Hotel was excellent value, in a quiet square but near to many fashionable restaurants.
The staff were efficient, the room was very comfortable, room service was of an excellent standard and reasonably priced.
Would love to stay there again when in London.

I booked through late rooms and got a 3 night stay for the cost of 2 although the hotel initially had problems finding my reservation. Nice spacious room but aircon didn't work and didn't like to leave the window open as ground floor location. Also room only had a shower, no bath. Food excellent but expensive and not enough selection. Would stay again/recommend

Room and Hotel Vg. Visiting Barbican so great location. Good part of town although some night noise from deliveries to market. Did not eat at Hotel but went to Fox & Anchor (Mal-run) for supper and John Torode's SOS opposite market for great breakfast (from 7am and cheaper than hotel!).

My room was excellent, spacious and very comfortable.
Breakfast and dinner are expensive, and I think a little over-priced.
Wine by the glass is very expensive as well.
Apart from the cost of eating and drinking at the hotel, I think it is excellent value, and I would stay again.

Quoted 330 on late rooms for 3 nights as 3rd night was free. Good value until we came to check out & they added vat. When queried they insisted this was 'normal at this hotel'...
I didn't have the paperwork to check the small print but when I got back laterooms confirmation does say prices are per room and inclusive of all local taxes.
This is 'sharp practice' at best. 3 days later an email to Malmaison remains unanswered...

Great hotel, convenient and interesting location, very friendly staff and good service. My room was small but big enough for my requirements. The room looked a little tired around the edges: scuffed chair; marks on the wall; scratched desk; and, most disappointingly, the bedspread was dirty and so were the curtains. The room generally had been cleaned very well (including the bathroom) but the items which stay in the room from guest to guest had clearly not been laundered in a long time. The stains, albeit small, were easily visible. I thought this was rather disappointing for a c.200 per night hotel.
I'm not sure why hotels bother with those decorated throws or bedspreads at the end of the bed. The first thing I do is remove them because I know they aren't changed between guests.

Like most Malmaison hotels, this hotel will be very gloomy for many. As with a lot of contemporary hotels the lighting is very low - the bar and restaurant are in the basement. Great for assignations, but probably a bit trying for business travellers. However, the staff are excellent, the beds are comfy and the showers are terrific - the most important criteria for any hotel. And it's always nice to stay in an interesting building (Victorian Nurse's home) that has been converted sympathetically.

Malmaison is a small chain of stylish hotels and restaurants. I have stayed in Manchester (business trip alone) & London (fun trip with partner). Malmaison shares an owner with Hotel du Vin (another small chain). They also share the following: great rooms, restaurant and wine list. Malmaison also boasts some of the smallest gyms and most stylish bars.

Absolutely lovely boutique hotel. Great decor and good size room, very modern, nice bathroom, everything was clean, big comfy bed. The staff were helpful, unobtrusive and friendly. Room service was fast and the food was great. Excellent toiletries and room facilities e.g. selection of tea and coffee, hairdryer, minibar. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel and facilities. Lovely atmosphere and good location. Excellent meal and service in the restaurant and bar.
Only grumble is that the hotel charged me for VAT on top of the invoice which should have been included in the price. This was resolved when I returned home and confirmed the booked price with LateRooms and the Hotel. Took a few phonecalls and was a bit of disappointing way to end our stay which we had thoroughly enjoyed. Subsequently read reviews where the same thing had happened to other LateRoom guests

Located in a quiet, unassuming location between Farringdon and Barbican tube stations, it is not the easiest to get to without a cab but apart from that, a highly recommended stay. Go to Smiths for breakfast if you can be bothered getting up - the best in London.

Only two complaints The room was too hot...
Only two complaints: 1. The room was too hot and the air conditioning was ineffective. It would have helped if we could have opened a window but the only window was sealed and impossible to open. This left both my partner and me feeling stuffy and a little claustrophobic. To be fair, however, the hotel staff did offer to move us if things did not improve after our initial arrival in the room but it was on our final night that we found the warmth umbearable and we weren't going to pack our bags in the middle of the night! The lesson to be learnt is to take up there offer straight away and not chance anything!
2. Most dishes on the night service menu were unavailable. We had to make do with quite average toasted cheese muffins. Incidently, it is quite surprising how difficult it is to get decent food in London after 11pm. On a one hour walk from the Emirates stadium to the hotel we did not pass one place still serving food.
All in all however, we are fans of Malmaison and HDV and we probably wouldn't stay anywhere else if we can help it!

Excellent Hotel - but the room was very small for the money, and the cost of a breakfast was very high even for London. Staff very friendly and efficient.

For a 3 star Malmaison - this hotel is ideal; it has lush decor, sultry lighting, and top value for money. The rooms were not decorated or furnished as well as Oxford or Reading locations or even the same standard as the reception /lobby area but after all, it is a 3Star. Location was slightly out of the centre and meant lots of cab fares, but well worth the stay. Highly recommend the champagne bar and would defo go back!! All in all a pleasant stay.

I was quoted a total price of 150 by late rooms - the hotel said that I would have to pay VAT on top of this. I looked through the paperwork provided by Late rooms but could find no mention of this. When I went to check out I was only charged 150. Perhaps it could be made clear to hotels that they cannot try and make additional charges - or if indeed you do have to pay VAT on top of the late room price that it is indicated clearly.

The hotel is in a quiet square but convenient for the City, all was absolutely fine (as long as you're OK with very firm mattresses!). Dinner, however, not good. We were being lazy as we know plenty of good restaurants around the area and just thought it easier to eat in and menu looked promising. Steak, kidney and oyster pudding dried out, vegetables priced as extras, melon sorbet tasted of Pernod only. And jerusalem artichoke with quails eggs with no quails eggs. We sent it back and it re-emerged with tiny pieces of cut up hen's egg hidden under the salad! Would have been better to admit they didn't have any and take dish off menu, we thought, rather than try it on. Pretentious restaurant with nothing to be pretentious about.

What can you say about Malmaison The London...
What can you say about Malmaison? The London hotel lives up to the standards of the chain nationwide - and compared to other 'boutique' hotels in London, it's excellent value. The rooms are stylish, they have all the trademark touches of the Mal brand and we love it! The massive bed is wonderful, the styling is cool and the environment is relaxing. The area is great too... away from the tourist traps of the west end, the Clerkenwell location is full of great restaurants, bars and plenty of nightlife if that's what you're looking for. It's a short walk to the river and over the bridge to Tate Modern, and also near to the station. Sunday morning was wonderfully quiet, but the local coffee shops were still open for late breakfast. We're Londoners, so the stay was a weekend treat instead of getting a taxi home after a party - but we'd do it again in a shot!

Nice quiet location near all the attractions of Clerkenwell / Farringdon, 10 mins to Hoxton and Shoreditch.
Nice building with typical Malmaison decor i.e. dark and sultry ! All the staff were very helpful and free from attitude.
Room was nice but quite small, no complaints.
Bar was OK but a bit soulless, perhaps we were there a bit early for a Saturday night.
Didn't try any food there so cannot comment, but on the whole a flawless stay, and not too bad value for London.

This hotel, when you weigh all services up against price paid/location/staff was one of the best I have stayed in. The staff were superb, location great, had a vibe about it that you do not get in a lot of other hotels and I have stayed in many - ranging from cheap dosshouses to 5 star operations.
Breakfast was the best I have had in long while.

It a a shame that residents chose to have a party at 5.00am, and the night manager decided that he was too busy to do anything about it. Our nights sleep was ruined. It is fine having Hi - Fi's in rooms but with little sound insulation they should not be used.

Really nice hotel. We had a upgraded room which was spacious and modern. The toilettries in the room were in big bottles which you could take with you. The hotel is in a lovely square with a cobbled street. Parking costs 20 for 24 hrs and there are plenty of parking spaces outside of the hotel. The barbican tube station is 2 minutes walk away and about 4 stops to Leicester Square. There are plenty of places to eat in walking distance from the hotel and some late night bars and clubs. All in all a really nice stay, will definately stay there again on our next visit to London

Malmaison is my new favourite place to stay-...
Malmaison is my new favourite place to stay- it is literally a 2 minute walk from Barbican Underground station, and on a direct bus route to Oxford Street and Waterloo Station. I stayed there last weekend with my best friend and from the moment we checked in we loved the place. It's in beautiful Charterhouse Square, which is lovely and quiet. We had theatre tickets and the location of the hotel was great- a 10 minute, 8 taxi ride away from the West End. Staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was out of this world. Excellent stereo and fast, free internet access and very comfortable firm bed that supported my back really well which was aching from all the sightseeing! The toiletries in the bathroom were lovely and I thought it a nice touch that guests are encouraged to take them home! I cannot recommend this hotel more highly and am already plotting an excuse for another weekend away!

Staff were excellent. My wife took ill and we needed to make some calls to get appropriate medical advice. This was time consuming and the staff were very relaxed about us checking out half an hour late (or at least gave us the impression they were relaxed). it is those kinds of touches that go along way to making you feel welcome in a Hotel. all round it was an excellent hotel in the centre of London; stylish smart and very comfortable.

When i checked out the next day the hotel tried to charge me far in excess of the price agreed with laterooms - so this was disappointing and very embarrasing for my partner and myself. Luckily I had printed the confirmation and after going through all our bags in the middle of reception was able to 'prove' that we had in fact booked the room for a much cheaper rate. Not good!

Great, quiet location in Charterhouse square, despite being 200 yards from Fabric nightclub. Standard room, but large for London hotel. Ultra cool bar, excellent staff. Will eat in Restaurant next time (looked good) Best Malmaison I have stayed in. However at full price it may be business use only, or for the seriously minted!!
