us to eventually get to the ground floor. For £135 I expected better. We asked for an iron and board and had to pay £10 deposit and fetch it ourselves from reception! The staff were not helpful and couldn't be bothered.Worst stay I've had in London

I thought i had booked a 3 star room

From the description this sounded an ideal choice of hotel, a few minuets walk from Paddington tube station and a 3 star hotel... Wrong on both accounts! The walk when carrying luggage is a fair step and the room is far from being anywhere near the standard of a 3 star hotel. The hotel is extremely hot with no air con in the rooms in which we stayed and is single glazed with road noise. The decor hits you as soon as you open the door, very dated and shabby and the floor boards squeak and drop away as if you are about to fall through the floor. On the plus side it is pretty near the bus stops and the food was great and a pub in the basement! Staff was very friendly and nice.. But not a 3 star hotel and in my opinion not value for money!

Good location for London stop over

I needed a hotel close to Paddington to facilitate an easy transfer to Heathrow and this fitted the bill well. Friendly and helpful staff at check-in. Room clean and a reasonable size. Slightly irritating electrical hum that I could not find the source of but otherwise everything fine. I had to leave too early to be able to try the breakfast included in the price of my room so can't comment on the food.

Overall, the hotel was good for a budget overnight business stay within a few minutes walk from Paddington. The room was fine - bathroom was clean and fittings all working - but it was very hot even with the window open. Rickety lift which was not clean and a tight squeeze for 3 persons. The continental breakfast was not worth it - I went to Paddington Station for a "proper" breakfast. Counter staff were friendly and welcoming.

We arrived in the hotel around 2pm and checked in, i booked a executive double room and payed extra for the privalige, when seeing the room i was not blown away as it was very basic but as we where only there for the night did not see that it would be a issue. We swiftly left the hotel and didnt arrive back untill around 8.30pm, apon arrival back i sat on the bed and realised that it was not a double but two singles pushed together, adding this to the basic room i went to reception to see if anything could be done. The lady on reception explained that most rooms came this way and they where fully booked so there was nothing she could do and told me to come back at 8am and speak to the manager.
After a night of sleeping mostly in the gap caused by two singles i went to reception where the manager who was rather rude and didnt seem to care told me again to come back in the morning, i explained that we would be checking out that day so he advised me to put the complaint in writing, i did this and checked out.
After a day or so i had heard nothing back so i emailed the hotel and to my surprise (not) the letter had been "lost"!
The manager phoned me and explained again that the rooms came this way and i told him that if i had of known i would not of booked with the hotel, he said for the trouble caused he would refund some of the payment back to my card straight away......this was three days ago and shock horror i am still waiting.
All in all a bad stay for myself, maybe ok if you are going for a twin room but for the rooms the price is far to high!

For a young couple it was fine

Location...perfect! First impressions of the hotel were good, the reception was very clean and nice and all the staff were friendly. Our room was suitable for a young couple, warm and had basic amenities, however a bit dated. Bathroom was small. Apart from a small hic-up at 2.20am when all the fire alarms got set off by an angry customer (the whole experience was very exciting actually what with being evacuated and fire engines turning up !) Other than that breakfast was tasty with a nice choice of food for both the full english and continental. Again staff were friendly. I would definitely go back to the hotel especially for its location. Couples looking for a 'posh' expensive hotel might want to look elsewhere, however it suited me and my boyfriend fine as we are only 18.
