Buckingham Palace is often the first port of call for visiting tourists, and Victoria is where you will find it. Whilst the Queen’s official London residence is undoubtedly beautiful from the outside, there is no need to stop there, as it is possible to take a tour of the Palace’s magnificent interior. The historic Changing of the Guard ceremony also takes place in front of the Palace at 11:30am every other day.
Other sites dotted around the Palace include the Victoria Memorial, a golden statue of Queen Victoria that sits in front of the Palace, staring grandly down The Mall. The Royal Mews also offers you the chance to see the royal horses, carriages and Rolls Royce cars that are used to transport Her Majesty to and from official functions.
Also of interest is ‘Little Ben’, which as the name suggests is simply a smaller version of Big Ben. In spite of the image its name conjures, Little Ben in fact stands at a mighty thirty feet tall. Westminster Cathedral is also very worthy of a visit – look out for the mosaics.
