Laterooms or Malmaison make no reference to the fact that Malmaison require a pre authorisation on your card of £200, even though the room rate was £150 - they say no money is taken however, if the money isn't there, it will decline. Luckily I had the amount in cash and was able to leave a deposit this way. I understand why they feel the need to do this but I feel this could have been a little less embarrassing if I had been made aware.
Summary
Although the hallways were darkened and this Hotel is near the largest graveyard in London [due to the Black death/plague] when entering the room I found light and calmness. All the things we needed were there, hidden away from view in the wardrobe. It felt very quiet and cosy in the evening. The view from the window wasn't inviting but the square where we were situated was near Inspector Clouseau apartment! Fifties block a few doors up!
We ate in- but the restarant didn;t live up to my expectaions although the service was excellent. Lastly I thought the breakfast was rather expensive at around £15.
We stayed at hotel as next door to where son's graduation was taking place. We have stayed before.
The hotel has a lovely quiet setting but is next door to bustle of Smithfield and close to a variety of excellent restaurants. Once you get used to the dark in public places it is fine. Lifts are swift and efficient. Our room was small but that's normal. The bed was very comfortable, lots of pillows without having to dig in cupboards for them. Tea and coffee well provided for and the option of delivered fresh milk for morning coffee. We did not eat breakfast as had to be off early and next day very full from champagne and a good evening meal. We had breakfast on a previous occasion and it was good. Not eating was practicalities rather than comment on Malmaison.
Our only disappointment was that we tried to eat in hotel restaurant but it was full, it would have been helpful if reception staff had asked on check in if we wanted to eat so we could have tried then to book. As it happens we went to a good Italian around the corner. The barman was very helpful and suggested some options when we were turned awy from restaurant.
The hotel is well located, clean and very good design of facilities and rooms. Negaitve is certainly that we had a room that faced to the inside of the building, so no real daylight. Room size was normal london, so not overly large but okay and bothroom size was also okay
Summary
Having stayed recently at Oxford MalMaison my expectations were too high. But infact this is a perfectly adequate London Hotel. This website had implied I was booking a £645 room for £198 but in fact my room had a rack rate of just £245. None of this should have been a surprise and I soon got over my dissapointment.
In most respects this is a typical MalMaison, eg the usual very dark colours and overpowering shower gel. Probably not worth mentioning on this website but I do wonder if it isn't time that the MM brand was updated?
We loved the room and the location was excellent for our purposes.
I would have liked to know that we should have printed off a voucher which could have saved a great deal on the food.
I would rather pay more to have the accommodation include breakfast.
Generally very pleasant
The hotel is well located and most of the staff at the reception is lovely (especially the girls working there) and very helpful.
I managed to get a deal for a superior room and the room was indeed spacious and nice. Only comments I have is how hard the bed was and the breakfast which I think is really overpriced.
I would happily stay there again if I get a deal but not for the full price.
I booked a king size room. The room was a good news overlooking the square; this is the problem. The room was 108 and was directly above the main entrance. London is noisy which I accept, however the street next door seemed to be very noisy which was compounded with a12:30 delivery of milk to the hotel, followed by a 7:00am delivery. Needless to say we got limited sleep. I gave the receptionist feedback and I received a £30 discount. Nice hotel and room make sure you ask for a room at the back!!
Summary
Excellent location
Nice part of London - really interesting
Excellent location for a walk about in the morning sunshine - lovely buildings
Good location for restaurants and getting out and about in the City
The Hotel was clean, the staff were really friendly and helpful. We went to see a show in the heart of the west end, and the location was perfect, just far enough away to ensure peace and quiet, yet close enough to ensure the travelling wasn't a drag. I would definatley use this hotel again.
Summary
We booked last minute for a wedding nearby. our room was clean and tidy, if a little 'tired' in the looks department. hotel staff nice and friendly but it looks like a nightclub inside and seems to be aimed at men trying to impress rather than the quiet stay type. no complaints other than that though... great location and good night's sleep. smith's of smithfield around the corner for an amazing meal

Summary
In a lovely area with plenty of places to eat out in the day or evening- not quite soho or one of the vibrant tourist areas, but quite close to london bridge and borough market. Was nice for a romantic stay. Nice friendly staff, and beautiful interior. Would definately stay again.
Summary
Awesome bar and restaurant-both very cool places to chill out in.
If I hadn't got the cheap laterooms deal for £99 for the night I'd have been really unhappy about the standard of the matresses in the bed. The room itself was fine, but two rock hard single mattresses pushed together us not what I expect from a £225 room. Very uncomfortable sleep, but still probably worth the discounted rate as the rest of the hotel is so cool..
This is delightful.
The hotel is set in a converted mansion block next to Smithfield meat market. We arrived late in the pouring rain and were immediately welcomed, allowed to leave our luggage until the room was ready, whilst we got taxi to our mid-day appointment.
On our return our room was ready and the luggage had been put in there for us. The room was warm and welcoming with lovely touches such as full sized luxury toileteries which invited you to "take me home" (I checked, they are yours once you leave) good reading lights, lots of sqaushy cusions and thick fluffy towels. The decor was somewhat dark and moody, romantic in fact.
The lobby has huge oversized red , prurple and black arm chairs and black velvet fringed "kissing seats" with champagne coolers in between them, very decadant! A slightly dubious painting of an encounter between a man and a scantily clad girl on the wall suggests that tis hotel may be designed as a trytsing place, though the guests all appear totally respectable.
The bar is in the basement but very cosy and serving top class bar snacks; some a little different to the ususual. I would like to try out the brasserrie one day as from what I saw it appears excellent.
A real find and very different!

Be careful if you cannot sleep on extra hard beds. These seem a speciality of this hotel and although they offer "comforters " (some of which needed cleaning) to place on top of the mattress these do not really work (even piled high!). Apparently extra hard mattresses are standard and most of their guests prefere them. This I find hard to believe!
On the positive side when all this was politely pointed out to the manager he was concerned and a 50% rebate was generously offered.
Apart from this an excellent hotel.
