I was really impressed with this hotel. i've stayed in some really grotty london hotels, with microscopic rooms and so was braced for disappointment. I was upgraded to a superior room on arrival and it was a really lovely room, large and well decorated and really a great base for a stay in London.

I had specifically requested a quiet room as I am a light sleeper. I discovered my room was on the first floor directly above the taxi rank. The receptionist told me quite simply that all rooms were sold out and that changing to another room was not possible; this in spite of my having booked the room a month in advance. However, the receptionist did say that if I wanted to 'upgrade' by paying an additional £45 per night, a room change was in fact possible. Clearly she was not interested in customer service, but only in sales. Since, as I determined later, my room fare had been booked from my credit card immediately on an irrevocable basis, instead of at the hotel as had been indicated on the website, it became clear the hotel figured they had the upper hand. After a busy week with little sleep owing to the noise outside my room, I was shattered. Though I've stayed at this hotel numerous times before, I doubt very sincerely that I will stay here again. By the way, I consider £20 per day for internet access an effrontery.

How good customer service pulls it back...almost

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night, we were attending a black tie ball at an adjacent hotel.
We were delighted with early check in, able to get in our room just after midday.
It wasn't until later in the afternoon that I noted that the heating in the bathroom was not working - and it was a very cold day. After phoning reception maintenance arrived within 5 minutes. Unable to fix the problem we were relocated 3 rooms down. Fast customer service pulled this back for us.
We would want to say that as the maintenace man was aware of the lack of heating in the bathroom, due to an imminent repair the room should not have been allocated to us at all.
However - we did not appreciate the offer from a team memebr that "the NCP is £25 but I may be able to find you a place on the forecourt for £20". Assume the managment are aware of this as there were at least 6 cars outside - presumably giving the concierge/door staff a cool £120 a day!!

Very noisy

Nice hotel, centrally located. However we had a room overlooking Grosvenor sq and the noise at night was terrible- taxis, police cars. This lasted until 4am then we were awake from 6. Also one of the windows had the double glazing removed so the room was also cold!
