a guide to mayfair

about mayfair

As fans of the board game Monopoly will be aware, Mayfair is an expensive place to be. It has acquired a reputation as somewhere a little bit exclusive, but this is not totally true. Whilst these alarmingly steep offerings do exist, there are plenty of things to keep you occupied in Mayfair that will not require you to part with your savings.

That said, it is hard to resist the lure of the designer outlets and the various treats displayed in their windows. The restaurants will have similarly significant financial consequences, but are equally impossible to ignore. Whilst one might expect the atmosphere in Mayfair to be a little formal and elitist, in actual fact the place is fairly relaxed, and despite the array of attractions is one of the quieter shopping areas of London.

If art is your thing, then Mayfair has a lot to hold your attention. The area is home to a host of art galleries, many of which offer free entry. Mayfair is also home to some attractive green spaces, including the expansive and peaceful Grosvenor Square, Berkeley Square and Mount Street Gardens.

Our tip: Take some time to visit the Royal Arcade and enjoy the art and clothes on offer in the fabulous Victorian surroundings.
