I found the hotel to be in a convenient and pleasant location. My room overlooked the tennis courts and also looked onto trees. The room was fairly basic but comfortable, clean and quiet. The hotel generally could benefit from some redecoration and updating but served the purpose. The only really disappointing aspect was the breakfast which was inedible, other than the toast.

Been a while since I stayed in London and am amazed how much hotel tarrifs have gone up for a midweek stay. This is best value I could find. The location is great, short walk to Euston/St Pancras and the city centre. The hotel is old-fashioned looking, and pretty basic but is currently being redecorated. My room was clean, fresh, comfy and the fixtures and fittings were in good order. Hotel is on a nice crescent on a quiet side street away from the traffic yet just a short walk from Euston. Reception was polite and quickly fixed a problem with closing the old sash windows. Breakfast was tasty, and the staff were cheerful and efficient.

The room was clean, and parts of it had been recently updated but other parts ie: the bathroom were in need of updating as the floor tiles were very old and grubby. It was comfy and a good size, and perfect for one night.

Lovely large, clean room with modern bathroom. Staff helpful and friendly but at breakfast we felt rushed as the waitress brought our cooked food whilst we were still eating our cereal.

Good value for money in a quiet area yet incredibly close to Euston. Very friendly helpful staff. Would stay there again. The room had some signs of aging and it was a little small (single) but it was very clean with a comfortable bed and a working hot shower :) It has WiFi too, just ask for pwd at reception.

Helpful staff (Simon), excellent value for money. Sits in a beautiful terrace, which was a bonus. I'll be coming back. No brown toast made me smile, and could have done with a newspaper to read at breakfast, but now I'm nitpicking.

Room was fine until the builders started stripping the walls and ripping out skirting boards on the stairs and hall leading to my room. But the second day was a serious health & safety hazard! The entire hall was engulfed in shrouds of two-hundred-year-old dust because builders were pulling down ceilings. After complaining, they put dirty rags under my door to stop any more dust entering my room. After my requests for the building work to be stopped, I was offered a different room (this tells me the management were aware of the debacle and willing for it to continue while I was in the room) but I declined and later booked into the Harlington a couple of doors down the road. I was refunded the last of the three nights I had prepaid after declining the manager's offer to have one free night if I decided to stay. After comparing with other hotels in the area it's my belief I was overcharged at £95 per night for a twin/double - even without the dust. I will never use laterooms.com again because the Waverley House in Russel Square I booked into with this website was also in the middle of refurbishing their first and second floors. But at least they were self-respecting enough to ask me if I wanted to change my room before the workmen arrived. I tend not to bother with these reviews because of their subjectivity, but I felt something needed saying about the Mentone because the hotel is a serious threat to people's health and safety. And the manager has quite an intimidating East End thug style of dealing with customers.I really wanted to report this hotel and the manager to the relevant authorities, but I had pressing business matters to deal with. I hope someone else takes the initiative.

Excellent location and good vaue for money. Generally pleasently surprised by the standard of the accommodation. Main complaint that the room was freezing cold from draft out of the window which made it difficult to get to sleep. Also was unlucky to have a group of young lads come back to their room at 2pm who were drunk and noisy; this was infurating as I was in london to speak at a conference the next day and would have appreciated a good nights sleep. Not sure the staff could have done anything and reception is not maned after 11pm. Besides that, a nice hotel.

I arrived very late but all was taken care of; Brian (the owner I think) gave me very clear directions and was very helpful re my late arrival. The room and bathroom were clean and neatly presented. It was very comfortable. It was a little noisy due to the traffic (take ear plugs) but you are after all in central London.

We wanted a nice and cheap hotel for a night out in London, and that's what we found! I have to say that, having stayed in some horrific hotels in London for similar money, this one was a great surprise. We found a special discount through Laterooms.com for £65 a night including breakfast, a deal we think was very good value for money. We were given the double room in the top floor, which had been recently redecorated. Dont judge it by its interior, wait until you see the room and you will be surprised. Would definitely recommend it.

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Beakfast good. Room was clean, and not smelly. Rooms just mediocre, you get what you pay for. Short walk from two tube stations.Walls are very thin and can hear anything and everything around. Outside a liitle noisy at times. Problems with heat one night, can't make calls from the hotel room, problems with WiFi connection.

The room was very clean and the bed...
The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable, it was just a bit tatty round the edges (e.g. sockets hanging off wall). The TV was only 5 channels and very poor signal quality. Useful free wi-fi, though with variable signal. My room was in the basement and a bit noisy early in the morning, perhaps it was next to the staff quarters? The staff were all very courteous and Brian was especially helpful with his local knowldege of bars and restaurants. The big let down was the breakfast. I had notified them of my strict vegetarian requirements via website but they were unaware; unlike me, take the advice of others and phone to check - I think most of the staff are eastern European so conversations were brief. Even by the second day they hadn't catered for me. The 'full English' consisted of a sausage, bacon rasher and an egg. This may sound ok for carnivores, unless you're Jewish or Moslem, but the plates were tiny, almost child size. For me, there should have been beans, mushrooms, hash browns etc but the answer was 'noh'. There was tinned fruit and cereal of course (but no soya milk) and the ubiquitous toast. There was a plentiful supply of the tasteless, long-life, white sliced variety, except on one morning when I returned a slice that had green pin mould on it. The option of brown would be an improvement, but again the answer was 'noh'. The same was true of marmite, however, they had lots of marmalade and jams. I wouldn't mind staying there again if I couldn't find anywhere else - there were others offering the same facilities cheaper round the corner, whom I would try first (Note: Mentone charge even more if you go direct).

This was straightforward room. The general decor is shabby but appeared basically clean. Considering I paid £55 for central London it was great value for money. The shower was hot and the bed comfortable. If the hotel just made some basic changes (get rid of old quilts and change the carpet) this would be a nice cheap hotel.

Booked a single room through laterooms, although was put in larger room on arrival. Had a room in the basement which was fairly noisy - laminate flooring on stairs and very poor sound proofing - I could hear people in the room next door as well as above me. Room was clean enough although bedding was worn (and indeed torn!). Bed not massively comfy, although there were 3 to choose from! Wifi was a bonus (bit flakey but worked). Overall, fairly basic but decent hotel. Wouldn't stay again due to the noise.

Basically you get what you pay for. Cheap price a basic tiny room no bigger than a cupboard. Don't bank on a good night's sleep as the traffic and noise from the street keeps you up all night and wakes you up really early. The food is okay but the receptionist is rude and the waitressess keep you waiting to take your order, as they like to finish off their conversation in the kitchen first between themselves regarding their personal life and gossip.

The Mentone is everything you can expect from any sub £100 hotel in London. The rooms were clean & appear to have been recently refurbished. The showers won't exactly wake you up in the morning as they are a little limp, but the continental & cooked breakfast served by freindly staff should sort that out! All in all quite happy with the hotel, this is the third time I've stayed on the Crescent, easily one of the quietest places in this area of London. If you need to be close to Kings Cross or St Pancras International then this is ideal being only a 5 minute walk away. A 10 minute walk in the other direction will get you into the West End, which means you could avoid the tube completely! Would recommend this over any £200+ hotel, it's still just a bed in a room, & after all how much sleep do you need in London?

Carpet being laid when I arrived. No lift and my room on second floor. Reception totally disinterested in the fact that the way was blocked. The carpetfitters carried my case up for me and were very helpful and friendly, more than could be said for the lady on reception when I checked in. Room very tiny but clean and as I just needed a place to sleep for the night it suited my purpose. No place to hang up a towel or dressing gown in the bathroom (also very tiny). At breakfast waitress asked abruptly If I was on my own - this because I had sat at a table for four. She did not seem to like this but as the other tables were covered in dirty crockery I had no choice. Hotel was chosen because of location and I knew the area well, but won't bother staying again. Carpet fitters helped me when I left as well which is more than staff did. they need to sharpen up on their people skills.

The hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. The lady looking after the breakfast room was very fast and efficient. The room I got the keys to was undergoing repairs when I wanted to move in, but that was just a minor issue. They were carried out fast and professionally (a door handle needed replacing). The hotel seems to be in a state of being refurbished, so frayed carpets and flaking paint compete with fresh paint and wallpaper. The bed had a good matress, but the headboard was in need of tightening some screws. I didn't use the shower since it might have flooded the bathroom, but else the bathroom was fine. It wasn't too noisy and I had a good night's sleep. But don't expect too much (which I didn't for the price). The hotel offers more commodities than I used. There is a possibility to iron your clothes in the lounge.

Although in a good location, the hotel was very run down and 'tatty' - peeling paint and threadbare carpets etc. Our room was at the very top of the hotel and was only accessed by a tiny, very winding staircase. The bed could not be described as a double bed and, although clean, was not comfortable at all! The dining room was small, the hot food arrived while we were eating our cereal...and then wasn't hot when we finally got to it. We will not be using the Mentone again.

Good quality if straightforward room for the money in this quiet and central location. But very disappointed to discover there is no hot breakfast for vegetarians (despite my using the special diet notification on lateroom.com -- unless you want a fried egg and a tinned tomato which isn't what I expect from a 3* hotel . The promised alternative of croissants turned out to be a packet of rather plastic tasting brioche. Fire escapes not too convincing or clearly marked - somewhat alarming on the top floor of a narrow stair.

The room (no. 27) was ok, a bit tiny but suitable for a city stay, however, the bathroom left a number of things to be desired: the taps were not mounted properly, the shower only had semi warm water and the water pressure was not existent, hence to take a proper shower wasn't really possible. The size of the bathroom also wasn't quite comfortable
