Poor value

The booking system is terrible, and when I wanted to change things, three successive emails to the company were completely ignored. There is a very limited desk service. The apartment itself was clean and tidy, although there was a lot of rubbish in the common hallways. The double bed was small and hard.

Great accommodation shame about the noise

Great location, lovely accommodation but you should note that reception is not really set up as a hotel and you have to leave a swipe of your card and sign forms for damages. The tube noise is also very intrusive if you go to bed early.

These flats are within walking distance of the City of London and provide a good base. With the kitchen facilities it is possible to prepare a meal, preferable to going out to eat each night. The beds are comfortable and the flats are kept to a good standard of cleanliness

Great City loaction near Mansion House.

Be aware that they take a £200 deposit, which will be refunded 5-10 days later.

Cheap for what you get.

Wow.
for the price i paid £105 per night, this room was more than enough.
0.6 mile walk from liverpool street station.
1.6 mile walk from the Lycium which we went to see the lion king.
Unfortunately all but the central line were working but no matter as Bank station is literally up the road, but if the circle line was working we would have practicall just stepped out the door and we were a stones throw away from cannon street station.
The only negative i found was they took a £200 deposit!! and it was a 5 day wait to return the deposit!
The room was excellent, we went for the bedroom and lounge/kitchen option and we were given a balcony room. only a view of an office and below us, dominos pizza (which came in handy for late night food!) (however the hotel does do food)
The woman on reception didnt seem to know what she was doing. firstly she said we were on room 3...we were room 4. second, she photocopied my I.D then forgot to return the I.D. she also forgot to show and let me sign the terms and conditions. but this is nothing more than a hiccup, perhaps she was new so i gave the benefit of the doubt.
I reccomend this hotel. its so incredibly close to everything and the rooms really do look like the photos! perhaps even nicer.

Due to late booking and I suspect London RIots I got the room very cheeply,
Room was clean, airy and well appointed, Staff were friendly and helpful and I have no complaints.
I woud however been unhappy had I paid full price as there were a few small items that showed the room was tired (some lifting of floor panels, cracked Tiles in Bathroom and a slight damage on kitchin worktop but this did not spoil my stay here.

That was fine though as we were planning on spending the days exploring london- so this shouldnt really matter. On arrival we were greeted with an upgrade which was great news- good customer service and baggage can be left after check out the next day whilst you go off exploring! Great potential but not quite there....

I stayed in a studio apartment which was sufficiently spacious and clean. Check in process was fine and the location good for my purposes. Most disappointed at the technology aspects - no wireless high speed internet (a real disadvantage when travelling for business) and also a phone black-spot - I had to be on the balcony to get sufficient signal. Also room looks straight across into an office block - and I mean straight across!! I really want to like this place but at the rates they are charging they need to improve the technology dramatically. I hope they do as I would like to stay again.

Apartment was clean and modern but we would possibly not stay there again for a number of reasons; no wi-fi only cable connection (even though there was a wireless network available which, when I called for the password, the reception staff knew nothing about), very unreliable hot water which frequently ran cold, no TV in bedroom, the electric sockets kept cutting out in the entire apartment every time we plugged the iron in (!) and we were required to sumbit our debit card upon arrival for a £200 pre-authorisation deposit which was ridiculously excessive for one nights accomodation.

MARLIN RIP OFF

Very dissappointed with the customer service from this chain of hotel/apartment group, i had a confirmation email from the company telling me everything i needed to know EXCEPT THE MASSIVE £200 BLOCK THEY PUT ON YOUR DEBIT/CREDIT CARD WHEN YOU GET THERE!!! i was not happy at this and im sure many others won't be or others who have stayed, this was not in the t&c's when i checked on laterooms nor on their t&c's when i signed for my room when i got there just the consierge who told me about it, i understood a verification of my debit / credit card or even £50 deposit but £200 is a joke, that was spending money for me and my girlfriend and we wernt too impressed. consierge was a joke too, didnt seem to know anything about local attractions or the best way to get there plus never there half the time, walls very thin on the rooms you could hear people in rooms next door easily plus we were on the 4th floor and could still hear the underground that rumbles underneath!! was ok for the weekend as it was cheap but if your staying in the midweek i would AVOID!!! ive stayed at the hilton in london before and i wished i would of stayed there again. Shame these apartments talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk!!

But wow..... aren't underground trains noisy.....? and frequent? Don't book this hotel if you are a light sleeper, go to one of the other Marlin apartments nearby.

Excellent value

As long as you don't mind being 'out of the way' in The City, it's amazing value. Great accommodation. My only complaints would be 1) there's only one lift for 80+ apartments, so if your on the upper floors, it can be a long wait. I was also bemused by the scalding towel rail which can't be turned down or off. It turned the bathroom into a permanent sauna. It was also positioned right next to the toilet, which made bumping it with an exposed leg whilst 'sitting down' hard to avoid. Ouch!

Room had everyhting you could want, washing machine, dish washer, tv etc. Ideal for longer stays.

The room was very close to mansion underground so that was good and a easy walk to covent garden about 15 mins. The room was a little noisy due to the underground.
The late check in and early check out was off putting. Ideal if in a group but probably prefer hotel if just a couple. Be aware a deposit of £200 is taken to secure room returned a few days later.

Marlin Apartment - St.Pauls: Top Marks!

We stayed at the Marlin Apartment - St.Pauls on New Years eve and were really impressed with our 1 bed apartment , which cost us £150 (which for staying over the festive period we thought was very reasonable). Our apartment was on the 5th floor, it was modern, spacious, warm, clean and had quality furnishings throughout. On arrival we foundthe renowned 'Welcome pack' which was very straight forward and simple, it covered everything you needed to know and i would go as far to say in parts useful! i.e: about heating etc - it even had menu's which you could order from for those who weren't interested in cooking whilst on vacation. The kitchenette had everything you would need for your stay; Washing Machine, Dish Washer, Utensils etc - it had been kitted out with all the mod cons and there was nothing that was missing - everything had been thought of even down to the dishwasher tablets!. The Lounge area was very spacious and had a nice 3 piece sofa, Chaise, dining table, Television, and DVD player again everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The bedroom was extremely spacious - the same size as the lounge area and the bed had clean bedding and was comfortable. The bathroom was adequate, it was a fair size, we had a bath with an overhead shower, it was clean, we had fresh towels, and in full working order, if i had to be critical - i would say this was not as impressive as the rest of the apartment and the shower could of been of a better quality.
The hotel was in a good location, it was situated very close to the train station, and a short walk to Tesco express if you wanted to buy in the essentials, and in walking distance to key attractions. Having read previous reviews before staying i was concerned as people had said you could hear the underground - i have to be honest we could hear a murmur of sound but nothing that bothered us, or would stop us staying at the apartment again in the future. The staff who booked us in were very friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic stay and overall couldn't fault the hotel and would recommend it to anyone reading this or thinking of staying - Im sure you wouldnt be disappointed!

Great location but.. the plumbing!

Pluses - great location - steps from Mansion House tube station. Mainly offices nearby hence quiet at weekends. Apartment was spotlessly clean, check in was quick and painless.
However, as several reviewers on this and other sites have noted the plumbing leaves a lot to be desired. Be warned especially if travelling as a couple because it is not in any way conducive to romance :-)
However for price, location, cleanliness and safety would stay here again and recommend also

Great location for central London business

Central to most city business addresses - multiple tube or walking options and DLR for Canary wharf very close too. Pretty dead part of town on weekends though. Nothing is open in that part of town so ideal for business traveller during week.
Apartments are clean, nicely decorated and well equipped. Lift didn't work properly whole time I was there though. When I arrived the hot water didn't work and had to change apartments but this was done swiftly with apologies. I will definitely be staying there again.

Marlin Apartments St Pauls...Great but underground noise a massive downfall...

When we arrived there wasnt any staff on the reception desk so we had to wait around until someone came. It wasnt long but we didnt know how long it would be as there was just a sign up saying that they were away at the moment so this could have been for any length of time.
The apartment its self was lovely & modern, just as it was on the photographs, clean also. It was a good size too.
A massive downfall was the noise from the underground. We stayed on the first floor and you could constantly hear the rumbling noise of each train passing which was literally every couple of minutes, if that. Bearing in mind that the trains dont stop until way gone 11pm and start again around 6.30am, it started to get a little bit annoying. Its not ridiculously loud but enough to definitely comment on. Whether it wouldnt be as bad on a higher floor, i dont know. It was fine for one night as we werent in it much anyway with being out around London all day.
Id recommend it based on the standard of the apartment, but id definitely ask to be on a higher floor due to the underground noise.

Room was ideal for what we wanted . Its location was great. The quality was great. The exception was that there was a water leak that came through the floor of the kitchen and bathroom . It was clear from the swollen skirting boards that this had been the case for a while . We pointed it out and my feeliong was that this was known . We asked to move but were not able to straight away so ended up not doing so . Not sure if it should be a no smoking building or not , but people were smoking in it . You could smell it especially in reception .

Nice apartment, well located, let down by small failings

The Marlin apartments are very well situated by Mansion House tube, so ideal for city workers. The apartment itself was very nice and very clean.
Ealry check-in had been presented as a possible option, but upon arrival I was informed that this would cost £60 extra, as did the late check-out. The corridors had a slightly odd smell about them and the lift call button did not work on the ground floor, meaning a trip up to the first floor via the stairs every time we entered. The tube runs right underneath the apartments; this was not an issue for us as we were on the 6th floor, but lower floors must surely feel this.
Overall I would probably use Marlin again for a longer term stay, but for a couple of nights will opt for a nearby hotel.
