Tiny, shabby and unclean

The room was nothing like the website showed. It was a single bed in a tiny shabby room with the painting and phone hanging off the wall. The en suite smelled of damp and the tv didn't work. The rest of the hotel was carpeted in filthy stained carpet and the customer service was really not great.

Too expensive for what it was

For GBP 100 I expect more! Room tiny, TV did not work, not necessarily squeaky clean
Good service, though, and good location. WiFi was also really helpful, as always - good connection / speed.

If you want to relax in your room, this is not the hotel for you!

We arrived at the hotel and booked in with no opportunity to view the room. Had we have done, we would not have stayed. We did go down to complain but were told we had already checked in so we couldnt have a refund and the manager wasnt in till the next day (consequently the next day we were told the manager was out of the country for 3 weeks) The room was tiny and you couldnt walk around the bed. The bed itself had springs coming through and consequently i had a bad back in the morning. The room had a nice TV. Unfortunately it had only an indoor ariel which didnt pick up a signal so was useless. The room was like a sauna with no means of turning the heat down. Great in December you might think but i woke up in heat rash the next morning. And that was with sleeping with the window open. Unfortunately our room faced the main road and a metal man hole cover right outside made a hell of a racket everytime a car went over it. ( obviously I'm not blaming the hotel for that one! ) All in all it did not make for a good night. The good points were that the room was clean and the breakfast was very good.

Not what I expected

The room was clean, but extremely small. If the bed in the pictures had been in my room you wouldn't be able to open the door. Decor wasn't anything like the pics either. Room was mean't to have been around the £400 mark, I paid £79, if I had paid £400 I would have been very upset! Difficult to find my room, I was told 2nd floor, but I wasn't told there were at least 2 different stair cases and to get to my room you had to go up a certain one, or discover that the lift opened in both directions.
Also thought I had already paid through laterooms but was told on arrival I hadn't.
The room was ok for a £79 room if that is what it was advertised as....

Simple and effective

I needed a room in London for a couple of nights whilst I attended various business meetings. So my requirements were pretty straight forward - a comfortable bed, clean room, and reasonable en suite facilities. And that's what I got. I requested a twin bedded room, as there was a possibility of my teenage son joining me in London at short notice. In fact, he did join me - at a few days' notice, and at no extra cost; the room was fine for two. The bathroom was tiny, but quite acceptable. Staff on the reception desk were friendly and helpful. Job done.

Convenient location

On the plus side the hotel is very well located near Paddington and the guy on the front desk was excellent.
the rate i was quoted was seemingly reduced from £300 per night, this is absolutely not a £300 a night hotel, more like £60. The room is small, furtniture basic and the wardrobe wouldnt open as the bed is jammed up against it, that is how small the room was!

Gresham Squeeze

The reception staff were nothing less than excellent. They were able to deal with many questions and always had a smile and good sense of humour. The rooms were ok but extremely small. We had a double and single squeezed into our room....luckily my friend and I get on well 'cause there is no escape! Location is fantastic and even though we were cramped we would stay there again. Just know to get off at Paddington Station and it's an easy walk.

Booking Your Room

When making my booking I requested a double room. This somehow got communicated at The Gresham that I wanted a twin room. On arrival, I was told I had two single rooms. The staff apologised and gave us a double room. My suggestion would be to triple check your booking with a phone call to the hotel direct.

Customer Service was absolutely appauling!

On arrival at the hotel we were told they had over booked so we had to stay in two different rooms although our booking was only for two nights and we had booked in March............three months earlier. We had to leave the room at 11am the following morning and couldn't get into our new room until 2pm that afternoon. Stayed in a few hotels in London but can honestly say this is by far the worst!

Gresham Hotel rooms

Don't be fooled by the cheap offers on the internet. This hotel is nothing other than a bog standard terrace type that can be found all around the Paddington area. The rooms are small and cramped. Carpets are worn and the hotel needs a lick of paint.
No SKY TV and the TV you do have is only a cheap old fashioned portable one. The room price does not include breakfast but plenty of cafes around with reasonably priced food.
Not enough plugs in the room so if you want to watch TV and boil the kettle - forget it!

It was basic but comfortable.
There was a tv and digibox which were disconnected, I connected them myself which meant the room was better when I left than when I arrived. There were only 2 plug sockets under the TV both occupied by the appliances mentioned above. Therefore to boil the kettle (which was supplied) the other appliances had to be switched off. It also means there is nowhere to charge a mobile.
Apart from the above it was a pleasant enough experience. I would stay there again, but only for short duration.

Good location but very hot!

Hotel is in a good location only a two minute walk to Paddington tube stop and about a 10-15 minute walk to Oxford Street. Room was small but ok looked pretty clean. We stayed on the top floor though and it was very hot and sticky in the room even though there was no heating on. There was a window but it was really noisey outside. Staff were really friendly. Overall ideal for what we needed.

A cramped, quite scruffy and very noisy (traffic outside) room

Not even a chair in the room, just a single bed. Room was little wider than the bed, with no-where to put down a suitcase. Single glazed room let in continuous traffic noise, and other doors inches from my door also made a noise.By far the least comfortable - and yet quite expensive - hotel I've stayed in for several years.

Single room blues

Budget stay reasonably good for central London with reasonable standard of places to eat local. Did not eat at hotel so cannot comment on food. Room was usual top floor not brilliant room for the single occupant, bed very uncomfortable. When is the hotel industry going to start looking after folk who travel alone? When I travel with my partner I get decent double rooms for the same rate as I generally pay for single.

Gresham Feedback

The hotel is well situated; only a few minutes walk from Paddington underground. The room is advertised as a triple room but would be pushed to satisfy the criteria for a double. The en-suite shower room is tight and there is only a cupboard wardrobe with no space for any drawers. The Tea/coffee facility was on a small shelf in the corner and after the first night they didn't replenish the small packet of biscuits. The hair dryer didn't work and when we tried to phone to get a replacement, the room phone didn't work. On our way out we mentioned this and they had a replacement for us when we returned. In a room which was otherwise Spartan, there was a 40" wall mounted television - not where the priority should have been.

Initally I booked this accommodation as it was the only one I could find with a car park, which having a disabled husband is essential, only to find that they only had 3 car parks when I got there and they were all being used! I was told to go to a church, about a 5 minute walk away and park there, which wasn't exactly helpful!
The room was reasonably clean, very tiny though. Also, no sound proofing to speak of, so if you are a particularly light sleeper, probably not a good idea.
Apart from the problem with the parking, the staff were friendly and ready to help with anything. The location is fantastic, which is a real bonus, only around a 1 minute stroll from Paddington Station. I would stay again, however, not when a car park is needed and if I planned on only really being there to sleep.

You get what you pay for, but not a bad hotel, just not good either.......

One night stay, while in London for a concert, over all the hotel was like staying in a BB in Blackpool. Met on arrival all ok. Problem came at night, all bars close at 11 ish, so only the "24hr bar left" we were 2 couples having a drink and chatting around 1, the night porter said we were making to much noise and would not serve us, but we could buy and take drinks to our rooms and carry on............the trouble is that the rooms are not sound proofed... The last comment is the breakfast, at £10 per person, you get nothing, go around the corner and go to the cafe or on the High Street. Over all it is a good hotel for a one nighter and if you only need the hotel to sleep in.....
