We were required to pay the full accommodation...
We were required to pay the full accommodation fee when we arrived as well as give a credit card guarantee of 20 pounds per day for possible incidentals. This did not make us feel very welcome and left a sour taste. We had travelled in the UK for a month and had never been required to pay upfront in any other hotel.
Breakfast was not included in the tariff and was an extra 17.50 pounds per person,. We did not try it.
We had dinner at the hotel once - the food was only OK and the dining room was huge and almost empty.
The room was comfortable but extremely small, should have been a single not a double.
The internet access didn't work properly and someone had to come into the room to log on manually.
On the plus side the hotel has a comfortable TV lounge and is very conveniently situated near the Gloucester Road tube station and many shops, cafes and restaurants. It was reasonable value for money given its position.

Very pleasant reception staff and general customer service of a high standard. Comfortable sized and tidy room although did get a little hot with only one window and no air con option. 76 for a double with breakfast included as long it was from the Continental buffet to have cooked English was 6 extra each which had not been made clear at any point until I sat down to order in the morning. If you had no breakfast included it was something like 25 each which is shockingly expensive for an average hotel breakfast. I would stay again but would get room only with it much more sensible to pop out for breakfast and a morning stroll (many coffee shops, restuarants etc. by the station 4 minutes walk away.)

Friendly staff, clean comfortable room. We had a deal for free breakfast which was good as the breakfasts were very expensive. Around the corner there is a cafe/patisserie which does lovely breakfasts however as an alternative. We would certainly stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.

I was in a twin room that was very well decorated and had a nice marble bathroom. The building is really old with a few visible dents and cracks but the elaborate decor more than makes up for it.
The staff were good but not great. I was originally given a room only to go to it and discover guests still there.
Excellent location. South Kensington and Waitrose/cafes/restaurants/Gloucester Road tube 1-2mins away.
We stayed at the Grange Strathmore for three nights to be near the proms at the Royal Albert Hall. It is ideally situated for this. The room was perfectly fine - we thought the traffic noise from the Cromwell Road might prevent a good night's sleep, but it didn't. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
We thought the hotel would have benefited greatly from air conditioning - some of the common areas were much too warm - and it would have been good to have the bedroom cooler too.
The fact that the hotel breakfast was expensive didn't really matter, as there are plenty of good places to eat at both Gloucester Road and South Kensington.
On the whole, we enjoyed our stay here.

We chose this hotel because of it's close proximity to The Royal Albert Hall, we were not disappointed. The reception area was a little cramped, but the staff were excellent, very polite and efficient. On our way to our room on the second floor, the cleaners took time to smile & say hello,( which is what I like).
Although there was only two of us, we had been given a family room, this was very spacious and very appealing. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. TV worked fine, plentiful supply of tea, coffee, biscuits etc. (which is what I like).
Nice lounge area near the entrance with comfy seats, TV & bar, which was pretty popular after we got back from the concert. (which is what I like)
One drawback was the price of the breakfast (23 pp), as we had a special deal with Laterooms ( 76), breakfast was not included, (tip - try & get breakfast included in price) However, Glocester Road, tube station is only 5 mins walk and is surrounded by cafe's.
So overall, a very enjoyable night and would certainly book again. (which is what I like)

Hotel very convenient for town, but would not be suitable for someone wanting a quiet room as it right on the A4. Everyone very friendly and room clean. Did not have breakfast. Reasonable value for money at 110 quid.

I am not surprised that the 4 star has been self classified because I do not think this hotel really makes that grade. It has undoubted charm, even if looking a bit tired in places, and the location is excellent with good access to places of interest - Gloucester Rd station, on Piccadilly, Circle and District lines, is no more than 5 minutes walk.
I cannot comment on the food because we did not eat there, but understand that the full English breakfast is 21 +VAT per person. The staff, although reasonably friendly, did not seem to have a good grasp on the management of the hotel, or at least found it difficult to make sure our room was available when we expected it to be. We arrived just after 1pm, hoping that we could be accommodated early, but were told we would have to come back at 2pm (normal check in time). We arrived back quite a bit after this time only to be told we would have to wait another half an hour for the room to be cleaned. The room, when finally made available, proved to be very small in size and we would have complained if we had wished to stay more than one night - visited London to see a concert. There was no fridge and no airconditioning - apart from opening a window, upon which the outside noise become very distracting. We did get a special rate for the hotel, but at 76 per room felt even this was not very good value for money and consider the web site photos to be very misleading - perhaps we were given the smallest double room available because of the special rate applied.

Room was fine if not what was expected. Late rooms said it was a double with air con, actually it was a twin without - but given we didn't get into the room until midnight we were too tired to bother saying anything. Bar was not impressive, mainly due to inexperienced staff. Unfortunately no crisps nut or little bar snacks were available.

The hotel was a little old fashioned but the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and efficient. Only bad points were that we had a basement room with little natural light and there was no plug in the bathroom sink!
I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Royal Albert Hall as it is only a ten minute walk away.

The hairdryer in the room shot out sparks. When I asked for a new one, the lady from housekeeping told me that ALL of the hairdryers did this. Eventually she brought me another dryer which, lo and behold, did not try to kill me but she waited outside of the door until I'd finished with it because she wanted it back. Needless to say I didn't risk it for the morning shower.....

I don't normally expect too much from a central London room, but at 126 I had expected a little more room-it was tiny. The worst aspect however was the wet carpet and smell of chemicals which was overpowering. I would have reported this but we had hurriedly checked-in at 5pm to get to an event at 5.30pm, so we did not arrive back in our room until 2am which is when we noticed the problems. On reflection, the window had been wide open when we first arrived so the hotel knew there was a problem which I feel is unforgiveable.

A very disappointing experience. The Strathmore's faded glory made it feel shabby, dark and old. My room was tiny. So small that the foot of the bed was inches off the wall opposite which made negotiating round it difficult. When I pulled the chair from under the half sized desk it completely blocked the access to the shower room. The floor space in the shower room was less than 3 ft square. The decor was tired and way past its best, even some of the pictures were duplicated. The only saving grace was the view. I was fortunate to get a view of a small park (Queens Gardens) which made the room quiet from road noise.
Although I got a cheap rate it was still not worth it. As I said in my feedback sheet to the hotel "Get into the 21st Century". I will not stay at the Strathmore again!!!

Thankyou, and I want to say HOW HAPPY I was with The Grange Strathmore Hotel, as I arrived from Spain 'Completely Stressed Out', as I had my Weekend Case STOLEN ON A TRAIN FROM JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA UP TO SEVILLA AIRPORT, Can you Believe it? and therefore, I arrived in London With NOTHING, NO Make Up, NO Clothes, NO Wash things, and all my paper work Gone too, and therefore, to get to my SUPERB Bedroom with the Lovely Comfy Bed etc all there for me, was just WONDERFUL I must say, and I will Return (at the same Good Price!)
Also, your Staff were Extremly Vigilante, Kind & Polite and both the two young men went to the trouble of Helping me Re-Print Out my Boarding Ticket,((as it had been in my Weekend Case.) I also Appreciated 'The Service'of the Newspaper being left outside my Bedroom Door, as it Helped me Relax, and it was just what I needed on account of ALL The Stress I had had to endure, as I arrived at Stanstead on my return to Spain with More Stress and whereupon the Paramedics were Called, as I got a Severe Nose bleed for 1 hour and before I boarded my Flight, so I was Lucky to FINALLY get Back to my Home!
Once again, To The Staff at The Grange Strathmore, Thankyou for making my Stay Most Enjoyable! and see you another time!
Yours
Persephone Lavinia FitzGerald (The Dublin Lady)
Also The Location of your Hotel is SUPERB, as I used to Live on Gloucester Road!

I have used this hotel many times for business and the service has always been good. This was a private visit. The room was an 'executive' double but was very tiny and the decor was in need of an update. No air con meant a very uncomfortable and noisy night. The location was ideal for our visit. I think that 21.50 for a poached egg and fruit is excessive as an addition to the 130 per night rate

Hot on tartan, there is a faded elegance and rather weary, but not shabby, feel about the whole place. Lovely bed, great curtains but poor tv connection and faulty switch on the bathroom let it down. I've stayed in the really cheap rooms before and they are very small, so trade up if you can.

The room and hotel were clean and attractive. There was no plug for the bath so had to use the shower. I found the bathroom especially cramped! Hotel itself is nice and just 5 mins from Gloucester Road tube station, supermarkets etc. I think it is definitely in need of a refurb as felt dated. I also noticed that there was no air con in my room so check your room will have this if you are planning to stay when the weather is warmer.
