Make like a VIP in Mayfair

The staff were lovely – I mentioned it was my husband's birthday and they upgraded us to our own suite with views over Grosvenor Square. This is a hotel in the grand style rather than the boutique hotels we usually favour, but it was classic rather than chintzy and we had a fabulous stay. Plus the hotel was wonderfully quiet - plenty of guests but no banging doors! We were eating at Gordon Ramsay's Maze restaurant which is also on Grosvenor Square, so this was the ideal place to stay. I highly recommend.

Excellent stylish and comfortable base in Mayfair

My second stay and very pleased again with the standard. Was a little disappointed only to have a room with ensuite shower instead of bath this time, and there were no slippers provided, whereas there were on my first visit. Will still return though - an excellent central base and very good value for meney if you book ahead.

I was really impressed with this hotel. i've stayed in some really grotty london hotels, with microscopic rooms and so was braced for disappointment. I was upgraded to a superior room on arrival and it was a really lovely room, large and well decorated and really a great base for a stay in London.

I had specifically requested a quiet room as I am a light sleeper. I discovered my room was on the first floor directly above the taxi rank. The receptionist told me quite simply that all rooms were sold out and that changing to another room was not possible; this in spite of my having booked the room a month in advance. However, the receptionist did say that if I wanted to 'upgrade' by paying an additional £45 per night, a room change was in fact possible. Clearly she was not interested in customer service, but only in sales. Since, as I determined later, my room fare had been booked from my credit card immediately on an irrevocable basis, instead of at the hotel as had been indicated on the website, it became clear the hotel figured they had the upper hand. After a busy week with little sleep owing to the noise outside my room, I was shattered. Though I've stayed at this hotel numerous times before, I doubt very sincerely that I will stay here again. By the way, I consider £20 per day for internet access an effrontery.

Very noisy

Nice hotel, centrally located. However we had a room overlooking Grosvenor sq and the noise at night was terrible- taxis, police cars. This lasted until 4am then we were awake from 6. Also one of the windows had the double glazing removed so the room was also cold!

Didn't quite live up to expectations

I found this stay a little frustrating. The room was nice enough; a little small but this is London so not unexpected. I would *not* pay the full rate they charge for a room at this hotel and do not think you get great value for your money at the rate I paid. We booked two successive nights, albeit in two separate transactions but the hotel were unable to check us in for the two nights and even though we stayed in the same room, we had to check in again for the second night. There were supposed to be robes in the room, which weren't there and it took several requests before some were finally delivered. The mini bar was empty when we arrived.
In general, okay. I've stayed in much better hotels for much less money. And had free internet access too.

Breakfast !!!

This is where our experience took a dive. Up until now we had had a lovely break with no complaints whatsoever. We had to queue for a while to get into the breakfast hall but this was not an issue. Once seated we went to the queue for the cooked breakfasts - only to get a sausage and bacon - no mushrooms - no hash browns no beans so we had to wait - eventually these were brought out in dribs and drabs only to sit down to cold sausage and bacon! And our beverages and toasts had all been cleared away. When I enquired the lady brought me some cold toast off another table - this was doubtfully my original pieces - she could see we had left our glasses and paper on the table so we were coming back.

Rooms need a little attention.

The hotel was ideally situated in a beautiful area, and the entrance, bar, restaurant (all public areas) were immaculately clean, and well presented. The staff were quite friendly, particularly the doorman. The breakfast was OK but not fabulous and quite expensive for the quality. The room however I was a little disappointed with, and had I paid full price I would have been distraught! There was no view, our window overlooked a roof top and some sort of rooftop building. The bathroom was not spotless, and was worn, as is the paintwork on all door frames. There was a gap to the main door that let enough light in to disturb your sleep, and the water tank "growled" each time you flushed the loo. There were some stains on the carpet, and although the bed was clean and fresh, the "join" in the centre of the bed and the uncomfortably high pillows did not make for a good nights sleep. Not worth the original price tag, and the price of £139 we paid I have stayed in much nicer places for less.

On arriving in my room it was clear that the room had not been cleaned properly there were dirty coffee cups and newspapers strewn all over. I called for assitance but no one arrived to rectify the situation. I have since complained with no response at all. Also the fire alarm went off at 5am and we were sent out in the freezing cold for half an hour. Overall an appalling experience !

Disappointed

I was not pleased with the accomodation at the hotel. On booking the room, i requested to have a double bed or twin bed. However, upon arrival i was told that neither was available and only two sinlge beds apart were available. This was not stated on the terms. As a result, i did not enjoy my stay which i had booked as a present and definatly did not feel i was gettin my £186 worth. If i wanted two single beds apart, i could have easily got that for half the price and somewhere much closer to home.

As soon as we arived we were being asked to upgrade to a "better" room because our room wasnt ready!!! even though we got there after the check in time. I had already paid £200 for the room i didnt expect an additional cost. If the room wasnt ready it should of been a free upgrade, am i wrong?? Paying the extra £40 just to get into a room we fount the bathroom tiny and the main room a little scruffy. And the mini bar had a half eaten packet of nuts.. The optional extras were disapointing too! why are bath robes extra money when paying £240 for a room. That to me is a joke. We stayed our second night in a different hotel for a 3rd of the price and the mini bar was all complimentary and they had robes!! All in all it wasnt a great stay and for that kind of money i wont be staying again.

Perfect location for Black Tie Dinner & Award Ceremony in Mayfair

When I arrived at the hotel their computer system was down for maintenance however I was looked after by an attentive receptionist very efficiently. Although my room was smaller than I expected it had a full size king bed with decent duvet & pillows. The bed was very comfortable. The shower was excellent with decent pressure but the bath was only 3/4 size. The ironing board & iron were very useful and best of all I was only a 5 minute walk or less from the hotel holding the awards.

I stayed at the Millennium Hotel in London Mayfair the 17th and 18th of December. The room was very nice and comfortable even if the air conditioning wasn't working properly, I would suggest to check as soon as you enter your room. The overall service is excellent.

Everything from making the reservation to check-out was wonderful. The room was a bit small but from what I gather, on par with other accommodations for the price and location. The bed was very comfy! My only complaint has to do with the poor service we received in the lounge by the cocktail waitress. We sat unacknowledged for over 10 minutes. The order was incorrect, with no apology for the mistake. She never checked back with us to see if we required anything else and our check was not presented until we stood up to leave. Very disappointing as everything else was wonderful!

Good location, disappointing facilities

The room was clean and quite spacious. Unfortunately there was no bath, only a shower. The shower was perhaps designed to be like a wet room, but unfortunately whenever we had a shower the whole bathroom floor became flooded. We had to use loads of towels to mop up the excess water, as well as being concerned about slipping over on the wet tiles! Had to request extra towels just to throw down on the floor. The hospitality tray was also disappointingly sparse. Just enough to make a cup of tea each upon check-in and one cup of coffee in the morning - no biscuits and very little milk.

We had a lovely time as all the staff are very attentive to your needs.

Affordable Luxury in Mayfair.

At a room rate of a little more than 30% of the published price, The Millenium is a real bargain. The location is perfect, the accommodation discretely luxurious and every one of the staff from doormen to cleaners friendly and attentive. The first room we were allocated (in the original building fronting Grovesnor Square) smelled strongly of damp but we were immediately upgraded to a larger room in the newer extension at the rear of the hotel without argument. My only small complaint would be the excessive charge and inflexible tariff for internet use, which in 2012 seems to my mind a bit like charging for tapwater. That aside I would recommend The Millenium to anyone in need of a little affordable luxury among the super rich of W1.
