Very friendly staff, basic but very clean with great location, the restuarant only catered for acquired tastes and expensive £4 for a botlle of water, the bar resembled a scene from the Russian Mafia. Overall very good value for money and would use again.

This was quite a surprise as most hotel rooms so cheap are little more than broom cupboards. Location was quiet and pleasant with both tube and shops in walking distance. Room was a good size, clean and fine for an overnight business stay. Not really sure why there were a bunch of German language channels on the TV and why the full range of DTV channels can't be available. The room was quite warm when I arrived but I opened the windows and soon dealt with that. May be a different matter in summer as I do not think the Air con is up to much. En-suite bathroom very clean. Breakfast was basic but fine for the purpose. Customer service was slow but did not impact on my stay. Definite recommend for business overnight stays.

Worth what I paid from Laterooms (55 pounds) but not their standard rate of 120 pounds. very old fashioned and faded decor, and the shower is weak. The location is great, very central and great for tube and bus.

Excellent value for central london. Fairly basic, but good size room with everything you need for a night away from home. Comfortable bed. Very quiet - pleasant location and easy walk to tube.

I needed a basic room for one night that was cheap, and that is what I got. Plenty of room, the fridge in the room was a bonus. The one down side is part of one of the curtains had come off the rail. Though I pointed this out to the desk, nothing got done. I guess there was no staff at that time of night to do it - they would have needed a long ladder! It was not a major inconvenience but accounts for the reduced score in customer service.Breakfast was basic cereals, bread and yogurt - but that is all I wanted - so fine.Street outside was quiet (unlike hotels on sussex gardens!)I guess the prices are higher in summer - but I would be very happy to go back. Great locations near tube

Located in a quiet square just off Lancaster...
Located in a quiet square just off Lancaster Gate, the Guards Hotel is a pretty basic yet functional affair, but where else do you get to spend £35 a night for a double in such a central location without renting the room by the hour? The decor and furnishings of the guest rooms here do have a slightly antiquated look about them, however the one to which I was assigned was spacious enough, having a separate bath and shower rooms, and two large sash windows that you could open, overlooking the charming square outside. Everything in the room was very clean and the heating was nice and warm, with large adjustable radiators piping hot. I know another reviewer said there were not too many places to eat in the evening around here, well that is nonsense as there are a wide range of places within 5 or 10 minutes walking distance. I enjoyed a very comfortable nights sleep and was awoken by a very prompt pre-arranged alarm call. Continental breakfast was included in the price, but I was feeling extravagant so opted to pay an extra £3.99 for a full English. This was made with Marks & Spencers ingredients and was not too bad at all, again you ask yourself where else do you get to pay £4 for breakfast in that part of London. The hotel breakfast room followed an Eastern European theme, which was an unusual touch, and all the staff I dealt with were courteous, respectful and helpful. If you're expecting the Ritz at this price point you're going to be sadly disappointed, but for what I paid this certainly was no Fawlty Towers either. Recommended.

Stayed for one night with a business colleague. Got two double room for £35 each which for London was great value. Location is about a 5 minute walk from Lancaster Gate tube station. Very quiet area. My hotel room was fine, it actually was very large, had 2 double beds and a fold up bed so I guess I got a family room instead of a double. Plenty of towels and hot water. My colleague though has a room that had noise filtering through all night. He thought it was some kind of boiler or something, and was awake from 2am until the morning. I would stay again but I am sure he would have an opposite view!So perhaps take a chance on this hotel but be wary of what room you might get!

I've stayed at this hotel many many times...
I've stayed at this hotel many many times the past 1 1/2 years. Hamid Ibrahim is always very good at his job, and the young boy at the adjacent desk has improved his skills and language over time. It is the evening & night shift employee who I am completely unimpressed with. I think he is from Kazakstan or a country thereabouts; I know it's a former Soviet Union state. He does not put the customer first at all, and seems really put out, if he has to do something (that he should automatically do); example; he didn't have change of £7 from my £40 when the room cost £33; not a big deal, but he put all the blame on me. It's not my problem, and he should be on top of things. He is not a bright person at all, and really says some very offensive things and makes fun of the customer (this usually comes from people are not bright). Also the staff had told me the checkout time is 12 noon with a one hour grace period, but then I was told off by an Indian male employee there who told me it's never been 12 but 11. I usually check out around 12 if I don't have an appointment to go to earlier, but sometimes later. I have gone over the time a couple of times, but he said this claiming the checkout was 11. Late rooms says it's 12 noon. Which is it? 11 or 12. I don't take breakfast much there, and if I do I come down about 10 minutes before, grab a little tray of cereal and juice and take it upstairs; there seems to be a sigh of annoyance when I come down at this time, as though it's a problem for them, but I don't sit there. Most hotels who say they finish at 9, 10, 11, mean the last seating is at that time. Other customers have arrived later and passed me as I've gone out the door with my tray and no one sighs about them. The maids can be a bit gossipy about customers, very hurtful and rude the other day, actually, outside my room but nice to my face. Split personality. They'll say, oh it's only £30! I don't care if it's £3000 or £3, I'm a guest there. Gone are the days when staff were fired for being rude to guests and about guests?????? Some of these staff obviously don't want to be there, and hey, I can't get any work right now, I'll take the evening or night shift job, if that's the case SERIOUSLY. I'd do a heck of a lot better job! Hamid Ibrahim, like I said though, is always charming. I like this hotel. I like the location. I like the area. I just wish the shenanigans of some of the hotel staff would cease. If they're not happy, LEAVE! There's plenty of people who need a job, short or long-term. RE: the rooms and refurbishment. Sometimes the maids' hair is on the sheet or pillows; I'm surprised by this. Also, I've said for a long time, the quilts and blankets need to be replaced with duvet. Duvets are a lot more hygienic. I never feel quite comfortable in the bed because of this. The rooms are tired, yes, but it's the quilts and blankets that need to go first and soon.

Sir/Madam,We were very pleased with out recent stay in the London Guards Hotel. The room that we were allocated was very well appointed, clean and surprisingly spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel itself, although close to the centre of London, was in a small side road and surprisingly quiet at night. We would certainly use it again if we found ourselves returning for a break in LondonDennis AdamsSandown,Isle of Wight

Our daughter booked this for my husband and I and originally booked for two nights but after one night we decided it was so lovely that we would stay for an extra night, so we stayed for three nights in total, mid-week. We were on holiday from South Africa and wanted some time in central London. Very convenient for the tube, bus and Hyde Park. The hotel is extremely clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. This is the perfect hotel for exploring London and at an excellent rate. It is in a lovely quiet road but near enough to everything. We will definitely visit again. Mr and Mrs Blakey

The staff were helpful and accommodating, our rooms clean and simply but adequately furnished. The Continental breakfast was ample with choice of fruit, rolls, cereals, toast etc and tea and coffee served by a smiling lady at the table. The hotel is situated in a quiet terrace off the main road so we were able to sleep well without the usual city noise and yet be close to underground, buses and taxies, not to mention a great little Italian restaurant. All our party were delighted with our choice of hotel for an overnight stay in London (straight across Hyde Park to the Royal Albert Hall where we were going for a concert) and have no hesitation in voting it excellent value for money.

For the price I paid this hotel was in an excellent location. However I do feel that as I got it at a cheap rate I was given one of the worst rooms. The twin beds were pushed together as there wasn't room for otherwise ( I was with my 18yr old son) and the bathroom needed a serious revamp. Breakfast wasn't much to speak of. However, the staff were lovely and the fact that I only paid £154 for 2 nights instead of £138 for 1 night means that I was pleased overall.

Nice guy in reception no problems booking in. The heatings on in the stairwell and unbelievably hot. Room small but servicable, TV works, air con works. Shower room small but servicable. Bed clean, fresh and comfortable, towels and service items perfectly presented, housekeeping good. We did not have the continental breakfast as we were in a hurry to hit the town so cannot comment. All in all for the money and location, it was a very good experience, thank you Late Rooms, keep it up!
