The main draw of Notting Hill for most people is the famous Portobello Market, one of the largest in Europe. Antique lovers flock here in the hope of unearthing that hidden treasure, whilst elsewhere market traders display stalls groaning under the weight of second hand goods. There is also a large section dedicated to fresh fruit and vegetables.
Many people will have heard of Notting Hill thanks to the Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts romantic comedy of the same name. Fans may wish to take a detour to visit the Travel Bookshop used for several scenes in the film.
Another big draw for Notting Hill is of course the Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place every summer. The strong Caribbean population in the area gives the carnival a unique flavour, so if you are lucky enough to be visiting at the right time then make the most of the opportunity. Did You Know? Celebrity spotters can indulge their curiosity by taking part in a two and a half hour walking tour of Notting Hill’s celebrity hotspots. Do not expect famous faces to be lining the streets in preparation for your arrival, however, the tour mostly consists of places stars are supposed to have frequented.
