Review for Thursday 10 May 2012

I was disappointed with the accommodation - particularly the reception area and stairwell - it was very grubby with dirty walls - not a very welcoming proposition. It was also on the top floor and very strenuous with luggage.
The advertisement advised everything provided for the business traveller and yet there was not teatowel; tea or coffee facilities which is a tad mean and not convenient for a 1 night stay.
I would not stay here again.

Not a superior double

This apartment style hotel is looking very tired indeed.Broken toilet rollholder and missing controls from shower a broken glass vase on the table.Very small room where could only enter double bed from one side and only one chair for table(how can this be classed as a double room!)
No air conditioning;tv wall mounting bracket broken - ikea style budget fitments generally. Not worth £40 per night .

For london the price was quite good & location excellent. The bed was not very comfortable which is a shame. We could not get the tv to work either. Staff did come to help with this but they only succeeded in getting us a french channel. We gave up after that. The room was also v hot so would not fancy staying there in the height of summer

Basic but not spacious

The room was about 8' by 10' which had a kitchen area, small dining area and a lounge area. A flat screen tv which also had a freeview box but we could only access a few channels, about 7 or 8. There was a bedroom with double bed pushed hard against one wall with about 18 inches of space on the other side. Everytime someone moved upstairs you could hear them. On the 2nd day we could hear the vaccuum cleaner being pushed across the floor. Definately no soundproofing. The shower barely worked and the apartment was freezing cold even though there were 2 radiators they did not work. Instead there was an oil filled portable heater. This was a superior apartment. I'd hate to see what the standard room was like!!

They have better rooms....

I had stayed with Hyde Park Suites before.
Hyde Park Suites have a number of properties in the area
Last time, I got a lovely suite in a building on Craven Hill Road, but the hot water in my shower only lasted for 1 minute!....and after 3 days, they still hadn't sorted it, which was disappointing, but not tragic.
This time, the room I had was in 77 Inverness Terrace. Not as nice at all (though my room may have been cheaper this time.....still I expected better). My room was in the basement/lower ground level, which was musty and dank. the fixtures and fittings and facilities were basic, but ok. The shower was good this time, which was a comfort.
I'd recommend Hyde Park Suites, but def ask for a quality room....and not room on lower ground floor of number 77!

Room number 3.

I can only speak for the one room I stayed in. And hey, maybe the rest of them were beautiful. Room number 3 is a no no. On the positives it was a roof over my head in a fairly central location. On the downside; - the room's location was such that meant there was incredible noise from passer bys outside - possibly some kind of courtyard? The electrics in the room were shot. You'd have to turn the light off at the door and blindly try to retrace your footsteps. Finally (there are plenty of others but as I'm reviewing on my phone I might leave it at 3) you had two room temperatures - hot or cold. All in all a terrible experience. Even for a cheapish night at £102.

We had two rooms, which were as we expected for the price we paid! Ordered a room for three men, and got a small double bed and a hopeless fold out sofa! Luckily one of our group called off at the last minute, so we dodged having to share the bed! Beware when booking to specify your needs in detail!
Very frustrating experience with the cardkey lock on one room! (Unable to unlock door). After two days and five trips to the reception, maintenance finally managed to change the battery!!!
Conclusion: Ok room for a couple, or three persons who are willing to share a bed and sleep on the fold out. If all had worked or been repaired as one would hope for, overall I think I would have got value for money.

Good clean rooms but bad soundproofing

Stayed two night (Thursday and Friday). The check-in desk is located at a separate location, just a short walk down the road. We were allocated building No.34 in Room No.14 situated on the 2nd floor of the building. There were no elevators and there only way to get to the room was four flights of stairs. It was quite inconvenient if you're travelling with young children with push-chairs or if you have luggage suitcases. The room was clean and pleasant with a view overlooking Inverness Terrace. It was well equipped and cooker, oven, microwave, sink and everything you need to make a meal.
But, the soundproofing (if there was any) was terrible. We could hear the noisy neighbours chatting their way through at about 4am to 5am which were annoying. We must have lost a good two hours sleep because of that. I am not sure about the other rooms as I am merely speaking from my experience from Room No.14. of Building No.34.
Would I book to stay again? Maybe yes maybe no. If it was not for the bad soundproofing or the noisy neighbours or tenants, this comes highly recommended.

I travelled up with my daughter for her examination the following day. Staff were helpful on arrival and accomodation was ideal. We were situated at the back of the aparthotel which was quiet and we weren't disturbed which helped while she was revising. Able to make coffee sandwiches etc when needed. Do rember to take your shampoo etc as this is not supplied and also any groceries you may need.

Well placed self-catering appartment

I was not sure what to expect from the accomodation but I was pleasantly surprised. The appartments are all fairly close together (within 200m of the reception) and are generally well maintained although our room did have a cracked window. The furnishings were clean and while the rooms are quite small, they have what you need for a short stay. A couple of other problems did arise - despite asking housekeeping, our room did not have plugs for the sinks and on one occasion the fire alarm went off though it was not immediately obvious that it was the alarm!

Compact and convenient accommodation

We stayed in a room rather than an apartment. It was very compact - and with a pretty dreary outlook - but clean and well equipped. Being able to cook and prepare food rather than eat out throughout our stay was a real boon. There are supermarkets (Tesco and Sainsbury) either side of the Bayswater Underground station just a five-minute walk away. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. We were able to leave our cases in the luggage store on the day of departure and enjoy an extra day in London before heading home in the evening.

Fantastic location

I booked this for myself, husband and my friend for 1 night as we were attending a concert in Hyde Park. I'd previously stayed in the Sussex Gardens/ Paddington area in my teenage years and even then felt it was a bit grotty, so looked for an alternative that wouldn't be as far as Kensington where we stayed last time.
The location couldn't have been better, close walking distance to the venue, not rough in any way and lots of amenities near the flat, including delicious Lebanese restaurants that were licensed & opened late enough for us to be able to share a bottle of wine and some meze after the gig.
The only slight issue was that the booking never specified that it was for a studio flat. When I asked reception if we could swap with a flat with a separate bedroom I was informed that the only one available was in the basement and would cost £50 extra which wasn't really worth it.
Not too much of a problem for 1 night also thankfully my friend is very laid back & didn't mind sharing the room with me and my hubby.
The building was fantastic, marble staircases and the lot. Safe and quiet. There's a cheaper B&B type place called Hyde Park Inn down the road which seemed to be quite lively with backpackers & a very late bar but thankfully it was far enough for us not to hear them at all.
Would definitely stay again & recommend this to a friend.

An Attic without a View

Not roomed in the main building but in an annexe building that was still under renovation; smelling of paint and had to step over light fittings! Apartment on 4th Floor and no lift! No way to secure vaulables and only 2 pillows on double bed. Bathroom tiny and you could not sit on the toilet without having head in sink. WiFi did not work and the laminate flooring was not attached to the floor properly. And finally the room (could not be called a studio apartment as you slept next to the oven & fridge) was in the old servants quarters in the attic - opening the window was the only air-con and a great view of the attic across the street as the mroning sun streamed in through inadequate blinds. I stay a lot in London but not here again!

Clean, spacious, well equipped and good location

I have stayed at these suites on a number of occassions. They are spaced out across several buildings in the same road and you collect the keys from a central reception. The staff at the reception are efficient and I have always found them to be friendly and helpful. The suites vary in size, layout, and equipment, but I have found them all to be clean. It is a bit like staying in someones flat! I certainly feel that these suites represent great value for money and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Festival Shower

Unfortunately our stay was not the best at Hyde Park Suites. After climbing several flights of narrow stairs we finally reached our apartment. When we entered at first glance it seemed quite reasonable for the price we paid bearing in mind it was in central London. We were overpowered by the smell of a plug in air freshner which soon became apparent why it was there. When we entered the bathroom there was a very unpleasant smell that seeps up from the drains. Oh well we thought, we were only staying the night and with the door shut it wasnt a major problem. The hardest part came when trying to have a shower. The cublicle was small and trying to get a suitable temperature proved very demanding. It was either boiling hot or freezing cold and when you did think you had a suitable temp it could change either way in an instance. I could have had a better show at Glastonbury Festival. The sink tap had no pressure but was bearable and finally there were only two pillows on the double bed that can only be described as pancakes. We successfully negotiated a refund and the receptionist was very polite, apologetic and helpful. The room apart from the bathroom is satisfactory and well off the self classified 4 star rating. On a plus it was a very good location and the Bayswater area was very good with lots of amenities.

Reception Not So Knowledgeable

Reception was unable to advise how to turn on the Towel Rail heater in the bathroom. Warm towel gives warmth and comfort immediately after shower to those not use to cold country. It also helps to dry undergarments washed by hand. Also the washed white colour undergarments were stained when wooden hangers in the wardrobe were used. Plastic hangers should be provided.

Good location but very small accomodation

Stayed at House 30 unit 10. We booked a superior double, anticipating some space to place a sofa bed for two young children (below 10 yrs old). When we arrived, the receptionist refused to check us in as she insisted that the apartment was meant for only two. She also refused to cancel our booking citing that laterooms.com has already taken commission and it was our fault to have booked it. After some negotiation, the only available option was to upgrade to a bigger unit at full rate (i.e. no discount), we paid 130 pounds per night instead of 91 pounds per night. Thinking that the apartment would be big enough, it was quite a surprise when we arrived. It was a small double story, bed room at the upper level (no window thus ventilation was challenging) and an integrated kitchen and sofa area at the lower level. There was only one window near the staircase. It was not possible to open a suitcase and the sofa bed at the same time at the lower level. So every night, we played "traffic jam" with the sofa bed and the suitcase.
The location was good, served by two tube stations within walking distance and food aplenty.
Considering the cost of tube travel for a family of four (children travel free) using the Oyster Card and the time taken, I reckon we would have done better staying at the Holiday Inn. Perhaps we were pampered by Holiday Inn and Best Western while travelling around the UK, and like some said, this is London.

We were given a basement room and I had the feeling it was because we had a cheaper rate booking through "late rooms". It was raining when we arrived and water started running down the bedroom wall about half hour later! The toilet cistern was leaking all over the floor and the shower head did not fit the holder. The bed was nailed together with two planks of wood - so you can imagine how comfortable that was! It was a real disappointment and could easily have been so much better. Great location.

Not what it says on the tin!!

We booked into the Hyde Park Suites as the room pictures on the site looked modern and clean, and at £80 per night seemed a good price. Our room was in one of their many buildings on the ground floor. I have stayed in Howard Johnson apartments before and was expecting a similar type apartment, I was very mistaken. I assumed that there would be a seperate bedroom, living room/kitchen and bathroom. However the room we stayed in was just a glorified bedsit with the living room, kitchen and bedroom squashed into one small space. The view from our room window was of a small courtyard where the bins were stored. Above us was obviously some kind of cleaners kitchen as the sound of crockery clanking and loud voices was all we could hear for most of the day. The room also had two skylights which were not very private at all. The location was great and the room was clean but we were very disappointed with the size of the 'apartment'. The front door banged very loudly which disturbed us in the night and the place was covered in 'burglars at work in the area' stickers which hardly made for a restful nights sleep, we were also extremely reluctant to leave articles in the room during the day. The room only had two working spotlights and the air conditioning system did not work, the room was really hot and uncomfortable. All in all, great location but I will not be staying at these 'apartments' again in a hurry.
