West London is home to the incredibly wealthy borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Bordered by Sloane Square and Knightsbridge, there is plenty of opportunity to spend. Located at the centre of it all is Harrods, the world famous department store, well worth a visit if only to gape open-mouthed at the sheer extravagance of it all.
There are also plenty of opportunities to learn about our environment, with the National History Museum, the Science Museum, The National Army Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum all falling within the area. The Saatchi Gallery offers the chance to see high quality, contemporary art absolutely free, and the Grade I Listed Royal Albert Hall is also a sight worth seeing.
If it is green space you want, you can choose from a short walk to Hyde Park, a trip to Green Park or a look round the Physic Garden.
Did You Know? The story of how The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea got its name is an interesting one. ‘The Royal Borough’ was prefixed to ‘Kensington’ at the request of Queen Victoria (who was born in Kensington Palace) shortly after her death in 1901. Chelsea only entered the equation when the two separate boroughs were united in 1965.
