Grange Strathmore Hotel out of 5 Customer Rating

The hotel I regard as very good. The bedroom was somewhat "tight", but adequate and with very comfortable beds. I felt that the additional cost of breakfast was extortionate, with even the continental at £18 each, and full English at £24 each. For this reason I do not feel that overall the full cost was value for money. I will only stay again on an inclusive tariff.

London Birthday trip

Looking for a value for money deal for 3 day trip to London. Needed somewhere Central for 'hectic' schedule - Meeting with friends, taking in a show, celebrating my birthday with a spot of shopping and sightseeing thrown in! Very impressed with elegance and standard of hotel, apparently once belonged to Queen Mother's family, made even better with free upgrade to spacious and quiet family room. (unusual for London) Staff were polite, courteous and informative. Lounge very comfortable and ideal for a 'Nightcap' or quiet hour for tea/coffee/ read complimentary paper. Bar prices reasonable - happy to return and would recommend to friends.

Poor service

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. The first was a pleasant experience hence my return. This visit was terrible. Previous guests had obviously smoked in the bathroom and the hairdryer had been removed for maintenance. When I complaied they offered to move me. I said I could cope with the bathroom if there was an air freshner and they could provide a hair dryer. hey said ok. But the hairdryer didn't show up and when I complained they said housekeeping was closed and the hotel was full so I couldn't change rooms. After much jumping up and down I finally got a hairdryer on my second day there. Then when I ordered room service they said I had to pay then and there with cash. I said I wanted to pay be credit card so I had to leave my hot meal to go down to reception to pay with my card. I think the problem started with the original person on reception who was trying to do too many jobs at one time didn't take an inprint of my credit card for the room service or get onto the hairdryer issue whilst housekeeping was open. I shan't stay there again which is a shame.

Great for short stays.

Having read some of the reviews I expected to get a broom cupboard (albeit a clean one) with paper thin walls and a bed made from marshmallow. What we actually got was a pleasant surprise; well cared for lobby and reception, elegant bar and dining room and friendly staff.
Our room was far from spacious but had everything I wanted; well maintained and clean, a cupboard, flat-screen TV and fresh linen on the bed and fresh towels in the bathroom.
The bathroom had a bathtub as well as shower and the usual assortment of bathroom supplies were provided gratis.
We were placed at the end of a corridor so perhaps this is why we could not complain about noisy neighbours or guests passing the room at night as mentioned by other reviewers.
The hotel is located within 5 minutes of the Gloucester Rd Underground stop and about 15 minutes on foot to the Albert Hall and Exhibition Rd. Great spot if you intend to take in the museums. Would stay there again.

Service not to my expectation. Breackfast a rip off.

The Hotel looks very fine from the outside . The location is excellent..... but the interior... service etc....does not meet up to ones expection. Breakfast was not included .... were told 20 pounds
Sterling for a cooked breakfast.... BUT the surpise VAT was added too ...so for breakfast for 2.......at 48 pounds was a total rip off..... I've had much better at a B&B.

Not Value For Money

Convenient location and close to Underground station. Staff were friendly and helpful. The double room however was a big disappointment. The decor matched the internet photos but was very small. For the price one pays for such pokey accommodation I was also unhappy to find that internet connection was not free - there are many other establishments of similar price and standing that provide this service free of charge to guests.

Good

I was Happy with the customer service, the manager upgraded our deal to include breakfast because we thought our package included breakfast at first but they said if it was booked through late rooms it didn't include breakfast. Also went with a toddler and they provided a cot for him. Overall experience was good. Would recommend.

Excellant Location....Fantastic Room size...Great Value for Money

We booked this last minute and were very impressed...only a five min work from the tube station, Our room was fab.. Had booked a twin room and i think we got a family room with a double bed and twin beds the room was massive, clean with a little wear and tear which you would expect in an old building, but overall we were impressed with what we paid and the beds were so very comfy!

Hotel near the Royal Albert Hall

The Grange Strathmore was very easy to find and near the Gloucester Road undeground station. We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who answered all our questions. The room was very clean and bright with lots of shampoo, conditioner etc in the bathroom. We were also provided with tea and coffee facilities which included a excellent Camomile and Honey herbal tea which I cannot find in the shops! The hotel was in a nice street with no noise, we would definitely stay here again

Grange Strathmore - 2 days in June 2011

The Grange Strathmore is ideally situated for attractions like the Royal Albert Hall and the Science,Natural History and V& A museums. The building itself and the rooms reflect an era of bygone opulence but still provides the traveller with all the modern conveniences we have come to expect.
Service was found to be excellent with helpful and attentive staff. Our room was spotless and well appointed with pleasant period decor and ample tea/coffee making supplies.
The restaurant tariff appears quite reasonable with the strange exception of full English breakfast which works out at £24 a head if not included in the room rate when booking. The quality of the breakfast was good but could not be considered value for money.
I would use the hotel again for it's convenience and cleanliness.

Very warm and friendly staff

Yes the room was a bit compact but as I was only going to sleep there it did not bother me, also I was a single person in a twin room. I did not have a meal as such but the cheese and biscuits and pot of tea served in the lounge were beautifully presented, and it was a calm and restful room at the end of a long day walking along busy roads.
The staff looked after my bag and coat after I had officially checked out and everyone I encountered greeted me with words of welcome and a warm smile.
I thought it was very good value for money and will definitely be staying again.

OK, For London..............

..............anywhere else and I'd say the room was too small for the price, but by comparison with some London hotels I have used in the past it was at least big enough to move around, clean, comfortable and relatively quiet. Shower room too small, hardly enogh hanging space in the tiny wardrobe for a coat and suit. Quiet location, easy access to Gloucester Rd Tube, Museums and Kensington.

Shame the door was so pathetic

Nice room, pleasant service but noise insulation was abysmal with a door that did not reduce the noise from the corridor at all - revelers returning ot the hotel at 2.00am - leaving hotel for airport at 3.00am - child crying in another room (obviusly a poor fitting door there too) from 4.00am to 6.00am when they left the hotel - then other guest started getting up grrr real pain that coudl have been eliminated simply by making the room door fit to block out light and noise

Comfortable hotel in good location - decent sized rooms.

A comfortable double room and good value for £72 but wouldn't have wanted to pay much more. Public rooms are grand but faded. Rooms a little basic but comfortable enough. Walls a little thin but quiet location so a decent night's sleep can be had. Hotel could do with a makeover but this would push the price up. Worth bearing in mind at these prices as it is good value for this part of town.

Nice hotel, tired room

The hotel itself is gorgeous - olde worlde country house in the middle of London.
The room however (003 I think) was very tired. Tiles coming off the wall in the bathroom, sink taps on the wrong way around (cold hot), no bath plug (though that was promptly replaced when we phoned room service). Enamel bath was chipped in a few places.
The bed springs were dead as a dodo. Very uncomfortable to sleep in that bed, and very noisy - every move caused it to creak and bang.
There's also a problem with air pressure somewhere - every time anyone opened or closed a door anywhere, ours banged like someone was trying to get in. This was very disconcerting!
So a very beautiful place that needs some serious work done on the rooms. I would have been very very upset if I'd paid full price!

Comfortable and quiet one night stay

Good value for money at Laterooms rate of 94 pounds for a large double bedded room in this part of London, and convenient for a night out at The Royal Albert Hall. Quiet even at the front of the hotel on a Friday night, and comfortable. Relaxing bar with character. Allthough other reviews have mentioned that parts are a bit frayed we hope that any major refurbishment is long delayed as this will inevitably result in a large hike in room rates. As other reviewers did we passed on the breakfast as it was expensive.

Period Hotel, close to tube station, friendly staff but very small room.

I was made to feel welcome by friendly staff. My stay was one night only for work purposes so I didn't get to eat in the hotel. My room was very small! Its the first time i've slept in a single bed for years, and there was no bath due to size of the room being so tiny which also made it very hot and humid emphasized by lack of air-con facilities. Size and temperature aside the room was clean and I had everything I needed for a short stay, the staff were very helpful and the hotel itself full of character and a very short walk away from the tube, shops, restaurants and some local tourist sites.
