Hotel is still in he middel of a refurbishment and it looks like it has a while to go yet.
Rooms are simple and clean but you get a feeling it is not complete.
Personel are in a hurry and do not read bookings so we did not get what we booked ( maybe the rooms weren't ready but they didn't inform us).
Breakfast is simple. Ifyou want anything different you have to pay extra.

Basic accommodation!!

Rooms were clean enough and very comfortable. Hotel was under renovation so bar area was uninviting. What very basic food was served and was not high quality. The area to eat in was haphazard. I would definitely plan to eat out. Disappointed me very much as was relying on a good restaurant which wasn't there.

Never again

Hotel admittedly undergoing refurbishment, but was actually grotty. The door handle to the bathroom wouldn't work, at first locking me in, and later would not open during the night to allow access. No remote for the TV, and the room, whilst clean, was very minimalist. I suppose you get what you pay for.Plus it is in a very seedy area.

Please read all

I'm going to do this short as poss for you all,
rooms 9/10, parking 9/10, service desk and staff 9/10, value for money,10/10,
cleanliness 9/10,
breakfast 5/10, bar food (meals ) 5/10,
i would return again as i was very happy with hotel and costs,
but to help improve it and help you,
breakfast is basic, cornflake and toast, orange juice or tea or coffee, thats it, unless you pay for cooked breakfast, cheep but small,
meals= food tastes good and cost are very fare, but on all the time i stayed,60% was out of stock, and meal size was ok .
some rooms where very noisy at night time,(no 45) bad, water pumps going all night, some do have noise floors above too.
but i would return as i think this hotel if putting things like the above write.
is very good and value for money, rooms are modern and all have nice showers/or baths and flat tv screens,
i understand its a fare size hotel and things all ways need doing,(fare)
but meals could easy be improved, it has big kitchen with it,
i think if they sort this out , they will do very well and get better than they are, oval score 8/10.
many thanks Darren

First stay at Norfolk House since last summer. Refurbishment work now complete and associated problems with rooms now seem to have been resolved.
Although room on small side it was warm & clean. Only disappointing thing was shower facilities. Lack of tray or basket to hold soap, shower gel, shampoo, etc was certainly a convenience.

Room for improvement

We stayed at the Norfolk House Saturday night (myself, husband, daughter, son-in-law and 2 young grandsons) and I am very glad we were not staying longer.
Even allowing for the extensive refurbishment going on, the lack of service or communication about the work and its consequences soured the stay.
Our room - had only one bedside cabinet, no chair, no milk for the tea/coffee, and no loo brush. The fire escape door to the open was wedged open from arrival to departure, making the corridor very cold. We would normally have taken our complaints to reception, but their response to a fellow customer on our arrival didn't give us any reason to hope for any positive reaction.
Breakfast - the electrics to the kitchen dining area were out, possibly as a result of the refurbishment work, but did not extend to the rest of the hotel. Not one of the staff offered any explanation/apology. The tea and coffee jugs were tepid and toast not available. We all ate in the dark! It would not take rocket science to provide these using electricity available in the next room. Again, no explanation/no apology.
Check out - no acknowledgment of our presence at all.
It may not have been the best time to judge the hotel, and it did provide a clean bed for the night, but it was not a good experience, and competent management would have made all the difference
My daughter's experience not much better, the boys room had no light, the shower over bath was too short for her husband and in fairly poor condition, and a smashed plug socket in boys room.

Wanted somewhere near brixton for a night

We needed a room near(ish) to brixton as we were going to a gig there and wanted to stay over night.
the room was clean and a good size compared to our 2 friends' room who also came with us.
my only complaint was that our room was ridiculously hot and we couldn't find a way to turn the radiator down or off. and we had a velux kind of window above the bed with no blind so the sun shone right in our faces making it hard to sleep - i ended up with a jumper over my face to block out the light!
it served it's purpose though, and although i wouldn't stay there again - the main reason is that it's just too far out from where we needed to be.

Pleasantly surprised

Well after the awful reviews on here I was a bit nervous about my stay but it really was unfounded. Yes the foyer and public rooms and the hallways are a little tired and dated though clean, the bar was good but often unattended, it was a bit 80's to be honest.
HOWEVER I was upgraded from a single room to a double room and from the minute I opened the fire door to the floor I was on, well what a surprise, brand new carpets and freshly painted walls and doors, all in shades of grey. I opened my room door and what a surprise it was, trendy brand new bathroom with all mod cons, nice room though a little small though I have stayed in MUCH smaller in London. Flat screen TV with remote, nice window dressing and down lights all new and trendy. Tea and coffee making facilities were quite adequate. Nice comfy bed with a heater in the room which I didn't need as it happens. I asked for an iron and ironing board and they were promptly given to me as was a corkscrew when I bought wine without a twist top. :)
Although this is on a busy road I had no trouble sleeping at all. The breakfast was coffee or tea, 2 kinds of cereal, 2 kinds of fruit juice and either white bread or brown and jam/butter, not as somebody said just lying there on a table but a lady toasted it for you. All of the staff were nice and friendly but unobtrusive. Buses outside the front door, shops and the railway station within walking distance and half an hour on the train from London. All in all a great bargain for the budge traveller.

Didn't like this at all

The facade looks quite good, and the parking is useful, but the room was very poor. The bathroom had an incredibly strong odour of cigarettes - I found it hard to believe that there wasn't a tobacco smoking contest being held in their when I first opened the door. The bed was less comfortable than sleeping on a bench at the airport, and the general decor was very tired. I wouldn't stay here again.

Otherwise cheap and cheerfull no frills but for £49 per night was ideal

Unacceptable

I have to say that having only two hotels to choose from i wish i had opted for the other. It started with a rather cold greeting at reception stemming to the receptionist using the counter as a hammer to make the credit card machine work, this took 15mins to address.
I was then given my room and to my utter shock i found people and baggage in there, so i negotiated my way back to reception who claimed that i wasnt telling the truth and after some phone calls then issuued me with another room key without an apology.
The room itself was appaling to say the least, in desparate need of repair, no aircon, limited towels, very poor hot drinks faciltities, a TV mount that was hanging from the wall by its threads, very dark, no pictures to brighten the place up. Nothing to make it appealing.
I know i paid £90 for this room But you would expect a more pleasant experience. I would recommend that nobody stays here until it is refurbed at the minimum and the staff are changed. I will never stay here again!!!!

Its cheap...

Probably one of the worst 'hotels' I have stayed in. If you find an english speaking staff member they may turn out to be rather rude and un helpful. My first allocated room was on the unfinished 4th floor complete with non working tv and no phone. My second room was a time warp back to 1972. Dont use the lift because it broke down and dont expect too much in the way of the 'continental' breakfast...its toast and cornflakes. It was £35 per night so I didnt expect too much but I have stayed at other budget hotels and have had a better experience.

Upon arrival the staff seemed disinterested in the customers. The room was disgusting, dirty carpets, paint peeling off radiator, TV that had only 2 working channels, shower that was filthy, taps that were broken...the list goes on. Breakfast was a joke - cornflakes was the only choice. I travel up and down the UK for business and at this price I would expect much, much better. Look elsewhere.

Horrible place

Where to start? The completely unhelpful reception staff who's only task is to take your money then ignore you? Or the poor girl in the bar who seems to do every other job in the place? The evening meal menu appears to have been constructed with the idea of forcing you to go out to eat in a very very run down area of London, where you will be jeered at and abused by various foreign "locals" If you choose to stay in the hotel and eat be prepared for a menu that even McDonalds wouldn't dare to serve . . . with sweet chilli sauce on virtually everything.Or the chaotic breakfast where you are totally ignored unless you hammer on the counter to get some attention? The fruit juice is watered down to such a point that is unrecognisable as fruit juice, similarly the tea and coffee. Breakfast appears to consist of toast and smartprice cerals unless you agree to be fleeced even further when you arrive, an English breakfast appears to conform to some sort of relgious ideal rather than being bacon and sausages.
The rooms (some) are undergoing refurb - not mentioned at time of booking. So if you are really lucky you will get a painter wandering into your room whilst you are showering. Trying to get reception to print you a receipt for anything other than your room (you are indecently hastily separated from the cost of that as soon as you arrive) is an impossibility. I'm not even sure if the incorrect VAT number on their invoice is an accident either.
It would also help to be an afficionado of large groups of foreigners gathering outside your window whilst waiting to enter, or leaving the Mosque next door.
In not so short, it is the hotel from hell, to be avoided by anyone who is not used to being treated like second class cattle by the management.
There is an upside, however, the beer is less than £3 a pint, cheaper than the surrounding ghetto pubs.

The hotel was dated and in need of upgrading. The toilet was loose and toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall there was rotten timber at the base of the shower.
Shortly after booking in I realised that part of the hotel was rented accommodation for long stay.
