Not as good as expected

This hotel was not as plush as their description implies - my room on the 4th floor was compact and ordinary. Lift was not working on arrival which seems to be a common occurrence, but help was offered with luggage. Staff were all friendly and the buffet breakfast was of good quality. The free wi-fi and complementary breakfast are good features but even taking these in to account, I felt the room was overpriced even for Kensington and I was expecting more for the price.

Weekend Stay

I booked the Hotel because it's near to the Royal Albert Hall and about a ten minute walk to the venue. The Bedroom was very clean and the Hotel Staff were pleasant and also helped me get a taxi on the Sunday. I thought the value for money was expensive as it was a small room in need of some modernisation and mainly in the bathroom. I did have a cooked breakfast on the Sunday.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and very close to Royal Albert Hall which is why we booked it. Building work is going on opposite hotel but did not cause any concern as we were out in the evening and shopping in Kensington High Street just around the corner in the day.

Hot, Noisy, tiny and expensive

On the fourth floor, radiator wouldn't switch off so I was being slowly boiled. In order to remedy the situation I opened the window so along with the not so fresh London air a lot of loud noise from the building site opposite entered my room. My window Curtain was torn and I had to do a heath robinson botch job with one of my daughters hair clips that I found lurking at the bottom of my handbag! It was really not the experience i wanted the night before an exam. If you do stay here I would advise ear plugs and a blackout eye mask if sleep is to be on the agenda in any way, shape or form. I would have gladly given the hotel my feedback but there was no interest/ enquiry when I came to hand my room keys in so I left feeling pretty swindled by the whole experience.

Definitely stay here again

Room was admittedly on the small side, but I did have a balcony which was a treat.. Hotel could probably do with a lick of paint too. But apart from that, the hotel scored highly for me. 1) Very friendly staff. 2) Fantastic location 3) For the location, a great price.

Small friendly hotel in central area

What I am looking for in a hotel as a tired business traveler is friendly staff, a clean room, a good bed and a good sleep. This hotel scored well on all of these so I would say I was satisfied. Bonus points are added for being in a convenient area with places to eat, and again this hotel scored well with a good selection of restaurants close by. Where the hotel didn't score well on were: Compact room, (but not ridiculously so), window blind that didn't quite close properly and a shower fitting in the bathroom under the window overhang which made it impossible to stand up while showering. The lift was the smallest I have ever seen, (two people only could just squeeze into it), and if you suffer from claustrophobia this is worth avoiding. Beware, there is a huge building site across the road and if your room faced that way and you intend to stay in your room during the day, then you could well be disturbed. My room did not face that way and the time I arrived and left in the morning meant that this was not an issue so I cannot say how much a disturbance it might be.

A little gem

This was our second visit to this hotel. On both occasions we stayed there to attend an event at the Royal Albert Hall, a 5 minute walk away. The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. We asked for non feather pillows as I am asthmatic. They arrived in seconds! The room, on the ground floor was small but very comfortable with all mod cons. Continental breakfast had a good selection of cereals, fruit, ham, cheese and pastries. There was also a selection of cooked food available at extra cost. The hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants of Kensington High Street with buses and underground station nearby too.

We used this hotel a couple of years back as a base for central London, and we were impressed with how modern and clean it was, hence we have used it again this time because it is only a few minutes walk from the Royal Albert Hall.

Lovely decor - small room

Our hotel room was basement level, which came a slight surprise. There were really lovely touches within the room - bottled water, fresh flowers, magazines. The room decor was lovely and refreshing and tasteful. That said, the room was very small! There was very little space between the end of the bed and the wall - just enough room to walk through. The window overlooked a dirty stone staircase which if cleaned, and maybe decorated with potted shrubs, would have been much better presented. There were no available tables for us at breakfast which wasn't too much of a problem, we only had a 10 minute wait. However I had to ask for a table cleaning service to remove the previous occupants breakfast, which was poorly executed and I had to remove left over, half eaten jars of preserve myself. The breakfast itself was fresh and varied, and very nice indeed. The reception staff were delightful and very helpful. The location was perfect for visiting the RAH. I would use this hotel again only if I was going to RAH or Imperial College.

Short break for BBC Proms

The staff were consistently helpful and friendly. The single room was well designed - a real home from home. There was no air conditioning but the ceiling fan kept the room comfortable. The lift was out of order throughout our stay. This could be a problem for some guests but the staff were very willing to carry luggage up and down stairs. Similarly the main entrance is up a steep flight of steps. That was no problem for us and we didn't ask whether there is another entrance with disabled access. Near Royal Albert Hall and Kensington High Street

Tired Hotel

You can say The Kensington was a bit unlucky during our brief stay. We arrived Friday midday, to be told we were in a room on the 4th floor and, "we are sorry but the lift is out of order". Oh . Room was small but Ok, until we went to the loo. Not flushing. We asked to change rooms and were quickly and politely moved to a room with a flushing loo. Opened the window to be greeted by the sound of noisy building work over the road. "yes, sorry, they finish at 5.00, but the don't work Sat or Sun. They did work Sat. So not the best of experiences. It is though ( usually ) a quiet area and very well located for the Albert Hall, which is what we wanted.
( they did work Sat). for £ 150 pounds a night it didn't really thrill me.

Make sure you ask for a renovated room

I was extremely dissappointed with this hotel The Johanssen group are normally excellent but in this case they were very poor. I was given an unrenovated room which was very low quality. The upholsery was stained and dirty as was the floor. The furnishings were of low quality and not what I expected from a Johannsen group hotel. I am sure the newly decorated rooms are fine but do be sure to ask for one.
The general areas of the hotel were also pretty shabby, the stair carpet was worn and the recption area was extremely untidy and gav a feeling of a lack of efficiency.
The staff were curteous but not overly so.

Pleasant

A very stylish and pleasant hotel. The bed was so comfortable that I could have taken it home.
Staff polite, friendly and smart. Hotel located between two tube stations within walking distance. No difficulties with shower, etc. Neat, tidy and clean. (Unfortunately there were building works across the road during our stay which were noisy - but stopped on the evening). If your'e out and about though, its not noticeable).

We liked to stay at this hotel. Not many room left when we got ours, so we had one at the top floor. Nice and clean. No air condition, but it was fine anyway (cool nights outside). Nice staff even if some of them seemed to be new and foreigners. In a while they will own more of the space and serve you even better at breakfast!

Good and clean boutique hotel in the center of london

Nice rooms but quite small. I was on the 3rd floor wich offer a view on a part of hyde park. There are rooms in the basement of the building, don't know what the view is like down there.
Nice staff, polite and welcoming.
Rooms and hotel are clean!
If you can, do not have breakfast at the hotel as the quality of the food is quite poor.
Right now (29 march 2011) there is a big construction site right in front of the hotel but we didn't hear once the workers work (but I stayed there a WE).
Hope I could help.

Nice friendly hotel in great location

Had tickets for Twickenham and decided to stay over to do some touristy stuff, so a perfect location for us for a short tube journey to Richmond and then fairly central to see the sights the next day. Friendly welcome, including a complimentary drink at the bar. Nice continental breakfast, good clean room, only thing missing was a bath to soak our tired legs!

Builders across the Road!

We arrived at the Kensington Hotel to find that there was a major building project going on just across the road! The Hotel Staff were very helpful in trying to find a quiet room for us but it was an impossible task as all of the rooms we were shown were just as noisy! As we were out and about most of the time this was not a major problem as the builders worked from 8.30am to 5.00pm. We were annoyed as we had specifically requested a quiet room when booking!!!! In all other respects the Kensington was ideal for a short break and well situated for our puposes.
