Constructive comments on two day stay for my wife and I and two close friends

When booking the hotel for 2 nights fron 4th - 6th March it clearly stated on the booking form the refurbishment work was due to start from 21st March!!!!! Alas wrong therefore it spoilt our stay with work and noise going on from 8am onwards . In addition we requested a room with a shower and bath and this was also on the booking form alas no bath!!!
There were no towels in the room.
We were disappointed that when we booked the rooms in good faith that we didnt get what we asked for or what was on the printed booking form. It may seem trivial but its true and we were disappointed considering the four of us paid over £400 - 00.

Renovations

The hotel is coping well with renovations and is in a fantastic location. My one disappointment was that the TV did not work and it is ancient. Normally not an issue but this time I had an early start and wantd to watch football in peace.

Air con works - and how!

The room I was in had air con which blasted out hot air all night long. The controls on the wall seemed to be unconnected with the heating, as the off button and temperature settings did not work at all! I ended up with the window open (in November) and lying on the top of the bed all night - still too hot.
I don't recommend the place unless they fix this sort of basic problem, or you like tropical conditions

More than happy at the price

Stayed here before - it's convenient to the tube, just of Kensington High Street. Check in was quick although we noticed long quese as we went in and out so that could be pot luck. Room quite small but had good functionality, comfy bed, good shower, etc. Asked for a quiet room and although next to the lift on 2nd floor - it was quiet. There seemed to be building work going on outside but it dodn't disturb as as we were out in the day. The major advantage with this choice for us was price - £89 per night, the next nearest 4* hotel in this area jumped to £200+ and beyond, so for a 4* Hotel based on Londons prices - a bargain!

Overall the hotel is alright, but would rate it 4*, more like 3*.There is renovation work in place.

Room was small even though it was double bed. AC was not working informed reception they suggested I try again the controller, even though I told them I tried it already and not working. They recommended room change, but already unpacked so was not in a mood to change rooms. At night it got warm and had to open window. Good location 3-5min walk to High Street Ken. Hotel management is avarage. It will not be my first choice but I would visit again and will make sure the AC is working this time.

The worlds smallest Hotel Rooms...

The room we stayed in was the smallest I have ever seen - it must have been the inspiration for those japanese pod rooms because it was unbelievably tiny and claustrophobic. It was also very old and tired, as were the corridors and common areas. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment at the moment - and not a moment too soon. It was however spotlessly clean and the linens were nice, but it didnt justify the price I paid.
On another note - the hotel was very slow to release the funds on the credit card I made the reservation with. I paid with a debit card on checkout and it took a week before the funds were freed up on my credit card, despite me calling to complain. Shamefully slow, it must make a nice little earner for the hotel to get a free loan off me for a week though!

Hotel nice enough but not worth the Money

Hotel room was nice enough but Hotel lacked care with the small things like milk missing from the tea trolley in room and only two tea bags and two sachets of coffee so if you had tea or coffee at night there was none for the morning. Only one shampoo and one shower gel between two each night. Building work wasn't really a problem if you are out all day. buses on Kensington High Street were very good. Bus direct from Kings Cross [no.10] Trafalgar Square [9] Victoria [52]. Ideal if you have an over sixties bus pass which you can use on all london buses.

Bit of a mixed bag

I managed to book this hotel quite late, it was lower priced than others claiming to be of a similar standard. They said this was down to building work - this had no bearing on my stay.
Firstly this place is used for bus loads comming and going to Airports, when I tried to check in over 40 people were tring to do the same - it was chaos! Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing - took 30 mins to check in really awful. The room was tiny - trully tiny I could not see the TV it was mounted high on the wall at a strange angle (to stop you hitting your head on it I presume), room was clean. Breakfast was very busy but very good. Check out was 30 min wait - I just left as did many others - to get on the bus catch a flight . Some serious issues with this place it's simply too busy, and not enough staff. On the whole a dissapointment there are much better around - but I booked late and it served it's purpose for one night, more than one day would drive you crazy! Do it if you have to but as a last resort in my view.

Complaint

When we arrived all the staff in the hotel looked miserable and the receptionist were just hanging around. We checked in and then went to our room, to find work men in the corridors outside our rooms, and also above and around our room. I called reception to ask if there were any other rooms available due to construction work being done at the hotel and she said that the hotel was fully booked. She said that Late Rooms were aware of the construction work that was being done on the hotel, but this never appeared on their website when I made the hotel booking. If we had now about the construction work going on especially going on outside our room from 8am til 5pm, drilling and banging we certainly wouldn't have booked this hotel.
It appears that we were shoved into a little room (which is definately nothing like th photo's advertised for the hotel) because we had a good deal for a London hotel. When we checked out the next day, I over heard another guest also complaining of the construction work and that he had not been informed when he made the booking. We were also not inform when we checked in.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!

The hotel turned out to be a construction site. I couldn't believe the hotel management would allow redevelopment work to begin before 8am. It was an utter shambles. The noise was ridiculous and it was obvious no consideration had been taken for the hotel guests as their was no warnings anywhere that work would begin early. For that alone I wouldn't reccommend this hotel to anyone. You would be treated better at any budget hotel.
As for the hotel itself, the carpets in the hallways were ripped and taped together with silver electrical tape. The walls were crusty and the decor was scratched, marked and dirty. It was a mistake booking this hotel. Certainly not a value for money hotel. The room we were in was tiny, the bed was badly needing replaced and the TV available couldn't even receive the bog standard 5 free to air channels. The whole experience was a bad one. Do not pay the money to stay at this rip off hotel.

Don't recommend this hotel/no locks on the doors and tiny room with tiny bed

For a woman staying alone I would prefer to be positioned in the middle of the corridoor close to the lifts. instead i was positioned right at the end of the corriddor near the stairs (it was actually quite creepy). When I got in the room I tried to lock the door from the inside and the lock didn't work - I could only use the chain. I went to reception to say I didn't feel paricularily safe as the lock wasn't working and I was fobbed off - the lady at reception just said 'all the rooms have their locks disabled so we can access the rooms if we need to'. I thought this was strage and asked if they could move me to another room that wasn't so isolated and she just said there was nothing she could do. There's nothing worse than feeling unsafe in a hotel room - believe me. To top it off the room was tiny, the bed was also tiny (and I am not a big person) and I could only get 4 channels on TV (not sure why channel 5 wasn't working). The breakfast wasn;t much better - when i arrived at the breakfast room a lady greeted me and asked for my room number i gave her my number and she said 'sorry the list I have says you haven't paid for breakfast'. I said I have and had to show her my reciept - SLOPPY/BAD MANAGEMENT!

An ideally situated hotel, situated in close proximity to Royal Albert Hall - the reason for choosing this hotel for our stay. Currently undergoing renovation, this can perhaps excuse the state of some parts of the hotel. However, the room was extremely small (Standard Double) and clearly needed updating and a good tidy up. Basic cleaning was ok, but carpets very worn and the bed was on the verge of collapse! Clearly the renovations are needed. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast was a nice buffet style serving good food - albeit on tables surrounding the sports bar - again due to refurbishments. The hotel in general is nice and will be even better once renovated. The only criticism is the state of the rooms themselves - at present. Ok for a one night stay, would only stay again if renovation proved money well spent.

Too expensive for what it is

Clearly a massive dispointment - where does the 4 stars coming from? The hotel is in a quite poor state - it is easy to figure out that the maintenance costs are at below the minimum required - the rooms are far too small, in poor condition, and the bathrooms are probably the worst I have ever seen for quite some time!! I would never recommend that hotel to any of my friends. An experience to quickly forget.

Despite the excellent foyer and ongoing renovations I thought the overall quality of the hotel/spa facilities/bar area/my room (especially) were of very poor quality for a hotel claiming to be a 4star. I wouldn't give it 2 stars at the moment. What a dump. The door in the bathroom was stuck open, the carpets didn't look lke they'd been cleaned for months, the mattress was dirty/stained, and the bed was really uncomfortable. There are a lot of really decent 3star hotels in London that this hotel should aspire to matching in terms of quality let alone claiming to be of a higher standard. You should consider shutting the hotel until all renovations have been finished - especially if they are going to be of the quality of the foyer - before your reputation is terminally damaged.
