Grateful for some Space

I needed somewhere near the Globe Theatre and the Mercure was extremely convenient.
The welcome was friendly and courteous and a call to the room established that I had found things to my satisfaction.
I was a bit foxed by the shower which one has to stand in front of while turning it on. This means a blast of cold water or an ungainly sashay to the other end of the bath. The bath was slippery and, though I might have taken warning from the presence of a rubber mat (Thank you!) the patterned floor of the bath did lead one to expect it to be slip-proof.
My only other negative comment was that the introductory letter left in the room did not say where the breakfast room was. Indeed, I couldn't find this information anywhere in my room or in the lift - where the Gym and Reception were listed as being on the relevant floor.
As I hadn't noticed the "Loft" in passing it on entry, the following morning I took the lift to the seventh floor (the name 'Loft' suggesting somewhere high up!) Finding nothing there, I went back to my room and confirmed that the information wasn't there before calling Reception and being told it was on the Ground Floor. It was of no great consequence but, had I been in a hurry, it might have been.
I mentioned this to the receptionists, suggesting that the welcome letter should include the information of where to find one's breakfast. They were perfectly polite, but I'm not sure the idea was wholeheartedly embraced!
Apart from these small gripes, I was very happy with the hotel, particularly the size of the room which allowed one to do a bit of cat-swinging - my personal hobby!
I shall certainly stay at the Mercure again if circumstances repeat themselves.

Clean good hotel with helpful staff. Slightly further out from the tourist areas although very easy to get around using the underground. Easy walk to the nearest underground station .

Won't be going back

On the fifth floor with 2 out-of-order lifts. Tried to get food at 11pm and they were only doing microwave pizza for ~£10. What, no club sandwich, even!?! Couldn't find anything nearby either. Very bland hotel that looks to me like it's well past its refresh date. Won't be going back.

Excellent value for money. The only thing to criticise is the hotel rooms are a little lacking in atmosphere - everything was superb. Incredibly friendly, helpful staff, good restaurant, extensive breakfast menu available, including if you want it in your room. Great location - and therefore excellent value for money.
Would definitely stay again/ recommend!

Great location for exploring the South Bank

Good reception. Great room which was quiet even though it overlooked a busy street. Free wi-fi in the reception area, but strangely not in the rooms. The normal rate is expensive, but quite reasonable when booked through laterooms.
The location is great for exploring the many sights around the south bank area. Particularly good and reasonably priced is the Old Operating Theatre and the Golden Hinde (especially for kids) who can pretend to be pirates for an hour or so while parents consider the how uncomfortable trans ocean trips would have been.

Useful find

We stayed here because we were attending a function at Tate Modern, which is very close by. Staff at the Mercure were particularly welcoming and the room, while not terribly big, was comfortable. The inclusive English breakfast was decent enough. Will stay again if location suits.

Super smiley !

Staff were frighteningly friendly but really trying to make you feel welcome, which through conversation came through as pretty genuine.
Apart from the hum of the ventilation system outside the window, the room was of a very high standard and spotless. Huge bed and comfortable.
Breakfast was suprisingly well thought out for non- full english eaters, with good muesli and fruit selection as well as top croissants, and a proper pot of tea. Not many hotels get this right so well done.

Great location and price

The hotel has a great central location, just behind Tate Modern, the room was very well designed and furnished and the people on the desk were very polite and professional, my only negative comment is that I did ask for a wake up call, but it never came.

Happy New Year!

We stayed here at New Year, and welcomed the hotel's relaxed approach to the festive occasion, extending breakfast hours to 1pm! Staff were welcoming, attentive and helpful. Very well located for the South Bank, a nice, spacious room at the back, so didn't get street noise.

One night business stay

Very good location and I have stayed here many times over the last 10 years.
Price of the room was at rack rate, which is very expensive for this hotel.
Aircon did not work and leaving the window open was not an option as Southwark Street traffic never stops.
I would stay here again, as the location is so good, however, I would hope for a better rate.

Great Location - Good Hotel

This is what would expect from the cost. A modern clean hotel with straight lines. Everything was in its lpace and i got exactly what I expected. The big bonus for me is that it is in a superb location - very close to the river, tubes, railway stations and most importantly, the Tate Modern.

Ideal Location

We have stayed several times at Bankside Mercure, mainly to attend functions at Westminster Abbey, St Pauls Cathedral and St Clement Danes church, all of which are within reasonable walking distance. The staff are always very friendly and helpfull. Rooms are clean and quite large. We always arrive by car and so far have always been able to park behind the hotel for free (remember the congestion charge during the week, though). Hotel prices are reasonable for the weekend but expensive during week days. Breakfast is very good if included in price. Quite a few good restaraunts localy, including a Leons and Del Aziz.
