I needed somewhere near the Globe Theatre and the Mercure was extremely convenient.
The welcome was friendly and courteous and a call to the room established that I had found things to my satisfaction.
I was a bit foxed by the shower which one has to stand in front of while turning it on. This means a blast of cold water or an ungainly sashay to the other end of the bath. The bath was slippery and, though I might have taken warning from the presence of a rubber mat (Thank you!) the patterned floor of the bath did lead one to expect it to be slip-proof.
My only other negative comment was that the introductory letter left in the room did not say where the breakfast room was. Indeed, I couldn't find this information anywhere in my room or in the lift - where the Gym and Reception were listed as being on the relevant floor.
As I hadn't noticed the "Loft" in passing it on entry, the following morning I took the lift to the seventh floor (the name 'Loft' suggesting somewhere high up!) Finding nothing there, I went back to my room and confirmed that the information wasn't there before calling Reception and being told it was on the Ground Floor. It was of no great consequence but, had I been in a hurry, it might have been.
I mentioned this to the receptionists, suggesting that the welcome letter should include the information of where to find one's breakfast. They were perfectly polite, but I'm not sure the idea was wholeheartedly embraced!
Apart from these small gripes, I was very happy with the hotel, particularly the size of the room which allowed one to do a bit of cat-swinging - my personal hobby!
I shall certainly stay at the Mercure again if circumstances repeat themselves.
