From the minute we arrived we were greeted straight away and from then on the staff were all brilliant. It is so unusual to get that in the big city hotels but they are doing something right with their training of all their staff. It was my special birthday weekend and our 30th wedding anniversary and would highly reccommend this hotel. We got a good deal through late rooms and if we can get that kind of deal again we will always use this hotel.

When we first arrived we were given the wrong key to our room, so after being sent up to the sixth floor we found the key did'nt work after much trying. Back down sixth floors again and discovered that the receptionist had given us the keys to room 623 not 632, an easy mistake I suppose. On eventually gaining entry to the right room we discovered that the room was fantastic, very clean and spacious with great views over Russell park and the rest of London. After that first mix up the staff were very helpful and efficient especially the concierge. Breakfast was buffet style with much to choose from and was excellent value. The hotel is very convenient for the underground and the Piccadilly line, and you can be in Covent Garden in ten minutes. The evening bar was cozy, but some settees need renewing with some of the leather very worn and ripped. Victorian interior design at its best with a fantastic marble entrance hall and staircase - I would recommend this hotel and will certainly stop there again.

I usually stay at Hotel Russell when i am in London. Two main reason; firstly the location is excellent, close to Euston & Kings Cross mainline stations and with Russell Square tube right on the doorstep. Plus there are plenty of shops right next door (including a 24/7 Tesco), so you can always get what you need. Lots of good restaurants and cafes nearby too and it is only a 5 minute walk to Covent Garden/West End.Secondly, the hotel itself is always clean and friendly and the service is very efficent. It's a great base for exploring London.

Lovely and stylish hotel. I stayed in a room on the top 7th floor overlooking Russel square and the London eye. The room had fantastic modern design, fresh colours and excellent use of space. It made my business trip so much more productive. The hotel lobby and the restaurant are well kept and clean, the magnificent feautures of its internal design been even more appreciated. A combination between the best of the old and the modern in British hospitality

The original room we were offered was small and cramped. By paying an extra supplement we moved into a more convenient, spacious room. The over-riding impression was of faded Victoriana. Queuing for breakfast, a hopeless concierge who could not operate his computer did not inspire. I felt that almost all aspects of the operation of the hotel were governed by a shortage of money. Breakfast was adequate in terms of quantity but lacked real quality.

Hotel Russell was ideally situated in the centre of London. I stayed with my four year old daughter and Russell Square gardens opposite was a real bonus for her as she could have a proper play in the sun. The staff were lovely and it was great to go sightseeing without having to get the tube once. Our room was tiny and very very noisy but what do you expect from the centre of London? I don't think two adults could have stayed there comfortably, it was so small. It could also have done with a good clean. Having said that, the hotel itself was full of original character, a delightfully quirky place with a real sense of history. It was good value for money and the staff were all lovely to us both. I know a short break to central London might not attract families with young children but we were made most welcome at the Hotel Russell. Highly recommended, we had a great stay

Staff were courteous, if slightly stretched at the very busy Sunday breakfast which was the only time we felt slightly that we were being processed rather than cared for. We were treating ourselves, so took a superior room, which was comfortable and - for central London - big. I would pay the extra money again. This hotel offers little more than a good location. During my stay, I upgraded to what 'hotel Russel' regards as an 'executive' room; this was dismal and made me cringe as to what a 'standard' room would constitute of. The room was small, the shower in the bathroom was mouldy, the actual toilet was not only situated less than a metre away from the pillows on my bed but the entire thing was designed without a lock. The 'entertaiment' services refused to work during my whole stay. I was made to endure hours of music up untill one 'o' clock in the morning. Rather than relocating my guest and I to another room following my complaint, they simply apologized and stated that it would eventually stop. Having spent around £400 on my stay across two nights, I was incredibly disappointed and felt taken advantage of.

Lovely friendly reception, and of course the hotel looks amazing when you arrive. I knew I had a good deal thanks to Late Rooms, but wasn't expecting quite such a small room, with a single bed, but it was ok, really. Obviously there were a few streaks and hand prints on the wallpaper, the bath plug was loose, so the bath water kept draining away and the tv didn't work at all, but one gets used to that with hotels. And why don't big hotels automatically have fridges in their rooms ever? Naturally I could have mentioned this when I checked out, but it's difficult when the reception is bustling with other people trying to leave and arrive and when the receptionists first languages are predominantly German or Russian.

The room was very small and in my opinion the quality of the hotel is not 4*. The bathroom was so small you burnt yourself on the radiator as you got out the shower! We went to see a show while we were there and when we got back to the room all we could here was the noise from the party and disco somewhere below us. This was so loud that we could sing to the songs being played and almost hear word for word what the DJ was saying and we were 5 floors up. This went on until just gone 12. Whilst we understood that it was Christmas Party season, it was extremely inconvenient as we wanted to be up early the next morning, and it demonstrated a lack of planning by the hotel by putting people who weren't involved in the party on that side of the hotel (they could have asked at chek-in about our plans for the evening). When I spoke to the desk staff the next day, they were very apologetic and offered us the opportunity to speak to the manager. We waited a long time before staff came back to us to say that the manager was busy and couldn't see us. We believe, from overhearing conversations, that he was dealing with complaints from others in the hotel about the size of the room. The person at the hotel offered us 10% off our next break, but this was not good enough, particularly as we do not intend to stay there aqain.

The door attendant was very pleasant and helpful. The bedroom (single) was perhaps the smallest room I have ever stayed in, albeit that it was adequate for an overnight. The room was no where near 4 star - shabby carpets, burnt lampshades all askew, old TV with poor reception and dark, damaged furniture which took up what little space there was and a bed which was more like a marshmallow (I dread to think how old the mattress was). The bathroom was fine if you can cope with an old shower curtain sticking to you as you try to shower. The toiletries provided were modest and of a poor quality - again, not what you'd expect of a 4 star hotel. The towels and linen appeared to be fairly new and clean. Overall, the price was far too high at £125 per night.

I was expecting something special from this traditional prestigious hotel in a prime London location. In reality I've been allocated far better accommodation on stays in premier lodges. I had booked a single room that would apparently usually be £300 but was £100 through Late Rooms. Even then I felt slightly aggrieved by the standard. I did wonder whether the more dubious rooms were perhaps saved for late reduced price bookings. My room was small and rather shabby. There were even some cobwebs in the bathroom - nice. The shower head was defective and non adjustable. Water shot out horizontally as well as vertically which made an early morning shower a messy and frustrating affair. I mentioned all this at check out and got the impression the receptionist wasn't really interested and just paid lip service to my comments. The public areas of the hotel are quite impressive but once you get beyond the downstairs I think it has pretty much had its day. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again.

Amazing looking hotel. Just a shame there always seems to be an unexpected problem. On this occasion, I had to check in late (11pm). It took almost 30 mins as the reception desk couldn't find my reservation despite me giving them the res number. I was tired and just wanted to get into a room and go to sleep. Also, even though I'd checked at reception first, there was no hot chocolate or biscuits in the room.

We had a good experience at the Russell Hotel. The location is good for seeing the sights of London and traveling on the Tube. Breakfasts are very nice. The consierge man Bernard is exceptional and was very delightful to work with. He set us up nicely for a day tour and booked us good seats for the theatre. Very helpful.

We were in London for business. This room was not good. There was no internet service, the television did not work, moldings in the room were filthy... we had water issues on Sunday morning - but we paid over $250 pounds and this was very unacceptable. The real comment I wanted to make was that the consierge Bernard was very helpful in setting us up with a day tour and theatre tickets. He is exceptional and was delightful to work with. Thank you Bernard

I have previously stayed at the Russell a few times, and had lovely rooms. This one gave all appearance of being the poor room used to provide space for the late booking services. The cord on the kettle would not reach a plug point anywhere near the tea/coffee station under the TV. Had to put it on the poky desk at the other side of the room. I'd rather stay in a Travellodge.

I ordered some room service, but one of the receptionist forgot to place the order. I had already waited an hour. I then had to replace the order, which she got wrong. Luckily, a lady from the concierge desk was extremely helpful and ensured that my order was correct and processed as quickly as possible. The glass in my bathroom was dirty upon arrival, but apart from that the room as clean. The food quality was very good, with breakfast a nice experience with extremely friendly staff. The room was what was required but I do feel it was over-priced. Although I believe that is due to the location of the hotel.

i have stayed in many hotels in london choosing to stay in 4 star or greater so have a wide experience of this class of hotel Unfortunatly i found this lacking in the thing you would expect as standard from a 4 star For example there was paper provided and a review form but no sign of a hotel logo pen the quality of furniture was poor as was the decor The television wasnt even tuned in correctly and the information channel was never updated from last customer not allowing me to see bill etc The cleanliness was very poor and my shower was not fit to be used as the shower head kept slidding down its mounting I had a light in the bedroom which flickered on and off constantly I did report both these faults but neither were sorted so i ended up having to bathe and then washing hair over bath Very 4 star i dont think I unfortunatly would not reccomend this hotel nor would i return

Unfortunately, my room faced the area housing the air conditioning system, which went off at 11.00pm but started up at 5.00am. The aircon system was very noisy, not helped by the old sash windows which allowed the noise into the room. I'd stay here again but would insist on a room unaffected by this problem. The coding of my "room only" price appeared on the bill as "bed & breakfast package" which made me think I'd been charged twice for breakfast but this was only a coding error - it may cause problems for claiming expenses though.

Requested early check in and this was accommodated without charge, room was ready when we arrived. Breakfast was superb; hotel very clean and warm, staff excellent; room well equipped with safe; good quality hairdrier, trouser press and iron. (although the hotel website does not say there is an iron and we took one with us and did not use it so could have saved some space and weight in our luggage.)There is also no telephone contact number on the hotel's website so that would have helped. Hotel located right in fornt of Russell Square Underground Station which is excellent. (Picadilly Line) Well recommended.

We went just for 1 night, and booked through late rooms. com. After much searching; we wanted close to centre, but not too noisy etc. we found hotel Russell, which offered bed, breakfast and dinner for two for £129.00. As it was a four star hotel, this seemed excellent value. On arrival we had a very warm personal welcome. The room was very clean, with a double bed as requested. The bed was very firm, so it gave a good night sleep. There was no bad, but a very good powerful shower which was fine for us. There was also an ironing board and hairdryer in the bedroom. Coffee, tea and Options were provided with a kettle and cups. Also showergel, shampoo and soap provided. It was quiet in the room apart from the airconditioning which made a humming noise, but you could switch it off if you wanted. The only drawback we found was that we could not watch movies on demand, so we just had to watch whatever was on TV. Our dinner was in the Victorian style restaurant and we received a four course dinner of excellent quality. We had the full choice of the menu and we both enjoyed it very much. During our dinner there were only about 6 tables taken, and we thought it was very quiet. However, next moring when we arrived for breakfast, there was a massive queue and we had to wait till an usher guided us to an available table. The quality of breakfast was excellent, and there was a choice of cooked breakfast, continental or cereals/fruits. Coffee and tea was served at your table, and you were given your own rack of toast. The nearest underground is Russell square, so easy to get about. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

What an elegant hotel In the public areas...
What an elegant hotel! (In the public areas) The magnificent entrance was amazing, beautiful staircases, mosaic floor and very friendly staff. Wide corridors creating a feeling of openness and grandeur usually reserved, I would imagine, for the royal classes. Ornate bronze dragons set against red marble and plush decorative carpets. Marvellous! Why then with all that pomp and circumstance was the room so disappointingly decorated? It is clear that with many hotels who have recently been refurbished to keep up with the ever accelerating 21st century (£18m apparently on this one) that they do not do enough in the right places and far too much in the wrong places. The bathroom of our room (324) was almost as large as the rest of the room and was a very high standard, why then I ask, has the rest of the room not been renovated to the same high standard?? When will hoteliers realise that the quickest and easiest way to spruce up the tired rooms is to remove the tacky, cheap prints in disgusting thin brown and gold frames (£1.99 from Argos direct) containing historical scenes of the local area (Blackfriars at dawn painted in 1860 Does anyone care?!?), sort out some better AV equipment (flat screen just looks better you can buy one for £185 from asda) and paint the walls a light, bright colour not 'orange peel fleck’ wall paper. I am not saying that you should not stay here far from it we both had a lovely time, the bed was comfortable and we felt at ease, however a truly exceptional experience is in the details and usually the details are very simple and very easy to achieve.

When I entered the hotel there were already 2 people complaining at the reception desk. It appeared as though the guy was upset that he had booked a double room only to be told that there were none left and he had to have a single. "Here we go " I thought as I was stood in the queue. I'd booked a double room myself.I was greated by a young lady behind reception, checked in and all seemed well. There is a very grand stair case as seen in the pictures but I decided to take the lift as I was on the 5th floor.Amazing, my double room had turned in to a twin. The room was very dated, the carpets didn't fit properly, there were signs of dampness on the ceiling and a strange smell lingered in the room. The room was reasonably cheap for London but I've stayed in far better for the same price.Would I stay again? No.They need to spend some money on this hotel.

I was very disaponited with my stay at the Russell hotel, when I arrived at the Hotel we upgraded to a superior room with a view. I asked if there would be a mini bar or drink facilities in the room. I was told that there is a fridge and this would included basis drinks inside. Room service was also available. When I got back to the Hotel in the evening, I went for a drink and the fridge was totally empty and there was no water available. I also requested room service and was told all they had on offer was paninis, which no one wanted. The staff were useless and the beds hadnt been changed either, there were body prints ontop of the bed and looked like someone had been laying there ! I paid a total of £150!! and I would like a refund! I was very ill in the evening and needed water and there was nothing available!!

The Hotel was not double glazed and so was very noisey during the night. I added breakfast to my room cost and was charged £20 per day, which was extortionate I felt.
