Lovely stay

The Montague is an exceptionally well appointed hotel. The public rooms are attractively decorated and furnished but certainly not understated! Our only reservation was that our room, whilst being beautifully decorated and having all the facilities we would have expected, was very small. There was insufficient space to store luggage or to move around. The staff were, without exception, helpful, attentive and friendly. The hotel is well located in a quiet area yet accessible to theatres, restaurants and attractions.

Best kept secret!

We found this hotel about 3 years ago and loved it. When we go to London to visit our daughters, we always stay here. The staff are really friendly, the hotel is just magical, we call it our little secret. We met another couple there and they usually stay at one of the very posh well-known hotels but stayed here for a change. They couldn't believe it and said they would definately stay at the Montague when they came again. Please have the afternoon tea, its fabulous. For the gentlemen who like a cigar, there is something special for you as well. The outside area is very comfortable and if its chilly, they will provide you with a blanket! It's tops!!!!

A hotel which grows on you

Not quite as much cosseting as the Milestone or Egerton House, but then not quite the same price either.
Faultless service; spotless, well-lit, well-ventilated room (if a touch on the small side); excellent bathroom; good breakfast too..
This is a hotel which grows on you, as do all of those in the Red Carnation group.

A garden oasis in the heart of London

The Montague on the Gardens is a quiet oasis in a busy city. From the hustle and bustle of the streets outside, especially given its proximity to the British Museum, it is a welcome relief to step into its calm foyer and be instantly pampered by the attentions of its excellent staff.
The wine selection is excellent and the mint panacotta to die for.
From home made biscuits and and indulgent toiletries to total control over efficient air conditioning the Montague is certainly a hotel to be highly recommended.

One night stop

We enjoyed our one night at the hotel very much and would book again when next in London. The staff were very friendly, the room was quiet if a little small and the terrace area was great to relax and sip cocktails.

Business trip

Very nice hotel, quiet location, well located for rail, underground and the like. very good customer service, good food, nicely appointed comfortable rooms. My only observation was that the room I had was very small and a little too cramped for working in effectively. This said, I would definately consider staying here again but requesting a larger room.

Your very own haven in Bloomsbury

There is something rather special about the Montague which makes you feel you have discovered your own little haven in the middle of Bloomsbury. I suppose our enjoyment might have been enhanced by the fact that it was snowing and Russell Square looked wonderfully festive, but my husband and I have rarely enjoyed an overnight stay so much. The hotel has sumptious cosy spaces to relax and the restaurant food was superb, but what sets this little place apart was wonderful customer service where every member of staff made us feel that we were very special guests. The little extra touches (which appeared as if by magic every time we returned to our suite) just added to the joy of it all. The rooms here are small (as other guests were also heard to comment) and our suite (Baron) was really only the size of a large room in other hotels, but the whole ambience (and great location) of this hotel made us surprisingly willing to overlook such things. Go on, treat yourself!

Great hotel

The hotel was excellent. Well appointed, luxurious accommodation, good food etc. I have often passed this hotel and wanted to stay but it was always too pricey for during the week. My friend and I had a minimum two night weekend stay which included breakfast and a bottle of champagne. The room was large and faced the gardens (which were an unexpected bonus). The staff were very attentive - perhaps too much so sometimes. Our only niggles were that we has asked for the champagne to be delivered at 6 p.m. and it took two telephone calls to reception and a 40 minute wait before it arrived; and the breakfast on the Sunday was somewhat rushed so that we had to ask for our tea/coffee twice and the toast appeared not to have been anywhere near a grill. These were minor points however and I would certainly recommend it to others - especially middle aged women wanting a little luxury in the heart of Bloomsbury.

Rooms are slightly small but I guess thats the price to pay for a centrally located hotel in London.

A gem of a hotel. All aspects were excellent from the moment you check in ...to the moment you leave. We will certainly stay again. The room layout was excellent and well presented if i was being over critical the room was not large but certainly had all we could expect and more. Its the little touches that make the difference and the Montaque had this.

Short Stay Montague on the Gardens

Stayed for two nights at this Hotel. Room on the small side but I think that's usual for London. Service at this Hotel was excellent, very attentive staff. Booked through Laterooms and found we also has a choice of Free bottle of Chapagne, Tickets for British Museum or pre theatre meal. We opted for the latter which was excellent.
Pricey Hotel but well worth it for a treat.

Superb Hotel

We stayed at the Montague for our 25th Weddding Anniversary and could not find a fault with this hotel. The room was fantastic, the service was very friendly and efficient. Having stayed in hotels on a regular basis for the past 25 years we have to say that this is the best that we have stayed in. Cannot understand why this is not a 5 Star rated hotel. Afternoon tea is a must and the winter wonderland is worth the experience. The hotel is located in a very nice and quiet area and is only a couple of minutes walk to Oxford Street and public transport.

Very quiet room in the middle of London

Brilliant situation opposite the Britsh Musem and next to Russel Square, and one tube stop away from Kings Cross/St Pancras station.. As a result the rooms that I stayed in this year and last year were very quiet. Although I had a complimentary upgrade my single superior room was still very compact, but probably normal for London standards. Everything was spotless, cafetiere coffee ( a first) and tea/ hot chocolate provided (a first), as well as complimentary bottles of water. Breakfast was average but the evening meal was outstanding. Also enjoyed the piano entertainment in the bar.
Top marks!
For a short stay in London definitelty this is the hotel I would recommend for this area, hving stayed in Bedford Road, and the Russel Hotel in the past.

Weary traveller arrives at hotel

After a long working day in London I felt tired and jaded. On arrival the hotel porter greeted me and swept my heavy bag to his care. Relieved of this burden I entered the Montague ,an oasis of refined calm. The smiling receptionists welcomed me, adding to my already dissolving tiredness and efficiently organised my room. Within minutes I entered this inner sanctum, a quiet, tastefully furnished room with colours of calm. The hotel cuisine maintained the excellent standard set. and I began to feel on vacation despite my heavy workload. I slept well and following a shower and superb breakfast I was on my way back to face another days hard work in London, fully refreshed by my short but enjoyable nights holiday.

Weekend break

We wanted somewhere close to the West End for easy access to theatres, restaurants and shops. This hotel is ideal and within easy walking of all the above.
Although the room was small, it was immaculately clean and everything worked.
The staff were exceptionally good - friendly but not imposing and eager to help.
The breakfast was disappointing in terms of choice and the fruit was tasteless. For the price, it was not good enough and we went to a nearby café the next day.
The rate for the room we got was fairly average for a hotel of this quality but if we had paid the full price, I would have been disappointed with the room size.
All in all, I would recommend it as a great place to stay if you want to get to the West End of London easily but stay in a quiet area

Pre-Christmas theatre trip

We arrived in the snow and found the hotel warm and welcoming. The hotel is well staffed and they were all, without exception, very pleasant. Due to the weather we abandoned our plans for museums and Christmas shopping and had a very nice lunch in the bar instead. Breakfast was enjoyable but quite expensive for a buffet. Room was quite small but well equipped and had everything we needed. Only one small problem - the bedroom heating system was quite difficult to control but as we were only there for one night we didn't get around to asking for assistance which I am sure would have been forthcoming as everyone was so helpful.

Charming hotel

The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient.
Our bedroom was very nice and traditionally decorated everything was clean and bright and very comfortable.
Unfortunately we could not use some of the public rooms, conservatory and the garden on the Saturday as there was a wedding reception in the hotel. This was a bit of a shame because the staff had said earlier, when I had telephoned to enquire, that when my son and family (including a toddler) came to meet us we could let my grandson have a run around the garden and we could enjoy a coffee together in the conservatory.
The hotel is very handy for the British Museum and not far from the tube.
