Anniversary weekend stay

Me`and my girlfriend celebrated being together a year by going to the theatre and staying a night in a 5* hotel..
Found a very good deal on late rooms the night before we stayed. Location was perfect because my girlfriend works round the corner in knightsbridge. It gave her enough time to get ready before going to the theatre. Room was luxurious. Very clean, huge bed (very comfortable), lovely bathroom with great shower. Was given a complimentary bottle of win which was a nice touch. Woke up the next morning with a slight hangover, and the breakfast i had made me feel like a new man. Really good quality food. Highly recommended hotel!

Fixtures and fittings are of a high quality but customer service tries to be friendly but comes over as a bit clinical. Excellent location for Kensington/Hyde Park and easy walking distance to tube/bus,
Booked 2 doubles and 1 twin but ended up with three doubles which they could not resolve as the hotel was full.
Rooms were unacceptably warm and air con was ineffective.
5% discretionary charge added onto bill - we refused it but returned home and found another £5 charged to our card.
Have stayed here numerous times but won't be back as the hotel no longer seems to try hard to make the stay enjoyable.

Could have been better...

We arrived at the hotel at 3.30 pm and although our room was ready for us, we were told there was no bath - shower only. The staff were accommodating and offered to move us to another room so we left our luggage whilst we went off shopping. Upon returning we were shown to our room which was nicely decorated but a little on the small side. The bathroom was good though so not all bad. Everything was of a good standard and was very clean. Our biggest complaint was that all we could hear all night was the lift going up and down and a woman's recorded voice saying "doors closing/doors opening." It kept us awake and drove us crazy!!!!!!!! If you decide to stay at this hotel please make sure you state that you don't want to be anywhere near the lift! I'd say the best thing about this hotel was probably the location - it is walking distance to everything.

The only possible negative comment for this fabulous hotel is the optional service charge added to the bill on departure. This is a deplorable tactic as it is embarrassing to ask for it to be removed and do the staff really get it? I always tip cash and it should be optional rather than expected.
