Marylebone lies just to the north of Oxford Street, providing a welcome oasis of calm in an otherwise very busy area. If you are looking for a shopping experience that is different from the norm, then Marylebone is the place to go. The standard selection of high street stores is nowhere to be found, instead you can enjoy Marylebone’s impressive array of unique boutique shops, cafes and restaurants.
A particular must-see is the popular Madame Tussaud’s waxwork museum, which houses startlingly accurate wax models of some of the most famous figures in the worlds of sport, television, film and politics. Queues can be quite large, so be sure to get in early.
Should a stroll in the park take your fancy, Regent’s Park offers a pleasant break from the noise and confusion of some of London’s busier areas. Our suggestion is to combine your walk with a spot of lunch; there are many cafes worth a visit, particularly on the south side of the park. The marvellous London Zoo is also nearby, although if you do choose to visit it is probably best to set aside a whole day.
Our tip: If you happen to visit Marylebone on a Sunday, be sure to catch the Marylebone Farmers' Market every Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
From the North: To get into the general area of Marylebone head down the A5 and keep going until you reach Marble Arch, then turn left.
From the East/West: The A40 runs along the top of Marylebone so head along it and turn south when you reach your desired destination.
