The room was in the attic which made access with luggage a challenge. It was basic in terms of furnishings but very clean. A full length mirror would have been helpful - the dressing table was the smallest I have ever seen! Strange that a hotel would choose peak holiday season to redecorate the staircases! Only two towels in the bathroom and none available when we asked for more. Breakfast very average - tea and coffee barely drinkable. Would it really be o hard to get a coffee filter machine?

This hotel is within very easy walking distance of Euston, St Pancras and Euston Stations. The room was basic but well maintained and clean. The bathroom was modern and had both a bath and a shower. The breakfast was good with decent bacon and sausages. It is not fancy but is excellent value and I would certainly return.

I booked this hotel just over 2 weeks before I was due to stay and received confirmation of the booking. I indicated on the booking form that I would be arriving at approximately 11pm. I arrived at about 10.30pm and was told that, although the booking had been received, there was no room for me. No explanation as to why this was.
The receptionist had managed to find an alternative room in the hotel next door (not en-suite like the room I had booked, but a bed at least) and told me that I would not find anywhere else. I was glad not to have to sleep on the street and at least the Mentone did find me an alternative bed, but this is the only positive comment that can be made about this booking.

Not bad at all for what I needed.
Booked on the day thro' late rooms at 49 for B&B, was quoted 65 on the phone by the hotel.
I would say it is worth the 49, but not really 65, Room was very clean and tidy, although very small, but all I wanted was a bed for the night. Breakfast was not bad. Staff nice and friendly and helpful, would certainly stay again, is a lot better than other similar price ones that I have stayed in around the same area. plenty of nearby eating and drinking places and conveinient for tubes and main line.

Arriving before check-in time, I was graciously permitted to log on to the hotel's wi-fi to check an important airline flight connection. My room was modest but well appointed, with everything in good working order except the TV -- some kind of bad connection. The hotel is in a very quiet location but convenient to many attractions. Breakfast was fast, hot, and good. I was quite satisfied with my stay.

If you need a clean, comfortable bed for the night and a half decent breakfast, this hotel is great. For a 2 star and for the price, the hotel was much better than we had expected. Our room was very spacious. The bathroom was very clean, though the double bed was a bit tight for two people. The walls are a bit thin and we could hear noises from the above room and the front door during the night. Breakfast was really good. Surprisingly, and disappointingly, however, there was no vegetarian option, which means the hot breakfast would just consist of egg and toast. The location was fantastic, less than a five minute walk away from Euston station. Staff was also very helpful - the gentleman at the front desk pointed out that we could park our car right outside the front door for free for the Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, saving us some hefty parking fees! We would stay here again.

This is a very friendly hotel in an excellent location. The room was spacious with a good quality en-suite. Staff were very helpful. The reception staff were very welcoming on arrival.
Within minutes of being in our room a knock came on the door and we were asked if all was ok and if we had enough towels. We had an early start so were impressed with the service at breakfast. Plenty to eat from the self service plus a full English Breakfast.
Being off the main drag there was no traffic noise which is another bonus.
Very close to underground stations Kings Cross/Euston and Russell Square. Situated well for a short walk to many restaurants for an evening meal. Ideal for patients of the National Neurology Hospital as this is also a short walk away.
Good value for money. I would certainly stay again and would recommend to friends.
We stayed at the Mentone for 1 night on the 24th May 09, the hotel is within 6-7 mins walking distance to Euston station, which was excellent for us. The nearest tube only about 4 mins walk, Russell square, on the Piccadilly line. The hotel proved really good value for money, although they are in the middle of a refurbishment, we had a lovely large room at the front of the hotel, clean and had all you need for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was excellent, my partner said it was the best he'd had in a long time. Will deifinitely return, on our next stay in London.

I chose this hotel because I needed a cheap hotel near Great Ormond street hospital for my son and I to stay in the night before his appointment(we were coming a long way). It fitted the bill as far as price(for London)and location were concerned, but unfortunately the room was drab,&dingy and there was no plug in the sink. Yet admittedly, it was clean so I didn't really mind the smaller problems. However the worst thing of all was it was terribly noisy. It was in the basement near to the breakfast room and just downstairs from the reception where people spoke really noisily until midnight. There was much clattering of feet coming up and down the stairs opposite our room constantly and the steps to the entrance were just outside our window so we also heard all the comings and goings there plus the chatter of people who had gone out to smoke on the steps. This made for a very short night's sleep indeed and not good for a child. Unfortunately my little boy was in bed by the time I realised so i couldn't ask for another room. I can't say whether the other rooms were as bad, but I wouldn't stay in the basement again, especially with a child in bad health. On the plus side the breakfast was good and they gave me a triple room instead of a double. I wonder if I'd have been given such a bad room if I had not been a woman with a child, or not with laterooms.

The breakfast finished at 9:30am which I personally thing is too early for Saturday morning, so we missed that and can't comment on the quality of the food.

The room was on the 4th floor and there is no lift, which was not a problem but might be important to others. The room was quite small, but had a good size bed for one person and was good value for money. The room was clean, but there was a strong smell of smoke during waking hours- I was in a non-smoking room, but I presume the smoke came from non-smoking rooms nearby. The breakfast was quite good and was served from 7.30am to 9am, although there was a 10-15 minute delay for cooked breakfast and toast when I arrived for breakfast at 7.30am.
The only real problem was the shower in my en-suite- I tried to use it at about 7.35am on the first day and could barely get a trickle of water and could not get hot water. After 5 minutes or so the water warmed slightly but showering was still not a pleasant experience. I asked reception about this and they advised me to shower earlier. At 6.45am the water was hot and the water pressure was better.
The charges for the room were very reasonable- 60 per night in central London with an en-suite and breakfast included.

I thought it was a nice hotel. The furniture creaked a bit when I walked across the floor, but that can't really be helped in an old building like that. A warning about the steep stairs might be good in case people have heavy luggage. The cooked breakfast didn't seem to include any veg on the side like tomatoes or mushrooms, but the bacon and egg was good (and there was fruit etc. provided). These are minor caveats, I had a very nice stay there. The free wireless Internet was a bonus.

We stayed in room # 4 of this accomodation. The noise from the room directly above was quite bad. If it was at "waking hours", it wouldn't have been a problem; but it was after midnight, and started again at 5am. It was mostly just footsteps across the floor - maybe the soundproofing between rooms was poor, but it was certainly enough to wake us up. Didn't spoil London for us though - a great city. I have stayed at the Mentone a few times when having overnight stays in London. It's a very quick walk from Kings Cross, St Pancras and Euston. It is on a very quiet crescent, despite being just off Euston Road. I always stay there alone, arriving after dark and it feels a safe area. Partly this is because there are student residences along the street and over the gardens, so there are often people around. The reception is friendly and helpful. The interior is much less grand than the exterior might suggest. It is slightly shabby inside, but always clean. For me, it is affordable, safe and friendly for an overnight stay.

For the price we paid it was good value for money (late deal) and is within easy reach of a main underground station. We did expect it to be a bit quieter at night being in a crescent, but as it was one of the hotest nights of the year we had to sleep with the window open so some outside noise was expected (it didn't go on too late though). We did have a heavy footed 'elephant' in the room above us (top floor) who was pacing up and down on squeaky floor boards which was annoying. The room was very clean and quite basic, and it appeared to have a new en suite which was nice. The routes to the rooms look a bit tired but our room more than made up for that. The english breakfast was ok and enough, and cerial, toast, fruit, yogurt etc were also available. I would advise anyone thinking of staying not to leave it too late to go down to breakfast as the room does not accommodate everyone if the hotel is fully booked. There was some element of queueing by those who left it to the last minute to arrive for breakfast. I would use the hotel again but would ask for a room at the rear and on the top floor (to avoid the elephant on the squeaky floorboards!)

poor quality breakfast, small portion and slow service. Seemed to be inconsistent between guests. However, overall good value for money as the room was very comfortable and the hotel so well situated.

Reception stayed open to allow for a late check in after 23:00; which was excellent. But the shower was cold the next morning and the wallpaper ripped.
Cheap and cheerful, OK for a night.

Good location a few minutes walk from Russel Square tube, near main roads for taxis and buses. Perfect for a short stay e.g. after a work do or during a stop over.

Hotel was easy to find, though no directions were given to walk from tube stations, which would have been helpful. There were workmen working in the room above ours during the afternoon we arrived, and from 9.00 o'clock on the morning of our departure, this was very noisy and intrusive.

Building work was ongoing, from about 8:30 am to 9pm, which meant you couldn't hear yourself think (much less watch tv) in the room bewteen those times. Paper think walls + creaky floors also meant that it wasn't quiet the rest of the time.

i would have liked to have heating when i gained access to my room at 2am and not to have it on all night - i went from too cold to overheated in the night, which meant i didnt sleep well. Other than that the hotel was just fine.

It was our first visit in London, and the location of the hotel was perfect for getting around in the city. The only really negative thing was that I couldnt sleep because of the people that stayed in the room on the next floor. I dont wake up easily, but when they walked around I thought the roof was coming down... But it was a nice hotel, a big room, clean bathroom, and the breakfast was ok. Maybe I would stay there again, but probably I would try a new hotel so Id have something to compare with.

The hotel was billed on the Late Rooms pages as a 3 star. It is not a 3 star hotel, nor could it be without a restaurant and bar. In fact, it has 3 stars from the English tourist Board, meaning it is a guest house or B&B rather than a hotel.
The staff, whilst friendly, were all foreign and struggled to understand questions. For example, when I asked for fried bread with breakfast, there was a puzzled look and then 'Yes, toast'

Woudln't recommend staying here unless you're on a tight budget - stayed on the top floor in a small room which didn't have room to swing a cat - there's plenty of better hotels on the same street - try those first!

Very handy for Euston Station but in a fairly traffic free square. Friendly staff and a good, full English breakfast in the morning. The third time I've stayed there. Room was fine I had two double beds, though only needed a single. TV and kettle in room, shower in en-suite. Will stay again.

Our bathroom floor was wet because of a leak from behind the toilet. There was a towel tucked behind the toilet, so they were aware of it. In the morning hot water stopped completely for half an hour. Simon , the proprietor knocked off 25 off the bill and told us if we come again we will be given a better room. His attitude was very positive.

We stayed in room 10. The window wouldn't close, it rattled all nights and was very draughty. The room was shabby with very old furniture, the wardrobe door wouldn't close properly. The sheets were clean but the bed bases were badly stained. The shower was no more than a trickle. The door rattled all night until we pushed a towel under it to stop the noise. The staircase up to the room was very steep and in the evening there was a smell of sewage! The staff were pleasant and helpful and the hotel is centrally situated.

The hotel has no lift which is not adertised. My room was on the 3rd floor which was accessable only by a final narrow, steep and twisting staircase unsuitable for those carrying large or heavy luggage. The staircase is also not suitable for the old and infirm. Given nature of the final staircase, it would have been good to have been offered help with my luggage but help was not offered. The wardobe in my room was unstable and the dressing table had a cupboard door which kept openning on which I struck my knee. The bed was comfortable and both the room and en-suite shower room was clean. I did not breakfast at the hotel.
